Yes, too many nasty green and white creatures. My meta has a good bit of Mono Green Ramp, White weenie, Selesnya Agrro/Midrange, and orzhov decks. Lifebane Zombie has never failed to exile a nasty threat. Even exiles Mr. Baron.
I really want to find a slot for the one Erebos, God of the Dead i currently own, if only for that Sphinx's Revelation he's a great card, but where to put him... maybe run 1 less Slaughter Games in the SB. hmm...
Sire Of Insanity
with his 6 CMC has proven too difficult to cast in playtesting with him. Often sitting in my hand for awhile, when i wish he was a castable creature or kill spell. Let me know how he works for you.
Aggro sees me pulling out Liliana, and Hero's Downfall to get the SB kill spells and Lifebane Zombie - (not for RDW) Control i pull out nearly all the spot removal for Pithing Needle (naming Jace 1st, Aetherling 2nd) and Slaughter Games (for the sphinx rev) though this deck has always beaten or tied Esper Control (a deck i face every week) hope this helps, and good luck!

You could ditch a pithing needle or devour flesh from the side if you really wanted him in sb, or you could toss a duress to side and main him, I run 2 main but I run underworld connections so I'm very likley to hit devotion because of obzadat and whip.
January 1, 2014 11:25 a.m.
My reasoning behind that btw is if your gonna put in pithing your gonna prolly put in slaughter games and that would make 5 answers to whatever you had an issue with.

Read the Bones seems the card of choice for me when it comes to card draw. Usually I found myself using card drawing when my hand is getting close to being empty, when I am really ahead, etc.
Underworld Connections hits you, and if you get a land... it is just sad. With Read the Bones you can see the first two, and if you get 2 lands (which you would've with the connections), you could send them to the bottom, and draw 2 spot removals that you direly need! I love this card :D
January 1, 2014 1:18 p.m.
well I run both, 3 and 3 because underworld is nice with scry lands, so you pitched that land anyway but either way if your deck works it works!

dizzzyme where is the list with both cards in your main? :D

I really love your deck, you inspired me to create a similar one.+1
I added rakdos keyrune so to hit my anger of the gods more consistently. and 2 underworld connections for card draw.
And its gone!!! A brief tale of disruption check it out

last question before getting ready for FNM this weekend...
Blood Scrivener or Read the Bones ???
the Scrivener is good as a body too, but those bones offer a chance to dig through a potential of 4 cards.. Which route do I take?
January 3, 2014 2:01 p.m.
I am running mine without card draw this weekend. It won me an FNM without it, so... i'll try it like that again lol.
Read the Bones helped me a lot, but I would like to draw a removal spell over it in most cases :/
Hope Born of the Gods stabilizes our deck a bit more! Gogo Temple of malice!

How is your Mono Black matchup? I can't seem to get around Gray Merchant of Asphodel -_-
January 5, 2014 6:18 p.m.
Fizzz, Gary is almost impossible to get around. The only advice I can really give you is to save your durress and thoughtsieze until they have around 4 mana, and then throw them down every few turns and hope you hit atleast one of their Gary.

Fizzz I agree with xX.Fox.Xx save a thoughtseize for when they are able to play it.... the other things I've done is make sure I target Underworld Connections and Whip of Erebos with duress.
After that use all the removal you have at your disposal to take out the big devotion counting creatures on the battlefield.
Gary is pretty much only effective when he's hitting for big swings in life gained / lost.
In matchups against him, I work to minimising the damage and impact he has.
Players often hold him if he's not going to hit for big swings in HP, which is to our advantage, it stalls their play. The other thing is watching their faces when dropping him for like 4 devotion is priceless, they see it as a waste. Most mono black players I've played against get frustrated as I can handle a 4 point hit, they then start making mistakes.
He is tough to get around - but limiting his impact is the best policy, and that's worked for me. But it's only my take on it.

Erebos, God of the Dead is actually great in a sideboard. Bring him in against mono black devotion and your opponents Gray Merchant of Asphodel will be half as good and the same with their Whip of Erebos . Erebos can really help out in certain matchups because your opponents can't gain life. And ofc if you have enough devotion (which is not that often in a deck like this), then he is also an indestructible 5/7 body wich is nice.

