At the very least, I would try to find room for Thousand-Year Elixir as that pseudo-Haste can be very key to ensuring you get value from your commander ASAP. Not to mention untap triggers are pretty great, so Magewright's Stone can also be a pretty powerful inclusion. And the ability to untap your general cranks up the value of cards such as Molten Primordial exponentially.

And let's not forget that Scuttling Doom Engine is just downright hilarious in this kind of deck. I'm also not sure why you would run Expedite over Hammer of Purphoros, as the latter is static and can even give you more fling targets should you start to draw into excess land. And speaking of land, Command Tower>>>>>>>Rupture Spire

As for things to cut, War Elemental, Invincible Hymn, Living Inferno, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, Sunblast Angel, and Astral Cornucopia seem to be really slow cards for what they do, while cards like Stonehorn Dignitary, Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran, Bull Cerodon, Dragon Hatchling, Reroute, Wing Shards, and Desperate Ritual just look too low impact/situational to keep.

Anyway, those are just my impressions on the deck. It looks really fun and I hope you find my suggestions helpful.

Quicksilver Amulet I think would be super good in this deck! I really like this deck, and I like the price as well :D

You should really find a way to work in Adarkar Valkyrie, Reya Dawnbringer, and I play a Brion deck with Lifeline in it.

Also, you might run more theft cards, like Act of Treason, Lose Calm, Mark of Mutiny, and the like. Why fling your own creatures all the time when you can fling others? Steal a creature, attack with it, then throw it back to them. Now that's card value.

Here is the list I currently run:

Teal_Fox I love the idea of more untap abilities! Thousand-Year Elixir is definitely going in! I also love Scuttling Doom Engine! Most of what you recommended to cut I agree can go but War Elemental has been invaluable so far and as of right now still deserves a leading spot in the 99.

Poptartz95 thanks for the recommendation but Quicksilver Amulet is a bit too narrow. Also since I'm working on dropping my average cmc I see it's usefulness becoming even less. I have one tho and will play test it a bit and let you know.

bushido_man96 glad you chimed in! I've been thinking about trying Reya Dawnbringer in her just haven't given her a chance. Also Lifeline looks awesome! As far as steal cards go I'm only running a few because I don't really like them....

Thanks for the recommendations everyone once I get a few more cards I will update.

You might consider Brion's little brother, Bloodshot Cyclops. You don't get the lifegain, but if you put Thornbite Staff on him, you can sac until you run out of creatures.

That's a funny thought bushido_man96, I think it would be hilarious to chain flings together! Especially if it would be for the win. I'll try it out!

You can do the same with Brion, but at the cost of each time, so it limits the repeatability a little bit. I think Bloodshot Cyclops ends up being a great finisher, even without the lifelink.

If you're looking for more ramp, Weathered Wayfarer is pretty fabulous. Since Boros is famously poor with ramp, you'll probably always be behind at least one other player in land total, so you'll get to use him a lot. Plus, it can fetch literally any land you've got.

Also consider Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer. If you've got at least three artifacts in play (which doesn't look like it'd be a problem), all your creatures automatically get +3/+0, so they're even beefier when Brion Stoutarm flings 'em.

Thanks for the recommendations XEYeti!

I've been looking at other Boros decks and our looks like Weathered Wayfarer is a common addition to the deck. And hey if I'm somehow miraculously ahead in mana I can always throw the little guy! I will definitely be adding him!

Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer looks interesting, I will try him out. I don't typically like metalcraft but this looks like a good add!

Is there any reason in particular that you are running Codex Shredder? It doesn't seem like it has much use in this deck.

Aside from the super versatile recursion.

I play against a Melek, Izzet Paragon a lot and I love pissing him off by making him discard his shown instant or sorcery. It's actually won a game for me against him.

You culd run Sneak Attack?

May 28, 2017 4:53 a.m.

MoGoose831 says... #14

Thanks for the up votes Nixillis and CMGraves!!!

Nixillis, Sneak Attack is a great add and one of the cards I want so bad! I haven't felt the need to add it to my maybe board because it's more a matter of when, not if, it will be going in.

I think of cards you could cut, I would include Expedite, Crusader of Odric (it doesn't look like you are going to be controlling enough creatures to really make that one matter), Thunder-Thrash Elder (you want to sac creatures to Brion), and Brave the Elements (its ok, but its a once-off that I think you could find better value for that slot). That would give you some room to narrow down your maybeboard.

For an interesting option for boardwipes, you could consider False Prophet.

MoGoose831 says... #16

Thanks again bushido_man96!

Crusader of Odric and Thunder-Thrash Elder are both in here because of Entreat the Angels and will be leaving once I get a few more cards.

Expedite is only in here for the card draw and I agree it's super weak.

As for Brave the Elements, it's one of those cards I put in almost every white deck. It's saved my @$$ more times than I can count! But I can definitely see it not being as strong as other options, thanks!

I just saw False Prophet the other day. Creature + board wipe! It's awesome!

Insult / Injury

Is a nice card that prevents all those nasty counterspells and damage reductions.

Selfless Squire

Gets big enough to fling itself

Balefire Liege

pumps all of your creatures

Muster the legion!

You have a minor theme of making attacking creatures.

Sunscorch Regent

Punishes all people that plat spells all the time by making a win con.

Charging Cinderhorn

Punishes not attacking. I think you like to attack

MoGoose831 says... #18

Those are some great recommendations Draakeragon!!

I really like Selfless Squire! Flash protection and a huge creature is perfect!

Sunscorch Regent is also interesting depending on what kind of decks I'm up against. I play with a lot of aggro and an izzet spell deck so that could be an awesome deterrent.

I hear ya, MoGoose831, if its a card you like to play, then don't mind me. I know that feeling, playing a card that you just like, and has worked so well for you. That's what makes MTG great!

Draakeragon says... #20

maybe?

Slumbering Dragon

Bigger is better. You don't like getting attacked right?

That's the card!!!

I was thinking that guy would be perfect but couldn't remember his name!

Quicksilver Amulet probably wouldn't be as narrow as you think. I checked your creature count, and you had around 15 that have a 5CMC or higher. The Amulet can get those creatures down that much quicker, and in a way, it helps with mana fixing, as you turn a into a straight to get out, and if the Amulet is on the battlefield, it gets around counterspells.

First off I like the deck. I want to build brion myself cause I like boros and he seems like fun. As for suggestions I can't believe no one has said Gisela, Blade of Goldnight! Obviously, high cmc which isn't exactly what you want with brion or boros in general but her direct synergy with brion is incredible. Just by herself she's a power house. The damage reduction is huge. But the real important part here is the damage boost. First off it means you're flinging Double the damage every time you use brions ability but then you get lifelink off of that extra damage as well! The text reads "that source deals double that damage" meaning brion deals it and so lifelink is proc'd.

MoGoose831 says... #24

osniadhaigh I highly recommend Brion! He is so much fun and single handedly the reason why I got into EDH and therefore back into magic!

Im pretty sure someone mention Gisela, Blade of Goldnight and the other damage doublers, I guess they got archived? I play tested Dictate of the Twin Gods and Furnace of Rath and while they are amazing cards they became "win more" cards. They can take out one opponent easily but then make you a huge target for everyone else. Very rarely did they prove to be worth it in the end.

But..... If I was going to put one back into the deck it would definitely be Gisela! I still have a long way to go with the deck so who knows!

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight would be great as a finisher.
