Also Sword of War and Peace is also amazing in this deck. It can get through and with the cards you're going to be drawing, the life gain is pretty good. Banshee's Blade , is also nuts in this deck as well as Empyrial Plate . any more draw spells works.

O wow! Never seen Empyrial Plate before! When I first envisioned this deck I was using Righteous Authority but it obviously didn't have a place once I made it Mono-Blue. Right now I don't have a lot of money to drop on swords, but it's always in the back of my head. Thanks for the suggestions!

And yeah I know those are Modern cards so I could always sell them back for almost if not full price if I wanted, but I'm relatively new to Magic so I have to work up my nerve to actually spending that much on a card xD

ah okay. Banshee's Blade in this deck is a cheap substitute for the swords. on the Invisible Stalker , it's going to keep getting bigger.

Switch the Negate's and the Redirect for other counterspells or bounce effects like Unsummon . Aggro decks have a field day. if you're going to compete with them, then things like crypitc command and other effects are needed to stop the onslaught. though gruul isn't common, it's still something you're going to have to prepare for. welcome to modern i guess.

@kyle_mit
Thanks man, I really do appreciate all the feedback!
I do have one question, though. You recommend Banshee's Blade but it just seems so slow compared to swords and Empyrial Plate . On the first turn swinging, banshee's will give the creature no bonuses, and on the second turn it will only be +1/+1. I usually have about 4 cards in hand by turn 4, so unless I'm not understanding something Empyrial Plate is just a way better fit for this deck.

it's a substitute for the swords. they are expensive and they are perhaps one turn slower than the blade. the plate's are insane and combo'd with the swords, this deck can win quickly if not dealt with. Slippery Boggle! would be amazing in this deck too, because he's hexproof, and the swords mean's he's very hard to deal with, however he isn't unblockable, so that might not be such a good idea, but he can't be bolted or removed via spells, only in combat.

I wouldn't. You have nothing above 3 at this point, if the costal priacy is gone. 22 is the max for this deck, and they all have to be Island

play test the deck, then tell me it doesn't need more mana.
September 17, 2013 12:03 a.m.
I have many times man. it doesn't need it. you're drawing so many cards that it doesn't matter. if i would add any more, i wouldn't do 24. 22 would be my limit because it's just going to clog everything up. i'd rather keep the 20 right now, and possibly get rid of the Cyclonic Rift or Atherize and put in Boomerang

well I tried to play test the deck several times and never had enough mana to cast any thing.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! While I do think 24 is pushing it, I do have to agree that the deck gets mana starved more than I'd like. For this reason I've added Hidden Strings back in that can be cast for free and gives me the potential of 2 free mana every turn. It works very well with the low cost of spells in this deck.
September 17, 2013 3:10 a.m.
@APPLE01DOJ Well good sir, you might as well take my word for it. This deck is good with the 20 lands in it. you're drawing so many cards that it's hard not to draw into another land. look at the mana curve. 24 mana would have the opposite effect of 20, in which you'd be drawing WAAAAAAAY to much of it for that low cost of spell. with only 5, 4 mana spells, 24 is way too high. the fact that not every land in this deck is an island, makes it awkward to cast things, but 16 islands do work. 9 times out of ten the deck worked really well when i play tested it. This deck is mostly 2 or 3 drops. and some 4 drops. the 4 mana spells, are too slow for this deck, but some good enough to stay in. though if he's getting Cryptic Command then the other 4 mana spells should be removed for them.

Main deck the architect of thought. If you can get another one, that will be good as well against the aggro deck.
September 17, 2013 8:15 a.m.
Have you considered Judge's Familiar? It's a 1/1 flier that can counter spells and/or get triggers for dealing combat damage. I feel like you need more creatures to smack with xD

@Beetall
Yeah he's always been in the back of my head and I think you're do right about needing more creatures. I recently played an opponent who used him and I really liked how it delayed a lot of my plays. I think I'll playtest him a little, thanks!

@graveyardwaltz
It's a really good cantrip but it feels a little expensive for the deck. I can definitely see it saving me a lot of damage, though. Thanks for the input!

I really like Runechanter's Pike but because my creatures all have 1 Toughness, it would mean even while equipped they're still vulnerable to Electrickery and Golgari Charm . Thanks for the idea, though!

Then again, if I ran way more counters I wouldn't have to worry about that while simultaneously beefing up the Runechanter's Pike quite a bit... I'll have to think about it!

Condescend is one of my favorite counter spells, the scry 2 might be beneficial. I like the deck but I would probably put in another Slippery Bogle . +1

pkbrainfreeze says... #25
Ah that is a badass counterspell! The scry could really save me a turn or two of frustration. If you wouldn't mind, what would be your suggestion for Condescend ? Would you switch out 4xRune Snag or something else?
kyle_mit says... #1
i'd put power enchantments in here. stuff like spectral flight and swords. swords would do so much in this deck. Both fire and Ice and Feast and Famine, would smash face. Sturmgeist isn't really needed in this deck. same with psychosis crawler, regardless, the swords and counterspells like Mana Leak and Remand
