u got huge mana costs and u definatily want to hit lands every turn. i suggest running 25 lands for sure. I also believe that ashiok is too weak i would have her in my sideboard instead. And i would have 4 jace architecht of thought or even a jace memory adept in her place. And i wouldnt run drown in sorrow i would run Bile Blight and instead of dispel either 2 negate or 2 more gainsay or duress

Thanks for the input.

I prefer Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver over Jace, Memory Adept any day. He stops by earlier, is able to take a few hits (if not Hero's Downfall ed or burned), and makes a good distraction while I do my other stuff.

I would go for a 3rd Jace, but my pocket is currently wounded by my first acquisitions for the deck. I will obtain one later on.

I was thinking of running Bile Blight for some time, but after testing out what I already have in the deck (along with space-holders), I'm convinced to run at least three on the sideboard along with the two Drown in Sorrow . I run Drown in Sorrow because it does not target one name.

Whats your answer to a fast Agro deck?

January 25, 2014 12:37 p.m.

HappehNinja says... #6

Rasir, for the moment the sideboard is. This is my first take on these colors and I will probably have a few modifications before reaching the final product (while keeping the premise of my idea, of course).

look at mine I just reformatted it because I had to ask myself the same question.

taking a look at mine and then at your deck i'm not trying to push my idea onto you or be offensive about this but that is a high mana curve and you would never want to miss a drop to keep yourself afloat till you get stable maybe drop the thoughtseize to add in omenspeaker so you have that extra blocker at least for a turn. +1 from me btw I like the deck

HappehNinja says... #9

None taken. Yeah, most of the times I'd find myself using whatever I drop as blanks when I don't have any type of removal at hand, but I guess that isn't too bad. Omenspeaker , though, sounds like a really good suggestion. I'll take it under consideration.

I like the deck, and have tried similar variations, but I've found that Phenax is a terribly inconsistent win condition with all the removal currently in the standard format. 9 times out of 10 I'd rather have more Consuming Aberration or a Jace, Memory Adept or Mind Grind if you plan on going for a mill win-con.

February 22, 2014 2:37 p.m.

HappehNinja says... #12

Well, you see, Phenax, God of Deception IS a winning condition for the deck, but I don't rely on him religiously. He does certainly win when I have a Consuming Aberration on the field if left unanswered and perhaps with a Wall of Frost , but I have other ways of winning. An unblockable Consuming Aberration with Thassa, God of the Sea can certainly win if unanswered. Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is ment to be a distraction, but if unattended can potentially win games.

What I'm trying to say is, that I don't focus on a single winning conditions. I focus on card synergy.

Thanks for the input, though. I've considered adding Jace, Memory Adept , and my friends have suggested so as well, but I consider him too weak to maintain on the field. I'll consider adding him as a sideboard option.

i like the deck, if you want to run Arbiter of the Ideal you could use Triton Tactics instead of Kiora's Follower to trigger the inspired ability :) (and also mill for an extra +3 for each creature untapped, and even kill an attacker if played right :P)

also you could run Rapid Hybridization to kill some annoying Blood Baron of Vizkopa or target one of your own gods to get a new 3/3 to block/mill

another suggestion is to put AEtherling that guy is just nuts, perfect mana sink, you could tap it in your turn to mill, pay one to exile him, and then mill on the opponent turn, or just make him -1/+1 for a lot and then mill :P

+1 to you :D

@HappehNinja: In testing this deck, I've found that Devour Flesh is far less beneficial in the main board vs. Bile Blight against aggro decks, mono-B, and mono-U. Having the ability to target the main creature threat is more useful.

Next, I've found G/x and W/x aggro decks can get real hard starts to deal with. So I've moved Bile Blight to the MB and dropped Devour Flesh in place of Lifebane Zombie . That way any G/x & W/x decks take the hit from Thoughtseize and Lifebane Zombie . I know LZ doesn't contribute in any real way to the mil function but it does WORLDS more against anything with G or W.

In my area G/W aggro/life gain & W/U heroic and aggro decks are very prominent.

I've regularly won against mono-B & U, Naya, Jund Monsters, and just about anything else that I have thrown at it. More testing and GREAT times!

Thanks again!!

BoogieBear, I'm glad that you are embracing your local deck types and that you modify the deck accordingly. If the changes prove to be fruitful for you, then keep them. Thanks for the suggestions. Truly.

I run Devour Flesh mainboard over Bile Blight because it does not only help to scratch off initial threats or to make opportunist kills, but it also heals myself by sacrificing a Wall of Frost , Desecration Demon or a potentially big Consuming Aberration when things don't go my way. You do mark a mighty good point when my opponent drops a threat that it can no longer target, but sometimes risks are to be taken.

As in for Lifebane Zombie ... I'm not really a fan of it. Though, he should do nicely on other variations and builds that revolve discarding as a winning condition.

HappehNinja, What are your thoughts about replacing Wall of Frost with Hover Barrier to be able to block fliers? I know the 0/7 blocks a lot of the 6/x creatures and keeps things tapped an extra turn but the easier casting of Hover Barrier and the flying piece seems very relevant for mono-U and anything flying really.

February 24, 2014 1:50 p.m.

HappehNinja says... #20

That seems like a viable option. Currently, Wall of Frost is there not only for blocking and milling, but also as a devotion medium. Still, that Hover Barrier may work. I'll take it under consideration.

Okay I'm a big mill player it's what I use right now and this is the deck I use currently. I'm wondering how consistent you are in your mill kills or do you just pump up something like your aberration to do enough damage to make it game? I'm just saying if you really wanted to go full dimir mill should runs cards like Mind Grind , Traumatize , and Jace, Memory Adept . I'm sure your deck is a completely viable strategy but it can become far more milling intensive.
