@MrHink I tried Quicksilver Amulet at some point, but it was way too slow for modern and too easy to remove.
@Hipoisthabest Thalia, Guardian of Thraben is actually bad for this gameplan because its not a creature deck, you need at least 25+ creatures to work with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. Thalia, Heretic Cathar would be an awesome card if she didnt die to Lightning Bolt. She slows all kind aggro decks. Maybe Authority of the Consuls would be the better pick here to slow aggro.
@Pill0w I think Godsend is just an ok card, i put it in this deck because it is my favorite Magic card, in most cases Godsend is just too slow (it's a 6 drop). If you want to go more competitive, you can swap it out for something else like a 1of Mana Tithe
@Demonic Executer I discussed with a couple of modern players over Shalai, Voice of Plenty and Lyra Dawnbringer. For this deck, Shalai, Voice of Plenty functions are already provided by Leyline of Sanctity and the fact that Angels mostly won't die to typical modern removal like Lightning Bolt, Fatal Push. For Path to Exile protection, i think she is not worth it (I need to playtest it more to bring a better conclusion). Lyra Dawnbringer is a solid drop that i will probably replace Avacyn, Angel of Hope with.
I'm still playtesting some changes atm, especially with low curve removal and devotion ramp against the modern meta. I will update the page soon :)

Cards that i'm testing atm:
- 1x Lyra Dawnbringer (Lifegain support vs aggro)
- 1x Shalai, Voice of Plenty (Creature Hexproof viability)
- 1x Field of Ruin (Not falling behind mana wise vs. Not be able to destroy my own lands)
- 2x-4x Flagstones of Trokair (How many depends on how many Landdestruction or Bloodmoon Decks are played)
- 4x Sorcerous Spyglass (Sideboard against mostly Tron and other Planeswalker decks )
- 4x Declaration in Stone (Sideboard against token decks)
- 2x-4x Soul Tithe (Really depends if the replacement for Banishing Light is worth it)
- 4x Settle the Wreckage (Sideboard against all aggro creature decks that won't profit from lands anyway)

Awesome, thank you for the update and I can't wait to hear more about Lyra Dawnbringer :)
I was only curious because Leyline of Sanctity was a little costly so I was wondering if Shalai, Voice of Plenty would be a good substitute for it. Also, one last question, I know it destroy's all non-land and non-legendary permanents but how would something like Urza's Ruinous Blast or Blackblade Reforged far in this deck? It seems like a lot of "legendary" type cards came out in Dominaria.

First of all, thank you for this very fun deck. But I was wondering, why not integrate Stasis Snare instead of Banishing Light/Oblivion Ring? This would partly counter Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, in addition to doing more devotion and for the same cost in mana. Likewise, I do not understand why put Terminus in place of Wrath of God.
I also have the impression that the deck lacks draw card, and Tower of Fortunes remains expensive to use. Arcane Encyclopedia might be a good choice, even The Immortal Sun might be interesting, right?
And finally, what do you think of Resplendent Angel that works with Lyra Dawnbringer?
July 8, 2018 6:40 p.m.
@skullz7
Stasis Snare is instant speed creature only removal. Nearly all other spells are sorcery speed. This means, letting mana open to cast Stasis Snare is too predictable. You can include it if you have a Emrakul heavy playing field. The meta is more planeswalker heavy at the moment, i suggest using Banishing LightOblivion RingQuarantine Field
Tower of Fortunes is in the maybeboard. Everything thats in the maybeboard was considered to be used in the deck but didnt make it. In white-devotion you cannot use artifact carddraw because its counter productive to your devotion plan. white carddraw nearly doesnt exist. The only example i know is Master of the Unseen which could work well but is slow as hell.
Resplendent Angel requires a lot more Lifegain than just Lyra to be worth in my optinion. Using Angels as finishers is more a flavor thing than going competitive. A better finisher would be Entreat the Angels anyway

Why Akroma, Angel of Wrath over Avacyn, Angel of Hope? Avacyn is also good against red/black since those colors don’t really Exile. Plus Avacyn protects everything including all of your enchantments which I feel are a pretty big part of your deck. Both can be countered, both can be exiled, so what advantage does Akroma have over Avacyn with the red/black protection it provides besides being a better attacker?

