Hmm. Perhaps Alchemist's RefugeMTG Card: Alchemist's Refuge? It's a lot of fun in EDH and, considering the fact that you constantly have a fat hand, the element of surprise would only benefit you. It's also one fetch with Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan (after Cabal CoffersMTG Card: Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of YawgmothMTG Card: Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, of course).

I've been considering Alchemist's RefugeMTG Card: Alchemist's Refuge, but I don't know if I can tax the land base with any more lands that can't produce colored mana. The Leyline of AnticipationMTG Card: Leyline of Anticipation and Vedalken OrreryMTG Card: Vedalken Orrery seem to be doing enough to provide constant flash without a mana investment to activate.

If Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan ends up getting banned from EDH, then I'll have to drop Cabal CoffersMTG Card: Cabal Coffers and Alchemist's RefugeMTG Card: Alchemist's Refuge will very likely replace it.

Is Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan being considered for banning? I know people have been bitching about it ever since it came out (EDH is where it's best, IMHO), but I haven't heard of anything 'official', per se.

Yeah. I hope it isn't banned; the format needs a good nonbasic land tutor. Without Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan there are plenty of great utility lands that would never see play because there just wouldn't be a practical way to find them.

look on the bright side, Expedition MapMTG Card: Expedition Map will probably go up 10 cents or so in price

Expedition MapMTG Card: Expedition Map is cool, but Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan just sets the bar for non-basic fetching. Aside from ScapeshiftMTG Card: Scapeshift (which arguably needs to be built around anyways), no one card has ever done so much to support the plethora of utility lands open to EDH players.

I don't think it's too good, by any means. It's definitely a top-50-EDH-cards kinda card. But people don't really bitch about Ulamog, the Infinite GyreMTG Card: Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre and I honestly think he's better and does more for you.

I think a lot of the argument is coming from the players who say PrimeTime warps the format around himself. It needs to be countered or cast and he needs to be cloned or killed, etc.

I personally don't agree with that philosophy. Does it create an advantage? Absolutely, and that's why it's in the deck. You could say that about any card in a well-built deck, though. I've seen plenty of games where a player has resolved a Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan and lost the game. It's not a sure-fire sign that someone's going to win. It does a lot to help its controller's board position, but I don't think being able to fetch nonbasics is grounds for banning. It's grounds for staying if anything.

if anything needs to be banned it has to be Storm CrowMTG Card: Storm Crow imo. people tremble in its sight, but wizards is to scared because it might comeback for revenge

btw have you ever tried Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith? im no expert on edh but i kinda like being able to wrath alot of times

Black Sun's ZenithMTG Card: Black Sun's Zenith is a good card but it's too mana-intensive when you need to kill bigger creatures. If I'm investing 8 mana on a kill spell, I'm expecting an additional effect like that of Decree of PainMTG Card: Decree of Pain or Plague WindMTG Card: Plague Wind.

but it doesnt seem too hard once you have Cabal CoffersMTG Card: Cabal Coffers and [urbog, tomb of yawgmoth] out.. but you have a point there.

Somce this deck seems largely competitive, have you considered Sorin MarkovMTG Card: Sorin Markov? I'm sure I don't have to explain why he's good in EDH.

Sure, he's pretty Black-intensive, but you have plenty of mana fixing in here and should have no problem dropping him by at least the fifth or sixth turn.

On a different note, I'd also consider VoidslimeMTG Card: Voidslime, Edric, Spymaster of TrestMTG Card: Edric, Spymaster of Trest, and AbundanceMTG Card: Abundance (I particularly love the last suggestion, as it prevents you from drawing dead land cards late-game OR makes sure you reach your land-drops early-game).

Damn. VoidslimeMTG Card: Voidslime's already in here. This is what I get for not wearing contacts and having to sit literally 6 inches from my computer screen.

May 18, 2012 12:59 p.m.

Sorin MarkovMTG Card: Sorin Markov is good, but I don't think the deck really has an application for him. The infinite ExsanguinateMTG Card: Exsanguinate/CapsizeMTG Card: Capsize combos don't really care about what opponents' life totals are and casting Sorin would divert resources I need to set up for them.

Edric, Spymaster of TrestMTG Card: Edric, Spymaster of Trest is a political card and I doubt it would save me or help me all that much when it comes to actual games. Most players recognize that I am a threat and focus on me regardless. If they don't, then I'm usually able to work my way around the field psychologically without needing to give my opponents extra cards in a multiplayer game.

AbundanceMTG Card: Abundance is certainly an interesting suggestion and something I will have to consider. I'll play a few games and see if there's ever a time when having it would have been more advantageous than not having it and I'll probably end up trying it out.

May 18, 2012 1:32 p.m.

VesuvaMTG Card: Vesuva maybe?

May 18, 2012 5:50 p.m.

Vampiric TutorMTG Card: Vampiric Tutor is already in the deck.

Liliana of the VeilMTG Card: Liliana of the Veil and Garruk, Primal HunterMTG Card: Garruk, Primal Hunter seem very limited in application and clunky to use. I used to have the latter in a very early incarnation of the deck and found that it wasn't really doing much for me.

Mana Crypt is banned in EDH. Otherwise, great build. +1

May 24, 2012 6:02 p.m.

Mana Crypt is most certainly not banned in EDH. It's a staple card in this format.

May 24, 2012 6:08 p.m.

lol @ hdog questioning the EDH master around TpdOut,

my question is this.

as i was playtesting your deck, i always was left with fetch/pain lands in my hand with nothing to search for seeing that the 3 basic lands in your deck are already out on the board (due to your large amount of other search lands). dont you want to minimize that a little and be able to use all your lands? im sure you have a reason for doin this but i just dont see it.

May 29, 2012 1:27 a.m.

thx zandl, very very funny.

i meant that you have a ton of pain lands. just when i was testing, i was left with lands that had nothing to search for.

May 29, 2012 9:40 a.m.

I have never had a problem with having too many fetches since they can find duals, shocks, and basics. What turn are you playtesting to?

May 29, 2012 3:39 p.m.

well, i just made a mistake dude. i didnt realize they can find shocks... lol.. didnt read them. sorry dude. but if i were to make a budget version of this, any suggestions for teh land base?
