Also, a thought - wouldn't a copy or two of Whip of Erebos solve a lot of your problems? Lifelink on Desecration Demon for example, so you don't have to worry about shock lands, Thoughtseize and even 1/2 Read the Bones , combined with the occasional resurrection of a fatty with haste (the opponent's horror of a Consuming Aberration coming out of nowhere to hit for 30 :D).
Anyway, awesome deck man, go get that 1st place on Friday. :)

Ohhhh I like the sound of that idea with the Whip of Erebos !! I wonder how well it'd work out?
October 8, 2013 9:59 a.m.
Pretty well, at least in my mind it does. :) If you want to go a step further, you can add some Blood Crypt and/or Steam Vents to splash red - so you can get full use of your Breaking / Entering , and sideboard (or actually mainboard) Anger of the Gods . I used to run a Dimir deck that eventually evolved into a Grixis Control, so I can't help myself but to suggest you try the same thing. :D
But anyway, back on topic, I feel that Whip of Erebos is very underrated and has the potential to be a major pain in the ass for opponents if used properly. :)

Under rated? I think it is a bit of an overpowered card myself and i feel like soon side boards will reflect a fear of it combined with the ghost council. The suggestion here of using it in this deck has me thinking of making room for it in my deck. Though it may not serve me as well as it would here due to the fact that mine doesnt carry as many creatures. Here though it may be quite the game clincher.
October 8, 2013 10:22 a.m.
Quadsimotto, I don't think it's about the number of creatures the deck runs, it's about the power of the creatures - they must be worth bringing back. Now that I think of it, the whip is actually more useful in a deck with a low number of creatures, it frees up space in the deck, because you only need to draw your bomb once, and if removed, you can bring it back instead of trying to draw another copy.
I agree with what you said about it being overpowered, it's just that people don't seem to have realized it yet - it's only $3.49, and will go up to $8-10 in the next two months in my opinion.

I would say that is highly likely. From playetesting against decks that are using it and the ghost council as a combo. It is a dangerous game changing card that i will be keeping a Psychic Strike or Syncopate in hand for. It would not be a bad card to buy a few play sets of now knowing that it rise in price as people see the value of it. I would say the same for the Bow. I do not know what it is running price wise but of the godly legendary weapon enchantment cards i would say it is the most overpowered with the whip a close second.

@ Selvin To be honest with you, I have contemplated on using Whip of Erebos for the whole bring back the dead type effect, as well as lifelink. The only issue im having is replacing cards. I have grown so attached to what cards are in here that I am not 100% sure on what to remove as of now, however, I do highly believe it is a great card and will try to put it in, I don't think it will get more than 1-2 slots though.
@ cyaegha Thanks! Highly appreciate it! As far as card draw, I did run Pilfered Plans but quickly swapped it out for Read the Bones . I feel like card draw isn't an issue since most of my draws are typically set by Omenspeaker and if Thassa, God of the Sea is out scry 1 on upkeep each turn does its job very well. So im not ready to input more draw cards at this particular time.

Well, even if you had the spare room, I would advise against using more than two copies of Whip of Erebos . :) You can take out one Omenspeaker and one Far / Away I suppose...

Idk thats a tough call Omenspeaker needs to stay a playset so I can maximize the chance of getting it on T2, and Far / Away is so useful as well, but id much rather remove something like 1x Dissolve and 1x Far / Away since Omenspeaker speeds the deck up and is a T2 body

I have a deck very similar to this one and I like yours better. I do have a Thoughtseize and wondered what I should take out for it. Also what do you think about adding two Temple of Deceit to your mana base? Thanks for your time and feedback.

I like it a lot. Some expensive cards in there though, but you get what you pay for! +1 for sure.