@ belugawhaleonthefloor
Destruction most of the time never happens, so i barely needed Avacyn, Angel of Hope and she is the worse attacker even if she is larger. Akroma, Angel of Wrath is really nice against controllier matchups, because you can attack every turn as soon as she hits the table with full evasion. No chump-blockers like Thoptermeek. You can keep Akroma and Avacyn for swapping out Lyra. Keep in mind the curve goes really high even for devotion.

Yeah I said Akroma was the better attacker but that’s all she really offers. I think protecting your lands and enchantments with Avacyn is worth it though, as most angels are good attackers on their own so you won’t really be short offensively

@ belugawhaleonthefloor originally the deck was built around Iona, Shield of Emeria, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, Avacyn, Angel of Hope but i cut Avacyn because she doesnt follow a control / control-finisher plan. Yes you can play Avacyn but keep in mind the meta this year is Path-Snap-Path

Cheers man!

@ Fabianoph i'm trying some stupid thing atm. Its no ready yet. My time for magic shrinked in the last few months, so it could go a while to update the description.

3 Mana Slot: Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Boros Reckoner, Opal Guardian, Descendant of Kiyomaro, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Mangara of Corondor
Others: A second Cavern of Souls for a Human/Angels only deck

Hey Drcfan!
Thanks for the awesome deck, have been a lurker for more than a year, and I have to say all my past year fun in Magic came from the inspiration your deck gave me. I'm particularly a fan of the Weathered Wayfarer and Thalia's Lancers
I have uploaded my own version of it here: Modern midrange angels, if you wanna have a look at it, of course taking care of citing your deck! It is a bit more midrange-y, having more creatures and less enchants, my local meta being quite aggro/midrange.
Anyway, thanks again for the awesome post

Have you thought about using the Arch of Orazca ? It was interesting in my testings, easily reachable even as a 1-of with the wayfarers, and super easy to ascend in the games you need it
April 29, 2019 5:48 p.m.
@ Gloglok I know card advantage can be very difficult in mono white (It works with card value). For me Arch of Orazca cost too much as a card draw engine. I can recommend you following to try out:
Lifegain plan: Swap all cards below 5 mana except Weathered Wayfarer , so you can use Dawn of Hope . Key cards for a lifegain plan would be cards like Resplendent Angel , Archangel of Thune , Auriok Champion , Serra Ascendant
Add blue or black: Kills devotion and then the deck goes into white-blue or white-black prison control (see death and taxes) with angels as some finishers
Artifacts: not really productive to the devotion plan but Tower of Fortunes is one solid card draw engine. A while back i tested also Tamiyo's Journal but it both of them were too slow for me. (You can still try it tough)
Next update i do: (Mana base adjustments) Goes in: 4x Flagstones of Trokair + 1x Ghost Quarter Out: Field of Ruin
Next tests i do: Serra the Benevolent , requires more flying creatures to work properly. Angel of Jubilation stops enemy fetchlands, phyrexian mana, and any pay life effect but not bolt proof! , Archangel of Tithes actually perfect for this deck, swap for boardwipe Gideon Blackblade , requires even more low mana creatures like Knight of the Holy Nimbus which is actually a 3/3 indestructible for double white
May 18, 2019 4:37 a.m.
@ Gloglok
Entchantment Plan: Put enchantments at the bottom of the mana curve to support a card draw engine with Mesa Enchantress . (Works fine but gets easily killed)
May 18, 2019 4:54 a.m.
I've been using Ajani's Mantra + Dawn of Hope for all of my card draw needs.

@HotdogDude You could take a look at Kor Firewalker or Aegis of the Gods for budget. There are more white cards that give you hexproof but they are mostly 5+ CMC.
