Alright, so the latest greatest thing around shop has been Tiny Leaders. This is the decklist that I'm currently running.
The deck's primary objective is to ramp as fast as possible into one of the big three hydras. From there its hydra beat down until you win. There are some mana doublers and spot removal thrown in, along with some smaller guys to soak up damage while you work on getting your monsters out.
An ideal win is around turn 6 or 7 where you've used Signal the Clans to pull out Primordial Hydra, Savageborn Hydra, and/or Apocalypse Hydra. It doesn't matter which you end up with, as each one should be enough to win you the game all by it's lonesome. By this point you should have at least six lands with some mana dorks/doublers to give you a hydra at around 6+ counters. Each hydra has a unique ability, but the game is pretty much done by this point. If they answer the hydra, you're probably going to lose anyway. I'm experimenting with Eidolon of the Great Revel as it will always trigger in this format. We'll see if it helps or hurt but I'm expecting to get some decent usage out of it.
Alright, now for the sideboard. My meta has a lot of artifact and enchantment heavy decks (
Daxos of Meletis
and
Teysa, Orzhov Scion
specifically), so my side board is pretty stacked with artifact and enchantment hate, which gruul fortunately has the best of. Anger of the Gods gets an honorable mention for those heavy token/tribal swarm strategies that will out pace your hydras. I know Anger of the Gods takes out my mana dorks too, but if you have to play it, a 4/4 hydra is MORE than enough to bulldoze its way through a bunch of little 1/1s, especially given our hydras abilities. Also
Vexing Shusher
and Guttural Response are thrown in to try and deal with counterspells.
Anyway, I hope you like it! It's an exciting new format, and I hope to see more development with it later on!
