ducttapedeckbox. I actually don't use Lightning Storm, I use Seismic Assault and if they do counter, then I keep playing and am kind of screwed. Normally they don't counter, because they don't suspect it. The next game, however, they will. But then I use my sideboard :). I have actually only played against like 2 control decks. But the deck is just supposed to be fun and sometimes win :). And do fun things.

I just discovered this combo Swans of Bryn Argoll with Seismic Assault you seismic assault the swans to draw more lands, the deck I saw uses it with a couple of Cascade spells

ALX That is actually pretty fun! Thanks for the suggestion. If I did that I would definitely have to change my land base, but I will look into that! Thanks! :)

Because *** counterspells.

In Playtesting it's only putting 8 cards in my library.

I think something's wrong.

misterbiscuitbarrel I have been having this problem too. I think it is because it isn't counting the full-art lands as cards. Idk it's being weird. Other decks that have full-art lands are working just fine. I don't know what's up with it. Sorry.

It worked fine for me while playtesting.

Great build, +1

Call me crazy, but I think you actually might benefit from cutting one of the Seismic Assaults in favor of (brace for it) another land.

Thanks Milkaholic! Like another Mountain?

Milkaholic says... #9

Yeah, or another reef.

It's just that you don't need more than one Seismic Assault, and (at least in my few tests) you drew more than one once the Treasure Hunts started rolling.

Island seems like a dead card in this deck. Every Island you play sets back Seismic Assault by a turn. Cascade Bluffs fixes that.

Also, I would foil out those Seismic Assault if I were you. It is technically possible to feel the side of a deck and distinguish between foils and non-foils. Some people might be suspicious if you have a combo deck where the key combo piece is a regular print with the rest of the deck being foils.

Lowenstein says... #12

Yes, bmh, I am considering that card, it's just like a bazillion dollars ://

And Milkaholic that is weird. Never heard that. How would that work? And yeah I am already working on foiling everything except the basics, I just need to save some more. Also, I like having the Islands, I know they aren't really that necessary but I think it's fine. I will also most likely be getting some foil Reefs.

Foils, by the way they are constructed, bend with the humidity. If given a stack of cards, an experienced player would be able to get a sense of where in the deck the foils are, merely by feeling the sides and noticing bends.

Foiling out the entire deck would prevent this. Most people won't care. At FNM at a LGS, no one will care. It's only an issue at a pro tournament, where foiling everything but your key combo pieces might be considered marking cards, punishable by disqualification.

The (much) more common way of dealing with this issue is by using sleeves.

Dude. Science.

Lowenstein says... #15

Well that's interesting! I do just use sleeves, and I don't really care, but that's indeed cool.

this deck is hilarious in a fun way. ummm idk who mentioned it but this mixed in with a little cascading might do some damage. thats my two cents but this deck works without cascade. will definitely make it for another fun deck to play with friends.

Not sure why you dropped down to 3x Treasure Hunt. Should stay at 4x in my opinion. Also, purpose of 2 Swans of Bryn Argoll and why only 2x? Thanks! Looks fun!

shedidthistome: I do this because if I draw two Swans, that is bad, however, if I draw two Hunts, it is good. It could be argued both ways, but I have found that this is best for me rn.

@Dr_Moosh, not sure exactly what you're trying to say? Are you arguing a point for the 3x Treasure Hunt or for the 2x Swans of Bryn Argoll?

January 5, 2015 1:35 p.m.

scholar says... #20

@Dr_Moosh, perhaps my questions weren't clear.

  1. Why did you go from 4x Treasure Hunt to 3x Treasure Hunt?
  2. Why are you playing Swans of Bryn Argoll?
  3. Why are you only choosing to play 2x copies of Swans of Bryn Argoll?
January 5, 2015 2:21 p.m.

Lowenstein says... #21

shedidthistome:

  1. I took out the Treasure Hunts so that I could have room for the Swans of Bryn Argoll. Having a lot of nonlands isn't good for me.
  2. I am playing the Swans because I can keep combing even if I get stuck on a nonland card draw.
  3. I do this because if I draw two Swans, that is bad, however, if I draw two Hunts, it is good. It could be argued both ways, but I have found that this is best for me rn.

Did that make sense? Sorry.

January 5, 2015 5:48 p.m.

I think I can explain if that wasn't clear enough. So, with Swans, it is much more difficult to fizzle, and both methods can win Turn 4. The only difference is Swans requires 2 blue and a land in hand, whereas Hunt only requires one blue. Also, if Swans does fizzle, you just go the next turn in almost all cases. However, Hunt is guaranteed to draw you a combo piece, and probably the colors you need as well. Thus, the 3-2 split was (presumably) tested and found to be best

scholar says... #23

@Dr_Moosh, so you discard a land to deal damage to Swans of Bryn Argoll and draw two more cards?
