Rolled up comments.

I just recently acquired 4x Arcbound Ravager s and with them a play set of Disciple of the Vault . With the ravager as a sac outlet I'd like to add those disciples in.

Thoughts?

Disciple of the Vault isn't needed in the modern variation of Affinity; as it gears towards stealing early wins by being overly aggressive. Plus, taking out Signal Pest would make games where you don't see Cranial Plating much worse. Also, taking out Vault Skirge would be bad, as pairing it up with Cranial Plating makes its lifelink near impossible to race.

Have you considered Master of Etherium , since your geared towards blue already?

I have considered Master of Etherium as I used to have him for Arcbound Ravager but I found that a cmc of 3 was just a bit too much to ask. Also, ravager pairs better with Etched Champion better than Master of Etherium .

Spot removal and generic damage to all creatures (like a Pyroclasm ) really hurts this deck, I would definitely recommend Steel Overseer or a Master of Etherium .

Spot removal and mass damage really hurt any aggro deck. However, Arcbound Ravager can ensure that I get the most out of a bad situation.

For example, you cast Pyroclasm and I use him to gobble up anything that wouldn't survive thus allowing him to survive. If you cast Doom Blade I'd simply eat your target. If your target is him then I can sac him to his own ability and move the counters to something relevant like Etched Champion . Master of Etherium and Steel Overseer don't provide that kind of flexibility.

Up until recently I was running Master of Etherium and he was fine but easily blocked and easily dealt with. While Arcbound Ravager is still easy to block it's kind of like trying to nail jello to the wall as I can, at will, shift counters to an unblocked creature like Vault Skirge .

Finally, a single Master of Etherium doesn't help against mass damage. He would put their toughness at 2 which still dies to a lot of removal like Pyroclasm .

-1 Memnite +1 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas .

Memnite is expendable whereas Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas is a powerhouse, oftentimes -4ing for a 10 point shift or more. (Most times his -4 is a solid win.)

I highly recommend some Nim in here they are absolutely a blast to play with! Back with my Mirrodin Affinity deck they would just beat down the opponent and you don't need those plates to make tem lethal. Nim Lasher Nim Shrieker Mephitic Ooze Hunger of the Nim Runng Blue I'd say Broodstar would love to be here he'd nearly always be uber cheap with affinity and hitting hard.

Obviously I know that however it's is always good to have a back up plan, you could not have the lands, you could have the artifact destroyed

The Nim are not artifacts so that hurts my game plan, the Nim are also slow. I already have 2 backup plans. Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas turns control decks into Swiss Cheese by letting me essentially draw 2 cards per turn, then ult him continuously and Inkmoth Nexus dodges sorcery speed removal and, when strapped with a Cranial Plating or hit by Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas ' -2 OR Arcbound Ravager 's Modular counters, can end the game in 1-2 swings.

So, I was solitareing this to show some people at my local shop how affinity plays. It's been a while since I've played it so as I'm playing I get out Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas and +1 him. Next turn I ult him, declaring 7 life lost. Someone corrected me about the fact that he states that the number for X is 2 times the artifacts not 1 times and I was blown away.

I had forgotten what his Ult does and it makes me love Tezzeret so much more.

Paradise Mantle is as close as you're going to get but it's REALLY sub par.

Ohthenoises do you think this build is as good as net deck affinity decks? and if so, why?

June 29, 2014 10:45 p.m.

tyforthevenom says... #16

i'd say Paradise Mantle is more a replacement for Springleaf Drum at best

tyforthevenom Springleaf Drum is much better. It doesn't care about haste and it doesn't have to be equipped.

+1 from me.

If you want to beat Burn, Dragon's Claw is a thing. If your opponents run Vandalblast/Shatterstorm, then the best thing to do is probably to just ignore it and beat them before they land those cards (which, incidentally, are terrible in Burn.) Even if they do somehow resolve a Shatterstorm or Vandalblast, Hangarback tokens+manlands can probably clean up on the next turn. They should be Bolting your Vault Skirges, but if they hit anything else, you're probably fine. Ravager can often eat them for a counter, and they really can't afford to lose that much gas, because you win the topdeck war (Cranial Plating > literally anything they can do.)

Ensoul Artifact is really cool, and I'm running it in my current affinity deck. My meta is mostly other Affinity, Infect, Jund, and the occasional other thing. Ensoul can give you a 5/5 flying lifelink or otherwise swinging on turn 2. The god hand for this version is Darksteel Citadel, Ornithopter, Mox Opal, Vault Skirge, Ensoul Artifact, Springleaf Drum and Arcbound Ravager. You can play Vault Skirge with Ensoul on it turn 1, and on turn 2 you can play Ravager, sac everything to Ravager other than your 5/5 Vault Skirge, swing with a 10/10 Vault Skirge on turn 2. You may be lucky enough to draw a Welding Jar. Will they blow it up before you can do this? Put Ensoul on Darksteel Citadel. Path to Exile? Stick it on your smallest guy. You still have Etched Champions and Steel Overseers for your additional bombs, along with Ravager and Plating. Ensoul Artifact mixes it up a bit for me and I really like how it plays in Affinity.

Ensoul is good and I've played it before. The problem is, in burn heavy metas auras aren't very good since every creature we play dies to their burn and gets easily 2:1ed. (Even Etched Champion, damn Kozilek's Return...)

In those matches we don't really want to be casting Ensoul Artifact and then getting our target Bolted in response. It's pretty feels-bad.

This is why I'm leaning on Master of Etherium a little more.
