Could you try Gyre Sage as a mana dork? Smiters would evolve it, but it might be a little slow on the start. It could evolve twice if you go T2 Sage, T3 Emissary into a Smiter.

Dorotheus You mean fliers or what?
tntturtle5 Gyre Sage could be a good idea, just don't know if it would be fast enough, and it might attract burn. I'll have to playtest and see if it works out. Thanks for the input!

I might try dropping the aurelia to 1 and adding on more Archangel of Thune .
Also Theros has brought a two drop defender hexproof tap for any mana. Might be nice to add for fixing. Also there is also Manaweft Sliver

I think you have too many nonbasic lands. During playtests, it seems difficult to get an early game going as a result, having to either pay life or wait a turn for plays to begin. In particular, you probably want more forests if you intend to ramp early. It's a shame you're staying in standard, because the Innistrad lands would be killer in this deck, and they allow you to use a lot of basics quite efficiently.

Inthe0ry Thanks for the input! I will probably keep 2x Aurelia, the Warleader and 2x Archangel of Thune for now, mainly due to the fact that the angel is up around $25 or so and I also really just like it when Aurelia lands.
Concerning the mana dorks, I definitely think both of those are great options. The Theros one, Sylvan Caratyid seems to be the best choice so hopefully I can get my hands on a few.
Trollhoffer Thanks for your comment! I agree, sometimes early game seems to be waiting on the mana. Typically, though, I have some defense to play, whether it's burn from the mainboard or some sort of control from the sideboard. Hopefully I will be able to address the issue when Theros rolls. I did, however, remove the 2x Grove of the Guardian . I didn't realize they were still in from a previous build. Replaced them with 1x forest and 1x plains. And yea, currently I am playing a pre-rotation version of this deck with Rootbound Crag and Sunpetal Grove in. Gotta love the buddy lands... it definitely is too bad they are rotating. The Temple lands in Theros look interesting, but won't do much to speed up my mana base.

I don't think there are enough creatures to support Domri.
September 13, 2013 1:40 p.m.
blink in a way I kind of agree with you, but in this deck his +1 is more of a perk. What I really want him for is removal with his -2, especially if I have Unflinching Courage or a reckoner down. If I'm playing against a deck where I don't need removal, I can +1 with hopes of ulting him. Either way, he is also a threat an opponent has to answer if they want to stabilize.
September 13, 2013 11:20 p.m.
So I like the way you put life gain into maya colors. The only two cents I have to put in is that with domri rade, I think you should have more creatures. With only 20 creatures and 16 other than creature spells not including lands it doesn't seem like he would be doing you any good. With this set up Ajani, Caller of the Pride would help you more. That second ability would get some massive damage through while gaining you lots of life if you use a guy with the courage on him. +1 for me though
September 27, 2013 2:02 p.m.
boston89 Thanks for your thoughts and +1!
Domri Rade does have some limitations in this deck, but his possibilities with his -2 and ultimate in this particular build are amazingfighting with a Boros Reckoner with Unflinching Courage would be the ideal situation. Domri's +1 is more of a perk than it is a reliable mechanic. Also, he is a threat an opponent has to deal with in order to stabilize.
However, I hadn't even considered Ajani, Caller of the Pride . I'm thinking you're onto something there, especially if I end up putting the Purphoros, God of the Forge I pulled at pre-release in this deck, so I'll have to do some playtesting. Elspeth, Sun's Champion is a similar possibility.

I like domri he is one of my favorite planes walkers. I think y'all underestimate him just because there's not a lot of creatures. He's still pretty useful and I think you should keep him. He is still a threat when he hits the board because nobody wants that sitting their for to long causing them to waste a card and the mana to remove him or try to get through with creatures.

