Okay, so you probably already figured out that aside from a few exceptions our manacurve is pretty low, meaning we are supposed to take the initiative in the most matchups. However, we are a control deck and aren't really big on minions so how do we still keep the initiative? Well...by destroying our enemies gameplan. In order to accomplish that I decided to go for the discard route.
Hypnotic Specter
turned out to be the perfect creature for that role; it is fast, has flying and poses a huge threat in the early game cause there is the chance that it will get off its effect repeatedly.
Funeral Charm
doesn't really need explaining anymore; its just very versatile.
Gerrard's Verdict
is another card that feels preety good in this deck. Not only does it allow you to get rid two of your opponents cards, it also gives you life when they decide to get rid of lands. Now that probably sounds pretty weird, right? I mean if they know your list they probably start hoarding lands in order to stay relevant in the lategame. Now even though this might seem as it would make sense it actually doesn't. The goal of your enemy is to kill you before you lock them down. Taking away their cards one by one gives them the incentive to close the game out even faster. So yeah, I guess there are a lot of times where you will actually receive healing from it. Then there is also
Hymn to Tourach
, a classic that always finds a way in discard-themed decks, cause it allows for strong disruption (2 cards and not the enemy's choice? sign me up!). Now, the last card that supports our discard synergy is
Dream Salvage
. This card allows us to even get rewarded for milling our opponent. 1 mana in order to draw 2 cards is already good but there is the chance to get even more, as well as the possibility to chain into more draws. Overall a pretty neat addition.