Thoughts against mono black: Shrieking Affliction is often quite a dead card. Use Slaughter Games to filter Underworld Connections and Gray Merchant of Asphodel . Sometimes a Pithing Needle on Swamp is enough when he has no Mutavault and Temple. Running 2 Ratchet Bomb mainboard might also help. And pray for hitting his evil cards with Duress / Thoughtseize :)
January 6, 2014 6 a.m.
laccol it is not possible to use Pithing Needle on swamp because tapping a swamp is a mana ability :)
January 6, 2014 7:29 a.m.
I believe laccol names swamp to get rid of Underworld Connections am I correct?
January 6, 2014 8:09 a.m.
Aah that's right, i'm sry :) I forgot that Underworld Connections ability is given to the enchanted land :)

If this is true... I am not worried about losing Shrieking Affliction :D
January 6, 2014 1:26 p.m.
Shock is too hard to fit in here just to make Master of Cruelties work. Damn @Fizzz that Waste card is going to be a powerhouse! oh my. http://www.magicspoiler.com/mtg-spoiler/waste/
I think we may need to consider mainboarding Slaughter Games
as there is at least 1 target in each major deck we face in a given night. taking out Gary, Blood Baron, Sphinx's Rev, Master of Waves, or Fiendslayer paladin is huge, especially Game 1. as sideboarding with this deck almost always results in wins.
Mono Blue is the tougher devotion matchup, if only because it plays faster with the 1 and 2 drops they have. Toughest matchup is still creature heavy aggro decks/Green devotion, as finding Anger of the Gods
is really our only major defense against it. After that it's control, if only for the slow game 1 we have before sideboarding, and then any deck with Blood Baron of Vizkopa
is a pain, as Devour Flesh
and Mizzium Mortars
are our only answers. I should have sideboarded Slaughter Games
in against that Orzhov COntrol deck in Round 5, b/c Mr Baron ruined me, and my chances at getting #1st on Friday night.
Mono Black has never really been an issue, Shrieking Affliction
has won me a few games against Mono black too. though Pithing Needle
on swamps to fight UC is a great call. thanks @laccol and the best way to fight Gary is by removing him with hand removal. 2nd best is removing the board devotion, as mentioned.
Still debating the proper blend of spot removal mainboard, which card draw will work best (UC vs Read bones), and whether to add Liliana's Reaver or maybe even Rakdos Keyrune
Thanks for all the support and comments! Keep them coming!

Weird, my worst matchup ALWAYS is Mono black :/
R/G, G and U devotion are my best matchups, always. I just do not allow anything on their board on the beginning turns.
Elvish Mystic , zapped
Burning-Tree Emissary into Scavenging Ooze , zap the ooze
Anger of the Gods to wipe their board.
Curiously this match I always go 2-0... except for that one time that I allowed a Garruk drop a Worldspine Wurm -_-
I have also considered using Slaughter Games mainboarded. Hell... the meta consists of just that one card that will win the game. I will play test it tonight to see how it goes.
January 6, 2014 3:51 p.m.
I test your deck with +2 Slaughter Games , 'cause with rats in play, I prefer discard lands, then Rakdos's Return it does little damage. Other slot can be -1 Read the Bones ... and it's great!! :D, in G1 a duress or though and in 90% of the cases u know his deck.

I'd like to echo your comments Fizzz and sharkudi; it's strange to see how we are experiencing different "worst matchups".
Green ramp w/Red has been mine, but I can agree with both of you that Mono Black and Mono Blue can also be troublesome.
I'm trying to put it down to quality of deck builds in our meta - and the player piloting them. Some of the black and blue devotion guys at my LGS are good players, but the Green Ramp guy is regarded as one of the best by most, he builds great decks in all formats - and everyone asks him for help.
One big plus for us - was that he said our style of deck, completely caught him by surprise, he also said that he wasn't sure exactly what he could do to improve his deck against it, or to hinder ours. I took that as a huge compliment - whilst he won - it was obvious, my deck had given him problems and a lot to think about.

The ONLY thing I love about the non BLACK devotion match up is the amount of removal we have!
I got 3 Liliana's Reaver ... testing today!

Honestly if I had money on hand is make this deck considering I have half the cards. But sadly I play on budget only. The most beautiful aspect is the lack of action you can take t respond to a deck like this. Unless your deck swamps past the control you lose Anywho I'd suggest keeping heros downfall for dual+ color decks that include black, doom blade for non black and grave betrayals for the mono black decks or black creature heavy decks. Sideboarding is a beautiful thing. That 2 mana difference can save your ass, letting you play a thoughtseize or durress to remove their win con or power up that pack rat. It would just allow more aggressive card removal. Beautiful beautiful deck though. Mad props.

Lifebane Zombie is amazing Wainwright for several reasons:
