200 UPVOTES! —Aug. 20, 2016

Once again, I thank all the people that made this possible. If this deck is what it is now, it's because of your great help!

Congrats Javaz on the best Spirit deck on the site!

Thought you should know, I took my version of your deck to my buddies house this weekend and destroyed him and his friends for the better part of the weekend.. ;)

Hydrax, patro_junior: Thaanks a lot! :D

R3ruN: Thanks :D I'm so glad you had fun with this deck ;)

Enderbrony, Zaueski: Invocation of Saint Traft is actually pretty good, but I think it could "reduce" the lifegain/counters flavour of the deck. Anyway, I'll make some playtest for sure. Thanks! :)

Javaz, have you given any thought to Bygone Bishop adding some draw power to the deck?

Kira, Great Glass-Spinner and Kataki, War's Wage are great sideboard spirits!

brambleman: That's pretty good, but it seems a bit too slow for modern. I'd have to pay 3 + 2 or more + 2 to get a single card.. It could be nice with the captain, but it'd break my curve. I don't know, but I'll make some playtest for sure. Thank a lot!

R3ruN: They are awesome sideboard cards, but Kira alone doubles the price of this deck, since it's currently about 30 bucks lol

This deck looks amazing. Very well done on this one. You were so helpful on my earlier deck; would you mind checking out my newest one, Extreme vampire B/R synergy?

I think you're patting yourself on the back a little too early...

You're running an average curve with only 21 lands. Nobody who plays competitively would agree with that. You're also running a tribal deck without Cavern of Souls. I understand that this may be a "budget" deck, but at this point, calling it the "best" is a bit premature. I can't fathom a competitive Spirits deck without Geist of St. Traft. (Geist has dropped in price significantly by the way.) The "best" Blue/White Spirits deck will run Flooded Strands, Hallowed Fountains, Celestial Colonnades. The "best" budget dual color mana base can't afford to run less than 24 lands.

Like I said in the update, this is the best Spirit deck in score and views. This deck isn't meant to have staple cards and regularly win tournaments, it's the result of a very long work on a budget basis. So, it obviously isn't at the level of decks that run Path, Geist or Cavern, but I think I can say I fully reached the goal of building the best Spirit budget deck possible for <30$, and this is because of all the awesome appreciation I got from the community in the past two years. Best means this: Fun, full of ideas and creativity. This makes the deck the best one, not it's power level.

jonmaior How does it fair against... anything else but blue control?

June 3, 2016 10:18 a.m.

jonmaior says... #18

fairly well actually, it's still decent aggro no matter what.

June 3, 2016 10:39 a.m.

Javaz says... #19

jonmaior I could easily build a deck focused against each green deck, and say a green deck doesn't stand a chance against my deck to every green player I find on the site. What's the point?Maybe in a tournament you'll beat my deck but lose all other games, while I'll have a better matchup and win more games than you.

Or maybe considering it's a fun budget deck, the goal is to have fun, and win some/lose some along the way!

Exactly.

Removed 2x Detention Sphere from the main, added 1x Temporal Isolation and 1x Blessed Breath. Sphere is powerful but the 3 mana slot is already full. Isolation adds more protection against aggro (a meta call) and the playset of Breath increases the chances to trigger Tallowisp.

2x Drogskol Captain + Azorius Herald with the three main enchantments on it is absolutely hilarious. Ridiculously high unblockable hexproof damage with lifelink. Should come with the disclaimer that you may lose friends playing this deck.

June 20, 2016 1:34 a.m.

Javaz says... #25

slaftergames unfortunately, Vigil is a little too costly to be effective. Thanks for the input!

Skettihigh yeah that just makes me feel so good. Only me. Not my friends. You know what's even better? Drogskol Reaver. Add Sunbond and Lifelink, and you get a 10000/10000 flying double strike monstrosity in a few turns lol