Its a solid build, the kind of aggro I hate to vs playing barely Boros. +1 from me. By the way Domri isnt underestimated at all, she is expensive thats why people dont run 3x and 4x of her at FNM. Naya , Gruul and Jund just havnt shown up at opens to any avail after rotation just yet. They say its Mono Red or Control season but I think this deck could top 8 at an open. My only change would be to run 4x caryatids and 2x elvish mystic.
October 9, 2013 1:52 p.m.
Dragonfish17 Yea! Finally someone sees the Domri Rade light! I have him in this deck for exactly the reasons you mentioned. If I open hand him and a Boros Reckoner then I can shut down an aggro deck in a single turn on T3 or 4.
OFABass Wow, thanks much! I need to post an update, but I've been playing against a friend's BUG and a RWU Control deck with this build and consistently coming out on top, so so far so good. I really want to go up against Mono Red and Grixis to see how things go.
RedCloud2012 Thanks! Yea, I've been tempted to run 3x of Sylvan Caryatid and Elvish Mystic , but I want to really want that T1 Mystic to happen, so I feel the need to keep it 4x. However, running 3x or 4x Caryatids would be ideal for mid- to late-game mana-fixing and blocking, so I might need to do some play testing with that.

caryatids are better against early aggro like mono red. They stall 1s and 2s like a auger of bolasWhile giving you mana and not having to worry about burn combo's due to hexproof. The are the most stable useful mana dork ever printed almost. Trust me after facing the good aggressive decks Red , Boros and Gruul you will see what I mean think of this control cant slap AZ Charm down put it ontop of your deck and stop your tempo which is more inportant than a turn 2 loxdon when your opponent gains lots of life later anyway. Example sphinx Revelation or Blood baron of viscopa Az Charm exc. Tempo is what wins games not casting a good creature a turn early.
October 9, 2013 2:19 p.m.
RedCloud2012 You make a really good point about the Sylvan Caryatid protecting my tempo better than a Mystic. I hadn't thought of it in those terms yet. I will definitely be doing some testing to see about that. Side note, I loathe Azorius Charm ...

Fleece manes a good card to run to. 2 for a 3/3 that can become a 4/4 indestructible/ hexproof? I love that card, and I love az charm! But I use more for its life gain ability than its control. Nothing like giving life link to a couple of loxodons Lol.

RedCloud2012 says... #19
That is not wise fish because az charm is really more valuable to wreck tempo and take a lead charm for charm. You always have control over your life total and your opponents through accessing colateral dam and making attack block decissions but the real power struggle lies in tempo and draw and if you reset your opponent 2 times in one move by not only returning their cast to their hand but making it their next draw ontop of it, there are several points #1 it was probably the best thing they could do and will be again on their next turn #2 they arent drawing land and #3 they are tapping out over and over giving you free reign. Now do that 3 times and I will show you hopelessness on the face of your opponent. Gain life...you get a dirty look lol. The only time I ever used Az charm for lifelink was A to save my life and B in a lucky charms deck in combo with boros charm on a blocked reckoner to gain a million life.

I use it more for its life gain because its a nice way to keep alive. Doesn't mean I only use it for that purpose. Like all the other charms it has multiple purposes and I will not limit it to just one. And I only use it when I need it. I'm not one of those players that wants to throw out everything in my hand asap.

dvizzier: Yea, I don't think it's that clear cut, but thanks for your input. There's lots of cards any deck could lose to...
As awesome of a card as it is, there's plenty of ways to deal with Stormbreath Dragon . For removal: Celestial Flare , Mizzium Mortars , or Domri Rade fight ability. Archangel of Thune and Aurelia, the Warleader for blocks if it comes to that.
You do make me realize I need a reliable way to deal with flying in the sideboard, though. Gift of Orzhova or Aerial Maneuver might be good possibilities.
October 12, 2013 1:32 a.m.
ya, i had a g/w aggro deck. if i lost, it was to a flying creature(s), mainly Stormbreath Dragon , but my only removal was Selesnya Charm so i just lost if stormbreath came out. lol
October 12, 2013 1:48 a.m.
the reason i say that you'd lose to Stormbreath Dragon is because all of your creatures are white. you can't deal damage, target, or block the dragon with white spells/creatures. the Celestial Flare would work, as long as it's the only creature attacking. Mizzium Mortars works as long as it's not monstrous. but other than that you'd be screwed by him right now. i do believe domri's -2 would work though, not sure.
