this list has done really well in testing against decks trying to 1 for 1. it can steal games out of nowhere with nocturnus, and gray merchant helps take the last points of life before control can stabilise, or stabilise you against aggro. dusk legion zealot seems bad but is great when looking for lands and setting up for a huge nocturnus turn. the curve looks bad but gatekeeper is essentially a 3 drop. some number of fetch lands are useful for another look at top card with nocturnus and can enable fatal push.

leyline over other gy hate because free devotion and it won't stop our own bloodghasts. being mono black, the deck struggles against cards like ensnaring bridge if you don't thoughtseize them or draw some timely gray merchants. playing a mainboard shock land and something like Kolaghan's Command or Abrupt Decay in the sideboard helps with this. Assassin's Trophy is my favourite option here.

in testing, Kalastria Highborn , Cordial Vampire , Captivating Vampire , Vampire Lacerator , Vampire Nighthawk , and Asylum Visitor have all been underwhelming, as have been Liliana of the Veil and Liliana, the Last Hope . Aether Vial is just bad with gatekeeper.
