klone13, I could probably win a duel on T3, but I'm inclined to play for an 8-turn game or so based on my meta.

The only thing I can do with that toughness is use Doran to beat people to death with it. That doesn't work if they can chump block.

klone13: just remember, some of those cards (like Crucible of Worlds and Grim Monolith are upwards of $3 which is currently over 1/10 of the total deck price.

Bulwer: With an optimised ramp suite, you'll find you can start knocking players out turn 6-7 which, depending on your meta will be when players are still in their setup phase and aren't ready for you (which is when you want to strike).

Ooh, it just occurred to me that I can easily cut Whispersilk Cloak for the trample. Shroud screws up my ability to target during the combo, so it has to sit on something else (or the ground) until the end, and I've gotta save mana for it. Much better and cheaper to run Rancor or Primal Rage.

OK, let's optimize the ramp suite. :)

Here's the current setup:
Birds of Paradise
Joraga Treespeaker
Sakura-Tribe Elder
Cultivate
Kodama's Reach
Skyshroud Claim
Oracle of Mul Daya
Crop Rotation
Reap and Sow

I've got a Courser of Kruphix and all the standard cheap green basic land fetchers. Yavimaya Elder, maybe?

enpc, I could make room for both Primal Rage and Rancor. Just had to cut Nylea and the Cloak. :)

I don't like Yavimaya Elder. He's not actually ramp. The lands go to hand. And on top of that, its your entire turn 3 nad half your turn 4 mana taken up (and if he's the first or even second actuall card you've played, you'll find you have to discard since your hand size went up by 3).

As for the other, a Nature's Lore would be right at home. You've also got Sol Ring, don't forget about that. Maybe Harrow could be good as it helps land fix. I think you should look into getting your hands on the shock lands (Temple Garden, Overgrown Tomb and Godless Shrine) as while they are a bit more expensive they will really help with fixing from cards like Nature's Lore and Skyshroud Claim. Of cards to splash some cash for, mana base is never a bad idea.

Skyshroud Claim out, Nature's Lore in-- green mana is gonna matter a lot less after turn 4 anyway.

I love what this is going to the mana curve graph.

Yeah, the curve will start pushing left and the average cmc dropping is a good feeling.

One thing though - Skyshroud Claim is amazing. I wouldn't cut it. Even though most ofthe stuff you need is lower cost, if you can get a turn 1 birds or something a turn 3 sSkyshroud Claim lets you setup for your combo turn much more easily as you have to mana to play multiple pieces at once. not to mention it strips 2 lands from the deck straight into play untapped.

Yeah Skyshroud Claim is a very nifty card. Definitely keep it.

Easy decision, then-- that's what I'm cutting Avenger of Zendikar for, as sad as that makes me.

Oh, and Glissa is out in favor of Wall of Hope.

klone13 says... #12

Ehh- Wall of Hope is not too god in combo either. How much is Fauna Shaman or, say Mirri's Guile?

Also Meekstone might interest you.

Doran, the Lawnmower v2 is a Doran deck I built (and lost with) that's very focused on power hate.

May 11, 2015 10:43 p.m.

enpc says... #15

Wall of Hope seems bad. Its just a blocker that gains you some life. Swap it out for card advantage - it will help.

You could consider Congregation at Dawn - lets you get your combo all in one go and put it on top of your library at instant speed. And with a Phyrexian Arena or similar in play you can draw into both pieces in one turn.

May 11, 2015 10:57 p.m.

Bulwer says... #17

That should've been Wall of Omens, the white counterpart to Wall of Blossoms. Fixed now.

Congregation is excellent. I can find room for that.

Added the Competitive tag as a signifier of my intent to someday buy shocks and fetches.

Added Chariot of Victory, which I obviously need-- haste and trample makes this deck very happy. I cut Concordant Crossroads for it, but now I'm wondering if I should have cut Rancor instead.

May 13, 2015 4:46 p.m.

enpc says... #23

Concordant Crossroads is a double edged sword, I don't think that was a bad move.

I love the description, and this take on a Doran deck. Haven't seen it before, but the el-Kor combos are nasty! This looks super reliable, efficient, and certainly pretty cheap for such a solid looking commander deck. Good work, +1

Cut Sterling Grove and a Forest for Green Sun's Zenith and Dryad Arbor.

Zenith, if it absolutely needs to, can fetch Nylea, God of the Hunt just as well as Sterling Grove can, plus it gets Dryad Arbor for Birthing Pod fuel and fast ramp. The Pod uses Arbor to grab either Nomads en-Kor as a combo piece or Mother of Runes for protection.

Zenith also fetches Devoted Druid + Quillspike, a combo I didn't have in there when I originally cut it.
