FNM 12/27 —Jan. 1, 2014
FNM went well for the most part even though I ended up going 3-2 and placed 6th out of 17.
Match 1-Naya? It was very difficult to tell what kind of deck my opponent was running, but it was fairly easy to outrace and beat. 2-0
Match 2-MRD. This match worried me a bit because this was one of the deck lists I knew could be troublesome to play against. However, while my opponent was able to do a lot of damage in the early game, I was always able to stabilize and defend until one of my big baddies came out. He was able to beat me once when he Act of Treason'd my Worldspine Wurm. 2-1
Match 3-Mirror Match. Opponent ran a little bit more of a Gruul devotion, but in the end my deck just ran better and more efficiently. 2-0
Match 4-Boros Burn. Gosh this deck was fast. Between Ash Zealots, Boros Charms, and Spark Troopers, I just couldn't seem to keep up. I barely won one game by getting a Worldspine Wurm and 27/27 Mistcutter Hydra. 1-2
Match 5-MBD. Probably the deck I was most worried about going against. Lifebane Zombie and Thoughtseize kept anything good I drew out of my hand and I was never really able to get a threat on my field while he built up with Pack Rats and Nightveil Specters until he finally Gray Merchant of Asphodeled. I didn't really stand a chance, which is sad because I was in 2nd place until this match. 0-2
Hopefully I'll be able to fix this deck and take it back out sometime soon.

I would run 4 of the shrines if you can get them. Use the legendary rule to your advantage

Hey i've seen your deck float around for awhile now. T2 Wurm FTW!
i've been playing alot of FNM's with a few different decks. In the periphery i have always been dabbling in Gruul. A couple weeks back i split some Gruul ideas into a more focused Green Devotion deck. The foundation of the deck was an understanding of the meta, or in other words i started my card selection based on popular decks being played and the ability to combat well.
Anyways i took the deck and battled to a 2-0-1 record at my LCS (local card shop) in the first evening tourny. i gotta say it was hard fought victories, but it was certainly fun to play. Take a peek, and hopefully there are ideas that can help in your preparation for your upcoming FNM.

At most I will probably run 2, because I find that 80% of the time that I end using Karametra's Acolyte . For the big mana production as she can be pulled out with Garruk, Caller of Beasts and other current methods of deck pulling.

Sylvan Primordial definitely has a place here. I run two. It's more protection from flyers, a definite draw for your shock lands, and non-creature removal. I usually go for the lands. Especially if i get it out super early. We play a lot of multiplayer games in my group and he's very helpful in these type of situations. Highly recommend!

pasngr46n2-I could do Sylvan Primordial in the sideboard as I have no Mistcutter Hydra s right now and it will probably be easier to get 2 rather than 4. I just don't think Primordial has room in the mainboard.

I pulled 1x Karametra's Acolyte and 1x Voyaging Satyr and run 3x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . One of the guys i was playing against actually slammed his cards down and begrudgingly chuckled, "Man, that's a fast deck". After two free-for-all's i was target number one. It was a mana dork massacre but all i could do was laugh. I also don't have any Primeval Bounty right now either so i had a few slots for them. I kinda want to get a few Alpha Authority 's in there to. They make Worldspine meaner and any other beasty that may have trample thanks to Nylea, God of the Hunt .
