"What is a God-Pharaoh to a nonbeliever?"

-probably Vegeta

This deck is the result of collaboration between my close friend Ifeno and myself. Check out his decks! He has helped me with the vast majority of my high power and cEDH decks and is one of the prominent members of my cEDH group. He and I started the group at our LGS.

This deck was born out of discussions we had about my desire to play something more exciting than Tatyova (now Aesi) and Chulane (dismantled) in our high power group. I enjoy those decks, but I feel like I need to play something more aggressive with them. After looking at multiple options, we decided to try to give Niv-Mizzet a shot.

It's utterly terrifying.

The deck is fairly straightforward. Look for combo pieces, stick Niv-Mizzet, draw the entire deck through comboing out, and go for a Lab Man win. There isn't much more to it than that. It's a combo deck. It will generally play the same each game, but I'm okay with that.

The combos are simple and rather easy to pull off. Simply stick Curiosity or Tandem Lookout on Niv-Mizzet and let the sparks fly. Cast Laboratory Maniac when you draw him and then draw the rest of your deck. Laboratory Maniac is played in this deck over Thassa's Oracle to help make sure you don't die to other people casting instants when you have no cards left in your deck. Jace works as well, but UUU is extremely difficult to hit reliably.

This can also be done with Isochron Scepter and Dramatic Reversal. Sticking one of them practically guarantees a win because once you've pulled off the combo, you'll have all your counterspells in your hand. The chances of losing at that point are slim to none. Worst case scenario, if Laboratory Maniac is not available for whatever reason, burn opponents as much as possible through draw power without putting yourself in the kill zone and deal the rest of the damage in the air. Niv-Mizzet is a 5/5, after all.

There's even a backup to the backup! Stick Copy Artifact on Dramatic Scepter and imprint Lightning Bolt to call down the fury of Thor!

Chopping Block

1) ???

This deck is incredibly tight. Everything serves a purpose. Even the "weak" cards (Dack Fayden) put in a lot of work.

Considerations

1) Sokenzan, Crucible of Defiance

This will mostly just be a land, but it's nice to have the option to channel it instead.

2) Sigil of Sleep

If this was an Equipment spell, it would almost certainly be in here. As an Aura, it's difficult to determine its value. If it stays on the board, Niv-Mizzet will bounce a lot of creatures. If not, it's a waste of space.
