Also, I am actually surprised that you have not replaced counterspell with Mana Drain

Time Stop ? Card's pretty broken, IMHO, since you can do it in the Upkeep.
Other than that, I really have nothing in mind. Everything I could suggest is either in here already or is outclassed by something else.

@squire1 : I run both Counterspell and Mana Drain . I love 2-drop counterspells. I don't really play enough spells to destroy a board with Tidespout Tyrant , so the 8 mana price tag seems heavy. I considered Diabolic Revelation when I saw it spoiled, but it costs 6 to tutor one card. It's just a bit too expensive. My only justification for running the also-expensive Increasing Ambition is because I can cast it to find Tooth and Nail , then Tooth and Nail into an infinite combo and flash back Increasing Ambition for a win-con.
@zandl: Time Stop is always in the back of my mind, but I never know what I want to drop for it. I'm on the verge of cutting Pernicious Deed for it. Any thoughts on that?

Good call I didn't see th drain first time through. I would give revelation a try though. When your back is too the wall late game it has a huge impact.

Pernicious Deed would seem to me to just be an "okay" kind of card in EDH. Sure, you can kill off a bunch of shit in one fell swoop, but Time Stop kills Combo decks dead, Time Walk s in 1vs1, and can really screw someone out of an otherwise amazing turn.
And nobody ever sees Time Stop coming.

I think it depends how you use Pernicious Deed most of the time. If it winds up just being another Maelstrom Pulse in your deck it might not be worth it since its really not that steller of a card in that capacity

I usually never cast it. I play the mirror match more than anything else and it seems to be kind of dead in hand. Even in nonmirrors, it's still a conditional card. It takes mana up at sorcery speed to cast and it only really blows out tokens. On the rare occasion that I get outramped by rocks or creatures it does prove useful, but it also doesn't show up many of those times. Pernicious Deed is a great card, but it just hasn't had its moment of glory in this deck yet.
In contrast, a Time Stop bought at upkeep with Boseiju, Who Shelters All seems brutal. In multiplayer, I can flash in Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir on one player's turn and Time Stop the other to lock their options out.

I've been working on a budget version of this deck for casual play. Almost all of the $10+ cards are gone and replaced with some cheaper cards that have a similiar effect. Some are still in there, as I felt they were needed. Could you take a look to see where I can improve it while still holding it as budget as possible?

I'm strongly considering adding Exploration and Phantasmal Image . Necropotence is also up for consideration, but less so than the others.

I'm also considering cutting Exsanguinate . The friend that I've been codesigning this list with (we each play a variant of it) was pointing out to me earlier that card:Blue Sun's Zenith will often be just as reliable a kill spell, even in multiplayer.

One of your control interactions is using Mana Web and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth . You might want to add Pendrell Mists to that so they have to tap out during their upkeep or lose all their creatures.

I find that most of my matchups aren't reliant on creatures, but it's an interesting thought. I need to figure out of the effect is really worth dedicating a slot to over something like Exploration .

Also an alternative would be the Tabernacle, if you have the money :D

I would consider it, but The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale has no inherent mana ability. I would need Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth out and it would also force me to pay for my own creatures, which hinders their utility.

Also, I understand that deadeye navigator is really powerful, but it seems that you rely possibly a bit too much on it, as it is part of almost every one of your engines and win conditions. I used to run it in my Sliver Queen deck, because of its interaction with etb creatures, but it didnt always have a soul mate, so alone it was pretty useless. Plus it would get removed basically instantly by the entire table haha.
But I really like that you cut the cards you did--as an example, Sphinx of Magosi is so underwhelming in this deck. And Life from the Loam is amazing. I've been trying to find a spot for it in my big creature deck but I probably won't be able to, and that makes me sad.

Phantasmal Image is going in as an alternative to Deadeye Navigator in making infinite mana with Palinchron . Some of the recursive loops work without Deadeye Navigator , they're just harder to pull off. I would say that I currently rely on Palinchron more than Deadeye Navigator .
August 18, 2012 6:26 p.m.
Ok that makes sense. Have you thought about an additional "land-untapper" such as Peregrine Drake , so your combos don't get shot when the main piece goes missing? Although I'm sure when Palinchron is being played you have as much countermagic backup as possible anyways.

Peregrine Drake lacks the self-bouncing ability of Palinchron , which makes it a lot weaker. The Drake would be a completely dead card without Deadeye Navigator , which makes it a lot less appealing.
There is an infinite turn combo in the deck that works without Palinchron and can work without Deadeye Navigator .

And I know this is a colorless-producing land, but I've seen card:Alchemist's Refuge be killer in combo decks, especially with Seedborn Muse

Yea that's certainly true. Okie dokie, just bouncing some ideas around :-)

card:Alchemist's Refuge is already in the list.
It never hurts to make a suggestion. Considering all options is how great decks get built.

I am really liking Tidespout Tyrant and Diabolic Revelation in my edh. They might work well for you here. Diabolic Revelation in particular.
