Faeries are more popular in modern but I feel they still fare well in legacy. Faeries have been a popular archetype in magic due to their aggro/control/tempo (confused? read the spoiler) play style allowing for every game to be taken with a different approach and their toolkit has answers to many different strategies. Faeries have answer to any type of situation which makes them versatile as well as fun.

The two strongest cards in faeries has to go to Bitterblossom and Spellstutter Sprite.

• Bitterblossom lets you go wide and slowly overwhelm the board for nothing but a lifepoint a turn which allows you to use your mana to control your opponent and protect Bitterblossom or your other faeries

• Spellstutter Sprite with bitter blossom turns into a 2 mana counter anything which when paired with cavern of souls can translate very quickly too "counter target spell, this spell can't be countered"

• Deathrite Shaman was on of the main reason I splashed green instead of say white was that deathrite shaman allows for some lifegain in the from of used counters and sorceries to counteract the negative effects of Bitterblossom

What I mean by aggro/tempo/control play style Show

• Aggro: If your going against aggro you have 5 removal spells to use to deal with any early game threats a player can dish out. Abrupt Decay is without a doubt one of the best removal spells in magic hitting not only creatures but also enchantments, planeswalkers, or any other 3cmc or less permanents. One of the downfalls of Abrupt Decay is that it can't target land permanents so when you opponent is playing infect and has no creatures but there inkmoth nexus and you can't kill it bc abrupt decay can't target it that's where one of the best black removal spells (i'm predicting) comes into play. Fatal Push is a new removal spell from aether revolt that has me jumping up and down for you can destroy target creature with 2 cmc or less (I'm looking at you; Bob, Goyf, Snap, Manlands, merfolk, deathrite shaman, ect.) but that's not even the best part the card has this new mechanic called revolt where if a permanent you control left the battlefield this turn it turns into a destroy creature 4cmc or less which hits a even larger number of creatures. But how do I proc this effect you ask? well its easy just use a fetch land which counts as a permanent leaving the field and kill anything in sight (except all those huge eldrazi :( @realitysmasher)

• Midrange/Combo: These decks depend on the match up as certain combo decks are to fast to be stopped but with a skilled pilot they can be taken down. They also tend to not interact that much besides some removal which if you have Bitterblossom online tends not to matter. With plenty of pressure through your creatures, hand disruption, and counters you can usually stop them from going off.

• Control: Control is actually quiet easy to beat but again depends on who your facing and what deck their using as a skilled pilot can win many matches even if their deck has a handicap due to the matchup. But Control decks in general don't run many creatures so dropping a Bitterblossom down and protecting it can win the game in a lot of matchups.
