Hmm... Bargaining Table is pretty interesting... I'll have to do some testing with that

swap Ambition's Cost for Greed or Null Profusion they're just better card draw and are budget friendly.

is paying life ever an issue in this deck? cuz if not look into swapping Haunted Crossroads for Phyrexian Reclamation as putting the creature into hand wont waste a card draw.

why do I not see Reliquary Tower an auto include in every EDH deck I make.you may also want to put in Venser's Journal awesome life gain card maybe to replace Sanguine Bond seems like a cheap win con to me.

@ambeault

Wow! That's a lot of suggestions, and I thank you very much for also offering things to take out.

I completely agree on Greed vs Ambition's Cost I'll swap those out immediately, as well as Phyrexian Reclamation vs Haunted Crossroads thank you!

Null Profusion this one is interesting... Looking at my deck, I can use 6 mana to play all but one card in my entire deck. To me it's more of a let down than a bonus. I'll consider testing with it however.

Reliquary Tower I agree that this should be an auto include. Once I get an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth from M15 I'll put this in. Might as well right?

As for the Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond combo, it's basically only in here to keep the vampiric flavor alive. I agree that it's a cheap win con. I hardly ever use it, unless my friends make me mad during our game (and then I do it on purpose). I'm not opposed to Venser's Journal however I do not think it's necessary.

Leechridden Swamp or Piranha Marsh these are good for activating your infinate combo with Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood and you can tutor for it with liliana in an emergency. I would also suggest Bloodchief Ascension this card can win you games alone. Pair it up with Mindcrank for a kill. Or dont but Mindcrank alone is pretty good too. I have a vampire themed edh deck too its called (there will be blood), if you want to take a look at it

Why not take out Death Wind for Hero's Downfall ?

September 15, 2014 4:18 p.m.

Orcinbob says... #11

@griffstick I tried using Bloodchief Ascension a while back and it wasn't very helpful. I'm also not too much of a fan of the combo with Mindcrank (I used to use it in a Nekusar deck and I was always crucified for it) I may try it again sometime soon, but I don't know what I would take out for it.

@Robotoken Death Wind can kill indestructible things

Hero's Downfall is a tad bit expensive still, but it's worth it due to the destroy planeswalker; was there anything else you might consider taking out for it?

Well actually, I guess I could take out Go for the Throat for Hero's Downfall

I'll keep it in mind next time I do some card shopping.

Hey! I run a Drana deck as well, and I was wondering what your opinion on Bloodlord of Vaasgoth is. I don't feel like he has impacted my games as much, and seeing as your build is even less creature heavy, why not run Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet as your curve topper? I'd love to hear your opinion on the Bloodlord though.

Anyway, +1 from me for the most awesome black commander around. :)

I luuuuv Drana. I own one non eldrazi from ROE and it's her +1. Also, Venser's Journal ? possibly Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip ?

@Asher18 i have a pretty fairly good vampire deck that i used to run both the Venser's Journal and Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip in it. They are both great cards but they high mana cost. I found that the Venser's Journal is better then the Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip because everytime i play the blade it is like sending out an alarm saying "HERE IT COMES, GET READY FOR IT" and then it transforms and someone kills it. But i took them both out cause they are not fast enough. Plus i need the "no maximum hand size" way before i could play Venser's Journal . I keep putting the blade back it for fun though. Like i said befor both good cards. "There will be blood" is the name of my vamp edh if you want to check it out.

Hey there,

If your primary wincon is commander damage (which it should be) you can't have enough Mana rocks with Drana.

Phyrexian Totem and Everflowing Chalice always do work for me. As for what I would remove, spot removal. Far less effective in EDH, unless this is primarily run 1v1. Victim of Night , Go for the Throat could easily go with all the Mass Destruction you run.

Just my opinion of course!

Hi Orcinbob, here's my much less vampire themed variant. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/x-rated-drana/ I thoroughly enjoy playing this deck with my playgroup people are often taken aback by how well it controls the board the only match up I find unfavorable is Talrand but I was curious how well this deck performs in 1v1? Mine does well if I can manage to rush down my opponent with a quick 21 from Drana, otherwise it falls a bit short. Anyway penny for your thoughts and keep kicking ass with my favorite legendary!

So I do not know a lot of creatures that go well with a vampire theme that are mono black or already in there but Diabolic Revelations might fit in there. Other tutors get you one card, which early on is good but late game with a lot of mana, it just takes 12 mana (rather easy to get with Nirkana or Cabal Coffers) to get a hand of whatever 7 cards you desire at the time.

Have you put any thought into Damnable Pact ? It's a pretty versatile kill and draw spell.

I would recommend Skullclamp to be used primarily with Bloodghast but it's good anywhere.

Why did you quote Butcher of Malakir's flavor text and then leave it in the sideboard? Highly suspicious...

With all your lifegain potential, I would suggest shutting out the opposition with Infernal Darkness, though I haven't a clue what to remove for it. You've got a well-oiled machine here. +1

I think you should swap out Subterranean Hangar for the Jet Medallion in your maybe board. I've never been impressed with lands with storage counters, especially when they come in tapped.
