Land base will be built in once I have finalized my selection for this deck! Thank you everyone who contributes to this.

If you are going for ents lose the walls and wall support. Get some power based board wipes like fell the mighty. Add some mana rocks like selesnya, golgari, orzhov signet, and chromatic lantern. Add some full board protection like heroic intervention. If you are willing to spend some money get ensnaring bridge, swords to plowshares, path of exile, damnation, wrath of god, boundless realms, genesis wave, and tutors. Thats all the suggestions I have other than dual lands and any color lands. fetches are over priced and only add some filtering.

Thank you for the input! I am going for Ents so I understand your suggestions about the wall replacements. I mostly go for more creature heavy decks and since there is a limited amount of Treefolk, I wanted other creatures that would benefit from Doran. Definitely agree on some better mana rocks and protection stuff. I am mostly going for a pillowfort style and less aggressive overall.

I don't mind the walls honestly. I mean yea if you want the Ent flavor then yea trade them out, but they're good card draw and they fill out the assault formation tactic. The only one i would take out would be Wall of reverence because most of your creatures will have low power so it's not gonna get any value during play.

The main reason I had put in Wall of Reverence was due to the flying defense, but I understand your reasoning! I have made a few changes that I need to update on here, but since you mentioned it, I traded out Wall of Reverence for Aurification to give me a different kind of defense!

Hey fair enough haha and yea if you're looking for defense you'll get more value out of running Aurification as a pillow for defense than Wall of Reverence. Still a cool deck for sure I've been wanting to build a Doran EDH for a while and this deck has a decent framework for what I'm planning. so +1 from me.

Awesome thank you! I am the same way! I basically just looked up all of the Treefolk deck that match with Doran and went from there. Once you get finished with yours, share it with me and I will upvote!

Got some changes that I need to update on this. Had several losses to artifact heavy decks, so I made some adjustments to add more artifact removal. Maybe even throwing in some Merciless Eviction eventually.

Having played against this deck, i would like to suggest:

Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper

also, unless you are going for total treefolk tribal, there are many better cards that could replace a lot of the weaker treefolk.

Yes I would like that card in this deck! I will look into obtaining it. I was going for tribal treefolk with walls as a back up theme. What else would you suggest for this deck?

And actually I have made several changes to this deck including more removal spells. I will update the deck asap.

Thank you! And if you are referring to Belligerent Brontodon, yes he is now in this deck! I just haven't had the time to make the updates to this deck. I also just bought Behind the Scenes to add to this deck! Seems like skulk is a perfect fit for Doran.

nice! also, I would suggest that you update the manabase - half of the cards in your deck require green mana, which you only have 10 of. Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, and some others would do.

First of all, Doran is great! He has a neat global effect that changes the game for everybody and is putting everyone into the thinking tank, I really enjoy that about edh.

Some things I noticed:

  • You have a very high mana curve without much action during your first turns (spot removal, draw, ramp).

  • Your mana base is budget and can be slower than your opponents', but you don't have much flexibility either. In most Abzan decks you want your WBG mana on turn 3. Evolving Wilds,Terramorphic Expanse and/or Vivid Marsh(...meadow, ...grove) and Command Tower are just cheap no-brainers here. The green ramp staples can also help you of achieving the turn 3 WBG.

  • Draw: You have very little and you should aim for around ~8 minimum to give you card advantage. Phyrexian Arena and Lifecrafter's Bestiary are extremely good.

  • Abzan is great for any kind of recursion you might need. If your Playgroup/Opponent is full of removal and boardwipes, you either want to increase your protection or stack up on reanimation/recursion.

  • Retribution of the Meek is one of a few "one-sided" boardwipes you can play in Doran.

I completely agree that it needs a better mana curve as well as some card draw. The recursion has never been too strong to me since this deck is not as centered around that. I have some protection stuff like Shield of the Oversoul and Dominaria's Judgment which helps protect Doran and others.

I bought some cards to help with the mana curve and card draw, but I had never seen Retribution of the Meek so that is definitely making it into this deck! Thanks for the suggestions!

Added in Zetalpa, Primal Dawn for a major player late game. Got this at the pre-release!

Have you considered playing Odric, Lunarch Marshal to maximize your combat efficiency?

Great deck. Love me some Doran. The land count and fixing seems a little low with only one or two alternate mana generators. Do you find you you are able to cast everything on time and later cast two or three spells per turn in the late game?

Consider maybe cutting some of the walls you find that are underperforming (based on your meta) and getting your mana generation up to 34 or 35 cards. Axebane Guardian is great with so many Defenders. With all of your auras you could also consider adding a couple of the aura tutoring creatures (Totem-Guide Hartebeest and Heliod's Pilgrim are two of my favourite Doran friendly creatures) to get your key auras when you want them and then something like Nylea's Presence which can fix your mana, cantrip, turn Manigoth into an unblockable monster and in a pinch, give an opponent a forest if you have any other forest walkers to swing with.

That new dino is awesome but does seem a like a bit of a nombo with a low power/high toughness theme.

Whoops never mind about that dino. I had it confused with the green. Zetalpa is straight awesome!

StumpyIB says... #24

Thanks for the suggestions! I have thought before about adding Odric and after looking into it more, I think he really would fit the deck! As for the Aura tutors, I only have 3 Auras total in this deck so far that I just don't feel like these would be worth it. But I will try them out and see how it goes!
