Skullclamp is also reliable, if you can consistently find a body to throw it on to sac, which in this deck doesnt seem to be that hard.

The big thing you are looking for is when you get the cards. While Deathreap Ritual will be online often, you dont get that card until eot, and no matter how many creatures die, its still only going to give you one card. Things that draw at upkeep or at will, like Phyrexian Arena or Skullclamp are just better because they give you cards at a more advantageous time, which lets you play that extra card you drew.

@IAmTheWraith I disagree with Phyrexian Arena being better than Deathreap Ritual. They serve 2 different purposes. Phyrexian Arena provides consistent draw on each of your turns while Deathreap Ritual allows you to draw at the beginning of EACH end step. If you can ensure getting a sacrifice or a creature dying on your opponents' turns as well, you can net 4 possible cards by your next turn, which is a massive advantage to the 1 you get only on your upkeep from Phyrexian Arena.

Not saying one is better than the other, as Deathreap Ritual costs 1 more mana and may not be as consistent with the draw, but having up to 4 cards on my next turn can be preferable to waiting till my next turn for 1 card.

I also a frequent Meren player. I was wondering: How is Grist, the Hunger Tide working for you? I've got one and I think it can fit perfectly in any Meren deck but I wanted to investigate how pther people are using it.

Not tried Grist out yet, but I'm looking forward to using him. The fact that he counts as a creature while in the library and graveyard gives him so much synergy.

Too much discussion on whether Phyrexian Arena or Deathreap Ritual is the better card, not enough discussion on why Moldervine Reclamation is better than both of then :P
