Oh yeah, I took this deck to an FNM. How did a novelty deck without a single rare function in a competitive atmosphere? Lets see.
Game 1: vs. R/G Werewolves (2-0)
So this was a newer player, but he had 3 Huntmaster of the Fells
Flip in his deck, so I do not feel too awful about winning. Unsummon was the star of the show, especially after the wolves flipped. But yeah, easy 2-0.
Game 2: vs Junk Aristocrats (1-2)
This game was hilarious because of how mad he got. Game 1, no counter spells left him open for Voice of Resurgence, while Lingering Souls stopped my aerial assault. Game 2, though, I top-decked a Talrand's Invocation after casting one the turn before, and had an evolved Cloudfin Raptor out ready to swing for a total of 10 in the air. He was sooo salty when he scooped. But yeah, game 3 left him seeing 2 out of his 4 Voice of Resurgence and a Sorin, so it was easy for him. But still, the fact that I could pull out a win was amazing.
Game 3: vs Grixis Superfriends' Control (0-2)
Pillar of Flame and Bonfire of the Damned really hurt the lower toughness Drakes. Grixis usually isn't amazing, but against an army of Wind Drake when you can easily get out Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, it is sad. A very boring 0-2.
Game 4: vs Golgari Deathtouch (2-0)
Golgari Deathtouch deck based around Ulvenwald Tracker and Prey Upon to target Vampire Nighthawk and Deadly Recluse to keep the field clear. That being said, his deck did not attack, like, ever. So the death by flying was easy when I could Cancel his creature and Unsummon before attacks.
Game 5: vs Selesnya Midrange (2-0)
Kraken Hatchling was able to hold off everything early game, and Fog Bank never let Loxodon Smiter through. Lots of good ground offense and even a pretty cool turn 2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride off of an Avacyn's Pilgrim, but he just had nothing to stop me in the sky.
That's right, a Wind Drake deck went 3-2 at an FNM. Will I ever bring it back? Probably not, it is awful. But a fun experience nontheless
