Don Don: A Mono White Dandan Variant

Don Don is a mono white variant of Dandan (aka Forgetful Fish), built around the creature Loxodon Peacekeeper.

The format focuses on managing life totals to control the Loxodon Peacekeeper, while timing your moves to eliminate your opponent without losing control of the board. The deck contains cards that manipulate life totals, such as pain lands and spells that give life to target players.

Rules

  • This is a 2-player only format.
  • Both players share a single 80-card mono-white deck.
  • Both players share a single graveyard.
  • All other normal rules apply (e.g., players start with 20 life and 7 cards in hand, normal win/lose conditions apply, etc.).

Core Mechanics and Cards

  • Loxodon Peacekeeper: The deck contains 10 copies of Loxodon Peacekeeper. This creature switches control between players based on who has the lowest life total. Players must balance lowering their life total to gain control while maintaining enough life to avoid elimination.

  • Alternative Win Condition: The deck contains 2 copies of Celestial Convergence, which acts as a counterbalance to Loxodon Peacekeeper. It incentivizes players to aim for the highest life total and places a 7-turn clock on the game, breaking stalled board states.

  • Life Burst: The deck contains 6 copies of Life Burst. Its power scales with the number of copies in the graveyard, which is shared between players. This card enables significant life swings, with its impact depending on whether you target yourself or your opponent.

  • Light of Promise: The deck contains 2 copies of Light of Promise, which allows lifegain spells to rapidly pump a Loxodon Peacekeeper. However, this can backfire if gaining life causes you to lose control of the Peacekeepers.

  • Boros Fury-Shield: The deck includes 2 copies of Boros Fury-Shield. Although the deck is mono-white, red mana sources are included to activate Boros Fury-Shield's second ability, allowing combat damage to be redirected to your opponent. This card is particularly useful against a Loxodon Peacekeeper enchanted with Light of Promise.
