Devouring Storm Engine (Standard MTG Deck)

I originally had the fairly typical Izzet artifact deck with the usual Chief Engineer , Ornithopter and Generator Servant until my friend took a look at it and turned it from an Izzet combo deck with artifacts into an Izzet mid-range deck with Stormbreath Dragon and good cards to actually be a threat. Combo decks are amazing when they work, but that just doesn't happen often enough to be viable at any FNM. Scuttling Doom Engine is just so awesome he deserves a good deck that can win consistently.

So then my other friend examined the new Izzet mid-range deck even further and thought, "you need more ways to kill Scuttling Doom Engine because what if they have creatures for days and you just need to do that six damage to the face? Let's splash black."

He is a mono-black devotion player and literally loves black magic. At first I thought he was crazy for suggesting tri-color, but then he noted how awesome it would be to Devour Flesh myself, sac my own Scuttling Doom Engine , deal six damage to the face of my opponent, and then gain six life. Then I thought that might be even more glorious than Shrapnel Blast on the Scuttling Doom Engine . I know Devour Flesh is rotating but have black removal to stall my early game until I get out my big guys and also being able to use it to kill my own Scuttling Doom Engine to deal that six direct damage in a pinch has completely made going tri-color worth it. Not to mention how awesome scrying is from all the scry lands I can run now.

There's five swamps in there for now because shock lands are rotating and there is no Dimir or Rakdos pain lands as of yet. As soon as those are released or more dual colored land comes out, I will definitely try to eliminate all basic land.
