first of all: love the deck. A+ love Avaricious Dragon and Sphinx's Tutelage.

second: ive tried Jace's Archivist and it is just flat out too slow. dies to anything. if you can't give him haste, he's a waste of time. maybe you could try him out and have better luck, but i'd just save yourself the trouble and dont bother.

third: is there a purpose for Lantern of Insight? i mean, besides just having the opportunity to bone the opponent from a useful card for a turn, in hopes of milling it later?

fourth: some grave hate main deck would probably be very useful, considering there are several decks in modern (really most decks) that capitalize at least somewhat on graveyard. you, essentially, are speeding up those decks' gameplans. i'm thinking Scrabbling Claws and/or Relic of Progenitus could be good for you main deck. i think Haunting Echoes might be too slow, as well, although you may have tested it and figured it was good enough. idk. Surgical Extraction is awesome, but i think if you cut the echoes, you could free up all those land slots in your sideboard for more useful sideboard cards.

fifth: other cards to consider: Visions of Beyond, Archive Trap, maybe some cycling spells (to trigger the draw off tutelage), maybe some madness cards like Fiery Temper.

mr_funk:

  1. Thank you, I've been working on this one on and off for a while now.

  2. Not a bad card but not a good fit here.

  3. Yes, lets me see what is coming next, with shredders out I can filter draws, denying options while taking out ones I don't want to draw next; this is based on Lantern Control, the card is the namesake of the archetype.

  4. Still debating splashing black, I have multiple card ideas, but SB land is not often done for good reason.

  5. I thought about AT but I really want to stay in theme, milling from drawing and discarding, it's the gimmick of the deck and I want to avoid drawing cards without cards leaving my hand; I made an exception for Reforge the Soul due to the amount draw and hand shuffle it provides. It is only played as a finisher or when I can play it safely without worrying about the bridges. Cycle is not a bad idea but I have not found cards that I like at this time. Madness cards may be an option, haven't looked at them.

Why isn't Kozilek, Butcher of Truth in the main? I figure the draw/discard kozilek would give it infinite steam.

generalrenard: You are not wrong, but I wanted the main board to focus on the strategy at hand, so I moved it for more draw power.

I had that and Witchbane Orb in Main, moved them for more Burning Inquiry and an extra Reforge the Soul.

I normally only needed it for anti mill.

Amazing mill deck! Have you considered Fevered Visions? If yes why did you choose not to use it?

Exteez: I did, I have to play around with it, I just prefer my upfront draw; I did not want to waste the draw because I lack instant speed spells due to the emptying of my hand.

Exteez: Also, if I lack an ability to discard the drawn card at the end of my turn, that prevents my bridges from blocking 1 power creatures. Not a bad card though.
