Experimenting with a Phenax/Jace-based mill deck with removal and control.
There are four win conditions:
- Mill with Jace
- Mill with Phenax
- Duskmantle Combo with Jace or Phenax
- Kill with superpowered Wights.
Reasons for the cards:
Duskmantle Guildmage: Using this as a key component of a quick-kill combo. You can pump the first ability and then mill with Breaking // Entering, Phenax or Jace to hit them. Double-pumping on turn six and milling with Jace wins the game. The second ability sucks, I don't use it.
Wight of Precinct Six: Against creature decks (i.e. most of them) they get really big really fast. Good for defending, great for milling with Phenax; you can even win with them as a fourth win condition.
Wall of Frost: Big-body defender that causes attackers to miss an untap step. Also good for Phenax.
Jace: The primary win condition. Protect Jace with plenty of removal or with countering spells after sideboard and he'll win the game for you. Combine Jace with Duskmantle Guildmage and you can win a game on turn six.
Phenax: Obvious. The second win condition. Also works beautifully with Guildmage, although it kills a bit slower than Jace.
Breaking // Entering: A very cheap way to mill eight on turn 2 and get some creatures in the graveyard for your Wights.
Swan Song: A cheap way to counter against control decks or against decks that try to Hero's Downfall your Jace.
Gainsay: Obvious; boarded against control decks.
Siren of the Silent Song: Great card against control decks; the mill is inconsequential but the hand destruction is why they're here.
The various forms of black removal are there to kill just about anything that comes your way.
