If you're using it on your own creatures, why Vapor SnagMTG Card: Vapor Snag instead of UnsummonMTG Card: Unsummon?

That's more "tactical" (bad word choice in mtg!) question. Mainly Vapor SnagMTG Card: Vapor Snag is of course againts opponent's creatures. Would YOU play a card in your deck that is only for returning your own creatures? Not at all. UnsummonMTG Card: Unsummon would be a dead draw compared to Vapor Snag. My point was more like.. 1 life doesn't matter if you're in upper hand.

Noticed another thing.. Why not Gitaxian ProbeMTG Card: Gitaxian Probes in? Double benefit. I run 4 of them just because of that..

I ussually don't mainboard Vapor SnagMTG Card: Vapor Snag because I like the deck to have it's own synergy. For example, normally I don't have any Mana LeakMTG Card: Mana Leaks in my blue decks but did here because of the control aspect.

I don't run the SOM lands because in my opinion the M12 lands are better. SOM lands are best in turn 1 & 2. M12 lands are best in turn 2+. Some people prefer the early game start but I hate drawing one on turn 3.

Also I'll run the Isolated ChapelMTG Card: Isolated Chapels before Drowned CatacombMTG Card: Drowned Catacombs because this deck has a lower number of Plains and could use the White Mana boost.

I forgot about Gitaxian ProbeMTG Card: Gitaxian Probes. I'll add those to the sideboard.

@jstache93 Thanks re: Venser, the SojournerMTG Card: Venser, the Sojourner. I didn't have him originally but since it's evolved into more control he fit better and better.

@swamp_water - I hate to split hairs, but you do realize that you can play Scars duals through turn three, right?

February 20, 2012 5:57 p.m.

swamp_water says... #6

Lol yes I do realize that. I meant without waiting a turn for it to untap. That's all.

It's a good deck, but a bit too combo-based for my liking. If you get your Drogskol ReaverMTG Card: Drogskol Reavers before the Call to the KindredMTG Card: Call to the Kindred and Drogskol CaptainMTG Card: Drogskol Captain then it just doesn't work. A spirit deck's main good trait is their flexibility, and using combos doesn't work well. Also, people are saying to use Geist of Saint TraftMTG Card: Geist of Saint Traft because it will work well, end of. It hits like a titan, and on turn 3 no less. A combo-deck just isn't the best way to work a spirit deck. Huma sacrifice is a much better way ton do combos.

CuriosityMTG Card: Curiosity on Drogskol ReaverMTG Card: Drogskol Reaver will draw you 4 cards.

kram130 says... #9

Double strike. It does damage twice, so you get 4 cards.

if you're going for control, Burden of GuiltMTG Card: Burden of Guilt is a decent sb card instead of Lingering SoulsMTG Card: Lingering Souls, since you dont have the black mana for it.

February 21, 2012 11:48 a.m.

jstache93 says... #12

Burden of GuiltMTG Card: Burden of Guilt is really only playable in limited.

CuriosityMTG Card: Curiosity on Drogskol ReaverMTG Card: Drogskol Reaver does do 4 cards as you get 2 draws for the life gain that happened on each strike and 2 draws for CuriosityMTG Card: Curiosity that happened on each strike.

@jstache93 I removed Saving GraspMTG Card: Saving Grasp for a similar reason.

I believe this deck has a good concept. Many great ideas here too.

I have tried the Call of the Kindred combo here. I also used Mitotic ManipulationMTG Card: Mitotic Manipulation to ramp mana to get a Reaver (or just to put another into play, or Image, or Captain.... or.. anything else))

Since you run so many multiples (Reaver, Captain, Images, all the Geists and Niblis as well as Kindred and Oblivion Rings), you're pretty much guaranteed something out.

I also suggest 2x Sun TitanMTG Card: Sun Titan. perhaps for sideboard. If you run into a Day of JudgmentMTG Card: Day of Judgment or any other removal type deck, it is the answer... especially with Venser ;) you have many CMC 3s here that could be brought back.

Idk about 4 Faith's ShieldMTG Card: Faith's Shield main deck...maybe -2 and Phyrexian MetamorphMTG Card: Phyrexian Metamorph +2...also +1 island and -1 Drogskol ReaverMTG Card: Drogskol Reaverthis will run much smoother...i love that your tribal spirits will work off of Call

I definitely like this deck and am a huge fan of tribal decks. After running this thing through the play tester about a dozen times I noticed that the land base seems to be a little off. I would consider adding Seachrome Coast. Or do -2 islands -1 Plains -1 Drogskol reaver +4 Seachrome Coast. Otherwise, very nice deck.

You might want to consider Time ReversalMTG Card: Time Reversal as a 1 or 2-off in the MD to shuffle back the Drogskol ReaverMTG Card: Drogskol Reaver(s) that ended up as a dead draw/card in the early game cause you're bound to draw it before the combo hits off.

But that's like wasting 1-2 slots just for that. You'd probably be better off holding the dead cards till you can hardcast them though. Just a random thought.

Anyway, love the idea. Very interested to get this deck into the competitive field.

i see a lot of people against Midnight HauntingMTG Card: Midnight Haunting compared to Lingering SoulsMTG Card: Lingering Souls, in my opinion Midnight HauntingMTG Card: Midnight Haunting is 100x better, for one reason only...Its an instant, that basically gives you 2 creatures with flash. I dont know if anyone has noticed that Lingering SoulsMTG Card: Lingering Souls is only a sorcery. plus without the flashback your free to add more cards to your sideboard to take out the dual lands. i found Spirit MantleMTG Card: Spirit Mantle on a geist works wonders and its waaaay cheaper than Angelic DestinyMTG Card: Angelic Destiny.

Spirit MantleMTG Card: Spirit Mantle is kinda boss, and it fits the theme perfectly...plus Midnight HauntingMTG Card: Midnight Haunting @ EoT seems really good in this deck...i agree sorcery speed isn't right for this deck.

I like Midnight HauntingMTG Card: Midnight Haunting but I'm not sure what to replace with it. Any ideas?

+1, this seems like a solid deck. The only card I would suggest is PonderMTG Card: Ponder, because in my opinion it should be in any deck with blue.

id say if you dont like the swamp in your deck for Lingering SoulsMTG Card: Lingering Souls still having Midnight HauntingMTG Card: Midnight Haunting is great for the soul reason its an instant i agree with valentine35 although i am a fan of where the deck is going this is actually pretty similar to a pro tour deck

I notice your not playing Vapor SnagMTG Card: Vapor Snag I have one question for you. How do you plan on stopping Inkmoth NexusMTG Card: Inkmoth Nexus?

February 24, 2012 3:24 a.m.

CrushU says... #24

@wildstallion: Being as all his creatures have flying (except Saint Traft), I would guess....... Blocking.

"Secondary plan is to Tap and control your opponents as often as possible with Niblis of the Urn, Niblis of the Breath and Dungeon Geists."

It's going to be hard to tap anything with Niblis of the Breath if they aren't in the deck.

:p
