Dang, I hadn't seen the huntmaster yet. I was trying to build an improvise Dino Deck, to cheat out the big fatties. Now I believe I'll take a different path.

+1 and saving this list for it's potential. Gotta say, I didn't think dinosaurs were going to be able to contend with merfolk or pirates but now I'm not so sure

Your curve doesn't end the way you want it to. Gishath is an 8 drop, costing 1 less from your Huntmaster still means you have to wait until turn 7 in the scenario you described. Don't get me wrong, the deck has plenty of ways to ramp Gishath out turn 6 or even sooner but not in the turn by turn scenario that you described of Huntmaster to Ripjaw to Alpha to Tyrant.

MWorl91 oh shoot thanks for noticing that! Will have to put a 7-drop there. Of course with the new [Kinjali's Caller] it gives a T1 "ramp" that would allow the above sequence...will update when it gets added. Thank you!

I play tested this a bunch of times, and it is such a nice build. My only complaint is not having at least one Plains to find with Beneath the Sands to be able to drop the Goring Ceratops.

I think on a turn seven I swung for 24 damage with the Carnage Tyrant, Goring Ceratops getting haste from the Otepec Huntmaster andRanging Raptors.

A lot of nice plays. I would maybe tweak the sideboard to combat control, more graveyard hate to fight the God Pharoah deck, and more exile for Planeswalkers. What is your strategy against mirror Carnage Tyrant?

September 14, 2017 8:51 a.m.

Geo67 thanks for the feedback! Will add a Plains, I too wished I could pull one sometimes of the Sands.

I will work on the sideboard. I need to figure out the mirror, you have any ideas for Carnage? Maybe something with deathtouch... I will think about it!

I really like this idea of ramping using Kinjali's Caller, Otepec Huntmaster. You have to cut down a little bit the big creatures I think. It is just to inconsistent at the moment. Initial hand usually doesn't have anything to cast cause you are full of 5,6 and 7 drop cards even after mulligans; and in order to make this deck work I think you need to find your 1 and 2 drops at the beginning of the game.My suggestion would be, cut down the big creatures a little bit and add more control for the early game, Magma Spray, Abrade, Harnessed Lightning, Cast Out, etc. You have plenty of options with those colors. Maybe you can add more defense tools like Blossoming Defense. Maybe you can add a few deserts and add Hour of Promise instead of a Beneath the Sands.

Hashep Oasis can really do work in a creature base deck.

For the control matches which are going to be the hardest ones for sure I think Prowling Serpopard can help you a lot. Crook of Condemnation against graveyard stuff. For the mirror match I would consider Rhonas the Indomitable, maybe even for the main board.

I think this deck can work really well if the ratios of spells are fixed. That would be my +1. Hope it helps

jorgeduardo thanks so much for the thoughtful input, you've made good points and I will work on incorporating them in!

Not sure if mentioned above but in your description kinjalli's caller. I would not bank on this card as a turn 1. The problem I have found is that Naya land's don't agree with a turn 1 white cost play. You only have 3 total lands that could do it and using clerics or whatever for unclaimed territory is bad. As much as I would want it in the deck, there are better options for the lands.

TastyBeverage, agreed, I'm usually looking to play an Amonkhet cycle land Turn 1. The good thing about Caller is that you can drop it T2 and also play a Raptor Hatchling that turn, and stay ahead of curve next turn. Obviously a crap top deck too though, I'll have to try maybe 2x to start and playtest it. Good point.

I think Goring Ceratops is a bad idea. With Harnessed Lightning, Abrade, and now Lightning Strike there are a bunch of ways to kill a 3 toughness creature.

Pyruscreed ok good point, thanks

Jimmy_Chinchila No problem. It sucks that a card as cool as Goring Ceratops is so vulnerable to removal, but I guess WOTC thought giving double strike warranted it.

How would one go about making this deck budget? I have already pulled most of the components from boosters and sealed boxes, all I need now is the 3x carnage tyrant, 1x deathgorge, 2x regisaurs, and 4x ripjaws. How important are the carnage tyrants in your opinion?

I tried a naya dino deck at my LGS and all i came up against was Approach and control and energy. I didn't have carnage tyrant or the unblockable cat. lost all my matches to removal and instant countering. Is there any way to reliably get around this or should i just abandon and switch to a blue deck?

October 19, 2017 12:03 p.m.

Da5hcharl, Pygmyrhino990 its tough to be a competitive deck without Carnage Tyrant, as against control the best bet we have is try and get it out quickly. One thing to do would be to slow things down a turn and add in 4x Blossoming Defense so you can leave mana open to protect from removal. Once they see you're playing Defense, you can leave open a green mana to bluff you have one in hand, so try and keep a card in hand at all times. As for countermagic, without Tyrant you can use Prowling Serpopard but if you don't have that you can try and lower the curve to go wide. Try and get them to think you're going tall with creatures up the curve so they'll not "waste" counters on little 2 and 3 drops. Sky Terror is good early pressure that they won't likely counter, but there's always gonna be Censor that they're gonna try and use on early turns, so try and keep an eye on if the opponent has mana open. Ideally cast your important pieces only when they're tapped out (Regisaur Alpha for example). This may lead to turns when all you're doing is playing a land but eventually you'll have enough lands to drop some fatties. This is then where Carnage Tyrant is so clutch, as it provides some inevitability for the deck.

Perhaps use things like Raptor Hatchling to chip away at life total as they likely won't remove, counter or block it.

Blue is always tough to play against with a midrange deck, but if you have enough pressure on them it forces them to have to have the right cards at the right time or else they'll get worn away. Make them have to use 3-mana spells to kill your dinky guys and buy time to find a Tyrant. With the Communes, you don't need a playset. Even having 1 copy in the deck makes it far more competitive, as against control and Approach the games go long giving you time to find that one copy. It's down to like $24 currently.

Good points, I will give it more thought!

I think I might just wait it out for carnage tyrant and see where the price goes. At the moment the price seems to be on the decline since september when it was at its highest. Once it gets cheaper I might try and snag one for about $15 but that could take a while

October 19, 2017 4:18 p.m.

Pygmyrhino990 in the meantime you could use Burning Sun's Avatar or Verdant Sun's Avatar

October 19, 2017 7:36 p.m.

Pygmyrhino990, Da5hcharl ok I thought of an idea, haven't tested though: instead of Carnage Tyrant use Sunbird's Invocation. It triggers with Casting so even if your Regisaur Alpha gets countered, you can get a free upgraded Commune with Dinosaurs and maybe hit another one... could tax their removal, and not much mainboard enchantment hate out there lately. Problem is gonna be sticking it. Get them to tap out, maybe tempt with a Reggie, an Abrade on their God-Pharaoh's Gift or Walking Ballista and stick Invocation. Who knows, might not work at all, but def budget.

Hey really cool deck, I took some inspiration from your deck on working on my own Dino Deck. However Im curious on your reasoning for sideboarding single copies of planeswalkers? Im fairly new to the game so Im sorry if the answer is obvious.

Btw my deck is We're Back: A Dinosaur Deck if anyone wants to leave feedback

October 26, 2017 9 a.m.

zachdig to be honest Im just kinda experimenting with them. I like having some non-creature threats game 2-3 in case they bring in more creature removal, and theyre particularly helpful in the mirror or grindier match ups. Something like Hour of Devastation to deal with Hazoret the Fervent and/or Puncturing Blow to handle The Scarab God might be better depending on your meta.
