Fun, Interaction and an Instant Speed Win

This deck started from Nin Competitive Primer and Nin, the Narcissist [Primer, Updated!] followed by quite some innovation. It can win on turn two (Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal + Sol Ring + Codex Shredder), but in reality that will (almost) never happen. This deck is definitely not the fastest out there, requiring typically 5-8 turns, if unopposed. But it provides a control strategy for a longer game plan.

Ultimately, the instant speed win provides the greatest reward for playing this deck. That means this deck will combo out and win after another player has his/her victory already loaded onto the stack and all other opponents have already spent their means to prevent that.

Winning Conditions

The deck features quite a few winning combo's with cards that also have other uses, so you don't need to hoard them too carefully and you won't easily get disrupted. Firstly, Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal, combined with mana rocks can provide infinite mana and enable wins via Codex Shredder, Searing Touch or Welder Automaton. Searing Touch can also be combined with Paradox Engine. With infinite mana and Nin, the Pain Artist, you can draw your deck, and realize a win with infinite turns (Timestream Navigator + Suspicious Bookcase + any creature).

Instant speed wins

Whir of Invention, Arcum Dagsson, Master Transmuter and Goblin Welder can bring Isochron Scepter or Paradox Engine onto the battlefield at instant speed. With sufficient mana rocks, Nin, the Pain Artist or Codex Shredder or Welder Automaton on the battlefield, or Searing Touch in your hand, you can now combo out without ever emptying the stack. That means all disruption by your opponents will be fruitless, because you can simply respond by winning again. The last chance your opponents have to prevent your win is preventing Isochron Scepter or Paradox Engine from hitting the battlefield.

The Game Plan

In your opening hand, you would like to see at least one option to ramp up, and perhaps some disruption to prevent a lucky early win by one of your opponents. During the early turns, you will carefully ramp up, while keeping an eye on your opponents and perhaps not always spending all your mana if you have an answer ready. Once you have 5-6 mana at your disposal, you can start turning that mana into cards by playing Nin, the Pain Artist. It really helps the pace of your progress if Nin does not need to torture herself but has other targets available. From this phase of the game onward, you keep all your mana untapped during your turn. If there is no need to spend it on disruption during your opponent's turns, Nin will hit one of your creatures with full force, right before your next turn. Every hit will bring you closer to your win, while also bringing in more answers to prevent your opponents from winning.

With your lands and mana-rocks untapped you can use your Twincast, Reverberate and Dualcaster Mage to copy your opponent's tutors if you have the opportunity. These cards replace sorcery speed tutors (such as Fabricate) in the prototype decks. I only run Gamble at sorcery speed and usually use it to grab Sol Ring. To keep my lands untapped as much as possible, I avoid casting expensive rocks like Gilded Lotus and Coveted Jewel, instead bringing them onto the battlefield with Goblin Welder and the like, if possible.

Vulnerabilities

This deck is specifically vulnerable to removal of its mana-rocks and Nin's targets getting removed before her ability can resolve. If opponents have access to activated abilities that can repeatedly remove artifacts or destroy creatures (for example, re-animator decks with Dictate of Erebos), it may get totally blocked. If this is the case, your best bet is to combo out as quickly as possible. For this reason, the deck runs a few cards to provide your creatures with haste, so they can at least perform their ability once, before they leave the battlefield.

I think that compared to other Nin, the Pain Artist decks, this deck is pretty resilient: It provides you with a few chomp blockers, which means other combo decks might be attacked first. It provides quite a few options to protect and recover your artifacts. It is less vulnerable to your opponents targeting Nin, because she generally does not need to hit herself, and because it provides alternative options to keep on drawing cards, even when you lose complete control of your commander. It runs many counter spells, with spells like Reverberate providing additional support when it comes to a countering spray.
