Shrieking Affliction would work better, than hellfire mongrel IMO. The threshold is lower but the damage is greater. Also Sire Of Insanity as a 1 of could work

Shrieking Affliction is better when it comes to dealing damag, but Hellfire Mongrel is also a 2/2 creature whict means it can block something or deal additional damage as attacker if possible.One Sire should look really nice here. Any idea what to remove to find some space for him?

How is Thoughtseize not in this deck?

@Ch33kY: It's budget deck, playset of Thoughtseize would cost me almost as much as whole deck itself for now. Hovewer, it's good idea of course.

First of all, running a Rack effect on a creature is inefficient. There is a lot of creature removal in the format, from Dismember to Lightning Bolt . It is a lot harder to remove an enchantment, especially pre-side. I'd recommend cutting the Mongrels and making way for Shrieking Affliction .

Painful Quandary is way too expensive for its cost. I'd suggest running The Rack in this slot.

You shouldn't really need Guul Draz Specter or other creatures in this deck, but if you really want to run them, I'd prefer Nihilith , as it can be bigger and it's cheaper.

Dismember is better than Terminate for obvious reasons.

Waste Not is pure card advantage for you. I'd recommend running them over Mind Shatter and Mind Rot .

Inquisition of Kozilek , Raven's Crime and Cry of Contrition are also efficient discard spells with converted mana cost 1. Running them also avoids Spell Snare .

If you had more funds, Liliana of the Veil , Damnation and Ensnaring Bridge all work well in this deck.

Kolaghan's Command? It's an instant speed discard spell to edge against decks that can creep back into the game, along with being spot removal and a way to return one of your specters to your hand if they get removed. Also, main deck artifact removal isn't a bad option to have in the back pocket in some situations.

rakdos return??

I'm not so sure about rakdos return - it's a bit slow if you compare it to blightning - rakdos for 4mana (2) is worse than blighting, at 5 mana it's a little bit better - same damage but 1 more discard. It means that I need at least 5 mana for it to get the value. It's only adventage is, that when i have like 8-9 mana (from lands or from waste not) I can hit opponent for 6. I'll think about it.The Rack is obvious choice in 8-rack. My deck is a little bit different - I don't always force opponent to discard whole hand turn 3, I rather take adventage of him discarding cards later, when I have waste not or liliana caress. The card itself is great, but it doesn't fit here so well.

Liliana's Caress? It seems quite nice if you were to drop it early game.

I already have 2 here. I had 3, but the decided to go down to 2 to fit in more removal.

How does this deck compare to other Modern staple decks?

What I played against:
1. GU infect - depends on opponent hand - I ussualy have spot removal on turn 2, so I can protect myself from taking many counters, unless opponent has some protection. On turn 3 I can cast Tribute to Hunger, but it's single. If I make it to turn 4 by keeping removal and making him discard, it becomes easier to win with each turn.
2. Twin - I had no flawless victory nor defeat, usually very close games. Sideboarding helpes alot.
3. Tron - very difficult matchup pre-sideboard, but much easier later. The worst thing is, that opponent has huge adventage when we both play from top, because his draw usually is something big, or something with cantrip.
4. Emrakul breach - First game lost because of emrakul turn 3(he was on play), but still I menaged to hit him down to 2 life. Second game lost because after my turn 1 duress I had pleasure to see 3 Obstinate Baloths in his opening hand.
5. Grixis delver - more wins than loses. Easy game with slagstorms, once I killed opponent with blighting + liliana caress only (he had like 3 fetches for untapped shock, and 2 gitaxian probes without mana).
6. Abzan aristrocrat/blood artist/BW tokens - depends on hand - I have to be very fast to protect my life, but unlike tron - I'm ussualy the one who has better odds when playing from top.