I don't think UB (Dimir) is a thing for standard right now, you want to splash red for Anger of the Gods. Check out my list "Fate of Norns" for a reference to a very capable deck :)

What about bringing in Duskmantle Guildmage for damage on the mills? Activate the Guildmage's first ability, then Jace's +0 and then a Breaking for 18 damage?
October 9, 2013 12:35 p.m.
Vindemiatrixx says... #16
Thats a terrible way to do the combo, you can just kick Duskmantle Guildmage twice + Jace, Memory Adept 0 ability and the opponent will take 2 dmg per card, 10 cards = 20 life, GG however, I never really used his ability that much, he is a good card but I wanted Omenspeaker to help me get draws set up.
Ill consider putting it back in the deck but the slots are kinda hard to figure out. I could remove 1x Omenspeaker and 1x Dissolve for 2x Duskmantle Guildmage lemme know what you think about that swap, I used to run the Guildmage but then took it out quite a while back! thanks for the recommendation
@ stigblue Are you serious? Dimir has so many good cards for standard at the moment. Splashing red wouldn't be out of the question though but I would basically have to start from scratch and rebuild completely.

Hey I was looking at this deck and noticed you have Rogue's Passage in the maybe board. Have you considered cards like Aqueous Form ? For one mana you're getting the same effect as Rogue's Passage with the addition of scrying. Another card I thought of was Triton Tactics to replace the effect of the Wall of Frost that you've taken out. I also decided to run Nightveil Specter instead of Desecration Demon as a way of activating Thassa, God of the Sea . Hope my suggestions help.

All great ideas, I would much rather use Aqueous Form but cards are so tight that id much rather replace a land for the unblockable with another form of land that also gives unblockable, plus lands are harder to remove vs enchants. Nightveil Specter is great but I think Desecration Demon has more overall presence since he has scary power/toughness

I like how the list is looking. I'd not want to play against it. What's the meta like in your area?
October 9, 2013 10:23 p.m.
I like it. +1 from me. I did a quick playtest against my deck Heisenberg, which is a very similar esper control deck. I won on T8 by milling you out, but would have been dead next turn by your Jace, Memory Adept (my library was down to 6). Very close matchup. Please take a look at my deck and let me know what you think. I haven't taken my deck out to the LGS yet and am looking for feedback. Thanks in advance! -Apop.

@ deht The current meta in my area seems to be weenie decks with tokens and just straight aggro or burn, not too many control decks in my area because people don't see the true value of control. They aren't non existent just rare in my area, and if they are playing control its typically "sub par" in my opinion.
@ Apoptosis Thanks! Ill check your deck out, as well as my thoughts on it! Thanks for the feedback always nice to get community input.

Great mix of midrange creatures and many control cards. I don't really agree with Elixir of Immortality as I can imagine you have it in there against mill decks. I'd probably go with a Psychic Spiral instead, since you probably won't have to deal with damage against a mill deck (Unless you play against yourself).
This deck kind of reminds me of the old Jund Midrange (Thragtusk , Olivia, Huntmaster) that would stomp most of the FNM I went to. Except its UB, so it's awesome! Have all my upvotes! I'm curious how you'd do against Esper Midrange, as Supreme Verdict seems like it would make your Consuming Aberration and Desecration Demon cry bitter tears.

It keeps up with Esper for the most part, Apoptosis ran it against his amazing Esper control/mill deck and I atleast kept up but if I lost the 1st game to a Supreme Verdict I would hold my Far / Away as much as I could to bounce back Consuming Aberration and Desecration Demon to prevent them from wiping. Its just something to consider when adjusting to what you are up against. I like the idea of Psychic Spiral though its def something to swap

i'm trying out Disperse with Far / Away for extra options.
October 10, 2013 12:07 p.m.
thanks Vindemiatrixx, you were a turn away from milling me out. I'll run one more playtest.
Also, If you run Disperse , Far / Away , Cyclonic Rift it's worth considering Thoughtseize . I'm leaning towards putting it in mainboard.

Hey man! Didn't really have time for reviewing yesterday so here goes. Playtested today with 3 different decks and i can say it's pretty solid. Only suggestion i can make is to add some extra draw maybe Pilfered Plans ? Also here's the upvote this deck deserves, but not the one your ocd needs right now.
