(Dralnu, Lich Lord's) DEATH MAGIC

Commander / EDH Control UB (Dimir)

At new moon's rise, two generals stood side by side on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the valley where their armies were about to extinguish the last bastion of human life on the continent. Two halves of the same army, different as night and day; Dralnu's forces standing stock-still and unbreathing, their armored carapaces glittering in the starlight. Menkhaf's forces, a cacophony of clattering and shuffling, writhed beneath the darkness of night, like countless bugs squirming under a pavestone. Between them, the proud human city was now dwarfed by the area occupied by two hopelessly massive zombie armies.

Dralnu, Lord of the Undead stood upon the cliff edge and turned to look at his comrade beside him. Easily two heads taller than Dralnu, Menkhaf, Lord of the Accursed was naught but bones and parchment skin- a consequence of being undead in the desert. His tattered red robes allowed his skeletal frame to show through, which Dralnu always thought was vain and intentional. They simultaneously felt the Lich Queen impress her will on their minds. Advance. The command was forwarded to the standing armies, and the city was lost in minutes.

"Seven hundred thousand humans have been taken as prisoners." When Menkhaf spoke, it sounded like a passing sand twister. Dralnu's features furrowed as they awaited a command from their Lich Queen. No quarter. Dralnu would always regret not taking a moment to relish Menkhaf's surprise. Summoning a spell he himself had once used to punish a traitor, Dralnu intoned the words, and magic wove itself through them.

"Your life is finished, your name lost, and your work forgotten. It is as though Menkhaf never existed."

And the Lord of the Accursed evaporated in front of him. What have you done?. The question felt like a migraine and forced him to one knee. The pain quickly began to recede as the Lich Queen's royal guard, trained by her Lord of the Undead himself, turned on her. As he stood to his full height, he seized the reigns of both armies, still in the process of laying waste to the city. Seven hundred thousand human souls were his, and he would be sure to spend them generously.

Dralnu, Lich Lord would go on to bring an age of untold darkness, slaying his enemies with gruesome spells which often had encores, and a seemingly inexhaustible ability to predict and counter any attempt on his unlife.
