Near perfection, I feel it —Oct. 9, 2014

After a long consideration, I realized that I don't need the 1877/1875 creature with double lifelink, double strike and flying to win. Little things are the best, so I decided to keep only useful creatures with mana cost < 4. Wall of Reverence is under testing, but I think it's a good addiction. Drogskol Reaver and Sovereigns of Lost Alara are officially out. I think that now, also with the charms I added, this deck is becoming what I ever wanted - Powerful, solid and balanced. Let me know what you think! :D

I really dig this deck! it seems so powerful and at a great budget price! I may consider trying to build a version of it for myself! +1

Nice progress here. Like it a lot. Some suggestions from elaborating with my own spirit deck Spirit Super Aggro

Terashi's Grasp might be a nice sideboard option being an arcane spell and also has lifegain which this deck likes.

Prison Term , since your mana base is mostly white I think its slightly better than Arrest

I really love those two cards! Thanks! Prison Term will obviously take the place of Arrest . Terashi's Grasp added in the sideboard!

I'm just wondering how long you're going to survive the turns leading up to your extreme escalation combo when you don't get an ideal hand. Faith's shield requires you to get dangerously low on health before it protects yourself, your other spells are single target for 3 mana. Maybe some Vapor Snag or other standard blue tempo spells could be useful, or more lands, because I think 21 is too little for an average CMC of 2.75.

The combo is pretty sick but I don't think it has enough support to pull it off, even with the tutoring from Tallowisps.

It may be hard to believe, but I never found myself in a situation like the one you described. With the Drogskol Captain , even my Tallowisp can become a nice 2/4 defense with hexproof on 3rd turn (and if I get 2 captains out, every spirit i control is protected). I use Faith's Shield only to protect my permanents: creatures and enchantments. Also, don't forget the control aspect of this deck, I can get many Prison Term s to control my opponent's biggest creatures, and if some creatures can still hit me, I'll gain the life I lost later. Even without an ideal hand, playing aggro simply with Spirit Loop + Latch Seeker can give me the time I need to build my combo. Trust me, this deck may not be the fastest or the most explosive, but can sustain the game very well.

I was talking about the fateful hour aspect where it also protects you as player. I guess I just had bad luck when playtesting this against myself, but there are quite a few decks that can combo you out around turn 4. Maybe you can stall them a turn or two, but in the time I tested this, that was not enough. I'll try it out some more, but I think having a few hindering cards costing less than 3 mana would be beneficial.

Awesome, unique deck, +1! I quite agree with Subject134127, this deck does run pretty low on lands, and cards like Vapor Snag are prob more of the lower cost cards you want to run alongside your higher cost cards (most of your cards start running on turn 3). Echoing Truth is a good card. Condemn is good too, and neat in that it can potentially help you save one of your creatures from removal and also help you gain life.

Faith's Shield , you can prob slide down to 3x, not sure if you need a full set of em, and Rest for the Weary is in most cases better than Whitesun's Passage . And if you can make the upgrade, Detention Sphere is better than Oblivion Ring , and it's not too much of a price difference between the two.

Great deck, def love the uniqueness of this deck. Just giving suggestions to help make it even better by covering early game tempo.

First of all, thank you for the comments! I'm really thinking about modify my deck adding some protection like the ones you suggested me. I think I'll remove all the Faith's Shield s, since I used them only a few times, adding 2x Azorius Charm and 2x Condemn .

I also want to add a pair of Wall of Reverence or maybe Sovereigns of Lost Alara . What you think about these changes? thank you again for the suggestions, they're great! :)

Azorius Charm is a always a good one! That reminded me of Dawn Charm .

First of all, know what kind of deck you want to play. So know that if you're playing Wall of Reverence , it obviously can't attack lol, but just think to yourself if you need a defender out there (4cmc at that!) that won't be able to attack, over whatever creature you would be taking out for it. With your unblockables-aggro style, not sure if a defender is needed, something you have to playtest yourself.

That also brings me with Drogskol Reaver . Yeah, it's a very flashy, fun card that is obviously star to your combo and whole deck and title, but how often do you get it out? I tend to stay away from large cmc cards unless I can stall out the game or ramp my mana to play it earlier with whatever deck is being used. So again, think if Drogskol is essential, or if there's cheaper cards to play that will help you win faster. I'd go with the latter, as I think it'll make your deck THAT much better. I know the Johnny in you says it's hard to move that zany combo, and it's prob where you got quite a good amount of +1s too, but moving forward with this deck, if you want to make this deck win faster, then I think the Drogskol Reaver is not that essential. In this case, you can fit Sovereigns of Lost Alara in there to fill in that late game slot if you want - something for you to playtest and decide.

And to fill the draw void you wouldn't get from Drogskol, seriously add in Curious. It can be tutored by Tallowisp and god damn, those draws will come easily with your unblockables. You can see how by forgoing that late game bulky 7cmc creature, you can create earlier plays to win faster (such as with using Curious for one simple instance.) This is all my opinion and suggestion, up to you how much you want to implement, since this would require drastic change! Good luck with it!

Continuing... For instance, your 'Ideal Hand' play in your description does not even mention Drogskol Reaver . And it looks like you want your deck to play and win fast - turn 5 at that, not on turn 8 or 9, which is when Drogskol Reaver can start doing his damage the earliest. Speed over late game style looks like what you want your deck to be like. Food for thought!

Sorry for the triple post, forgot to add something I wanted to say. So having a Drogskol Reaver in your opening hand or drawing it early game is probably the LAST thing you want to have, and something smaller that would help you work towards a quicker win is probably more favourable.

Also, I just thought of a suggestion! Looks like this could be an enchantment heavy deck, but the con with enchantment decks that you solve easily, is being able to protect your creatures, and you're able to do that with Drogskol Captain . So, Ethereal Armor can be a real game winner once tutored with Tallowisp , and slapped on to a likely already huge unblockable for the finish, niceeee.

Unfortunately due to the wording of Spirit Loop , it apparently can't be tutored for with Tallowisp . Thought you should know the rulings since you said you wanted to do Modern FNMs

mr_spooner: I have to thank you again! Your comments are really useful.. I'll think about Drogskol Reaver and the other stuff today, and I'll comment soon!

gmars: you're totally right.. I should replace it with something else. Maybe Spirit Link , it also costs less, should fit better in my mana curve. Thanks!
