Makes sense, never really thought about it that way.

Have you considered adding Increasing Confusion ? (Another infinite mana win)

Increasing Confusion is not really useful, though. It doesn't automatically kill an opponent and it has no purpose besides serving as an infinite mana sink. I used to run Exsanguinate , which was better as an infinite-X spell, but I cut that for the same reason: it just wasn't practical to have such a one-dimensional card.

even though it is a super good broken card, does Force of Will really as good in a tri colored deck? i was just wondering because of the exile a BLUE card. just wondering.

With 31 blue cards in the deck, I hardly ever find Force of Will to be a dead card. While it's tough to decide what to exile for its alt cost (or whether to even cast it at all), it provides a great deal of support. A 0-drop counterspell allows me to protect the boardstate and my combos without open mana. If I ran fewer blue cards, I would likely be forced to cut it.

I was wondering how useful Fact or Fiction has been. It feels underwhelming. and it seems that for 3 more mana Sphinx of Uthuun would be a better option, though still not an option that I would do.

Sphinx of Uthuun is very underwhelming because it's slow and expensive. Fact or Fiction forces my opponent to make a pressured, difficult decision and I almost always make full use of both piles via recursion. Additionally, it can be played at EoT with mana I didn't use on counterspells.

How about Jace, Architect of Thought as another Fact or Fiction option?

Jace, Architect of Thought is a weaker Fact or Fiction and its only + ability is completely irrelevant in EDH, which is kind of unfortunate. Even the -8 is underwhelming when you consider how much you need to defend Jace to use it.

Jace, Architect of Thought 's -8 could be really powerful in EDH since if you have combo pieces you could pull the other combo pieces out of other player's decks. Alas the only time I would run him is in something also running Doubling Season.

Even then, it's only alright. You need something like Doubling Season to make it viable. At the high level of competition, neither of those cards really has a place in this deck.

For sure, I said I would only run it in a deck that had Doubling Season and then most decks that I would build with Doubling Season in them wouldn't have Blue anyway.

Although Doubling Season + Gilder Bairn + Jace, the Mind Sculptor is hilarious.

I would actually run that in a more casual riku deck with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Pestermite to do it a shit ton. Make Jace go off in like a turn.

Any ideas for a land to replace Deserted Temple ?
October 29, 2012 12:52 a.m.
alexsmith21 says... #17
Maybe Ghost Quarter ? In your competitive meta, if the decks you play are similar to yours, odds are it could deal with a problem land and if they have all their basics out then it won't give them any chance to mana-fix
October 29, 2012 2:19 a.m.
Epochalyptik says... #18
The problem is that the opponent could tap the land, float mana, and then ramp off of the Ghost Quarter land. Besides, plenty of decks would jump at the chance to get another Island.

Hmm this is true. What about Maze of Ith ? It would slow down voltron decks and aggro decks. The only other good ones to replace it I can think of would be Vesuva or Gemstone Mine for mana fixing.
Halimar Depths isnt bad either

Epochalyptik says... #20
I used to play Maze of Ith , bit it lacks an inherent mana ability and it isn't great against the decks in my meta. There are rarely voltron decks or fatties swinging, and the few that do are often protected by shroud or hexproof.
Halimar Depths ETBs tapped, which makes it less than ideal for a deck that likes to ramp and then combo with fluidity. I used to play this land as well, but I took it out to speed the deck up.

Makes sense. I'd say Gemstone Mine if you want a quick mana fixer. Cephalid Coliseum for the draw effect.

What about Arcanis the Omnipotent ? I'm assuming that the reason for keeping it out is simply because protecting it till your turn would probably be pretty hard. I'm just thinking with all of the things giving it flash you can flash it in at the end of your last opponent's turn. With Seedborn Muse its 3 cards per turn. Just a thought.
October 29, 2012 1:01 p.m.
Epochalyptik says... #23
Arcanis the Omnipotent is a strong card, but it's a tad too slow. It needs to be flashed in or survive a turn cycle to work, and even then it's paying 6 mana to do something that several other cards in my deck are able to do better or earlier. It's a consideration if I need the redundancy, but I can't think of anything I would feel comfortable dropping for it.

How about Temple of the False God to replace Deserted Temple . I know that it does have the downside of being slow at first, but with the amount of ramp in the deck you shouldn't have a problem after turn 3 or so with it. It doesn't replace the ability of the temple, but that ability seems slow anyway. I think in the end you'll get far more ramp out of the temple of the false god.

I really like the Deserted Temple if not to do anything but use Boseiju, Who Shelters All twice.

Snapcaster Mage and Eternal Witness . Spell Crumple is effectively useless after the first resolution because I'll never get a second use out of it. I have some graveyard recursion, so putting Hinder in my yard will allow me to capitalize on it.
