Sideboard

Maybeboard

A pet project I have been working on for the past little while.

It is the next evolution of aurora control. With the loss of some key cards after rotation we now have to find some other solutions to fend of the rising tide of artarka red. We have two ways to get to a point where we can start to cast auroras, ugins and waterveils.

Speeding up our manna base

The only two cards that are in this iteration of the deck that speed up our lands are Hedron Archive, which has the added benefit of giving us card advantage in the late game, and Nissa, Vastwood Seer  . Nissa is an all star in this deck. She is always doing what she needs to be doing, be that making sure we hit our land drops, blocking an early threat or drawing us cards to win the game.

Slowing down our opponent

With a plethora of removal options Ruinous Path , Abzan Charm, Sultai Charm , Disperse, and Languish we can deal with most threats that our opponent could put out. Abzan Charm can also draw us cards while Disperse can bounce our Demonic Pact s for maximum value.

Siege Rhino and Jaddi Offshoot can help swing the life totals back in our favor and do a good job of blocking.

Bring to Light is a card that I am always happy to see in my hand. While it doesn't cast any of our win conditions, it can cast any of our answers in one card. It is a Siege Rhino when we get hit hard and fast. It is a removal when our opponent only has one creature out. It is a Languish when our opponent goes wide. It can cast a Nissa, Vastwood Seer   if we are ahead or we need a land and a chump blocker. It is the ultimate charm for the low, low price of (3)(G)(B).

While both of the methods above are effective, to get this deck to work properly you still need to sell your soul. Demonic Pact and Ob Nixilis Reignited can help you bridge the gap. Demonic Pact is a great toolbox card that can remove a threat and heal you, or find your answers. It also reduces the number of cards the Great Aurora will give you opponents. Ob Nixilis Reignited will help find your answers and remove threats all day long. His ult is game winning on its own.

Our main win condition is resetting the board to a point where we are so far ahead that our opponent has no chance of coming back. Our main way of doing that is The Great Aurora. We can usually win the game off our raw card power after we resolve an aurora filling most of our manna back up and wiping our opponents board. Part the Waterveil is also game winning, especially if we can cast it for the awaken cost.

As always +1 and comment!! I am still working on sideboard cards so any help is greatly appreciated.

Keep your decks janky, and the tables flipping.Cheers!!

Updates Add

I have been felling as though the fetch lands might be hurting me more than helping me here.

The thinking is that fetch lands are good not only because they fix your manna base, but also because they thin the lands out of your deck so you are more likely to draw the good stuff. My worry is that by having to many fetch lands we thin out the lands in our deck to a point where casting The Great Aurora wont net us the lands we need to re-build.

I am considering the following changes to our land base:

For:

  • +2x Llanowar Wastes
  • +1x Forest
  • +1x Swamp
  • +2x Yavimaya Coast
