Can never have enough Bloodchief Ascension. In fact, I think I tutored for it turn two when I saw Sidisi, Brood Tyrant as a commander in a game.

Not quite enough value, I'm thinking something more along the lines of Pestilence. That said, It didn't make the cut for the deck (yet).

This reminds me of an old deck I used to run when I first started plying EDH, Mono Black Hand Control.

I also see that you are not running my favorite combo!!! (and it's with Words of Waste)

Geth's Grimoire + Words of Waste

Keep your hand full, and their hands empty, beautiful in multiplayer games!

Two things I thought of when I saw this. First, while not particularly major, I saw Lake of the Dead and thought that maybe you could add in Crucible of Worlds. I don't expect you to, as it really doesn't provide anything else, unless you play a lot of land destruction, like I sometimes do. The other thought I had was Merciless Eviction. Do you have any plans to counteract that, or do you just hope that they don't have it, because if they do you're fucked?

i am shocked not to see a Necropotence. that being said Eternity Vessel may provide needed resilience on the self inflicted life drain

As much as it physically hurt me to say it, Erebos kinnae removes the need for Necropotence. Or, rather, I already have a very reliable source of card draw (Commander, albiet life-pricey) but the difference between the two is simply drawing it vs consistantly having it, and after a lot of agonizing, I went with Erebos. Also, Necropotence countered the good parts of Howling Mine and Font of Mythos.

@Vergil_Redgrail: Yeah, yeah I am. Specifically, the challenge I'm running into is Austere Command and Fracturing Gust.

Presumably Merciless Eviction, Austere Command and Fracturing Gust are the only ones I worry about. If only black had a way of protecting artifacts.....Imp's Mischief would have helped me there if it could do anything about the "all" clause, which it doesn't. Seems like it'd have to be some kind of artifact that says "artifacts and enchantments are indestructible", or some form of black/artifact Privileged Position.

I have a couple of backups in case of catastrophic failure, chiefly being Crystal Chimes and Skull of Orm. That said, enchantment destruction is rather rare except for Austere Command. Oh how I love/hate that card...

I agree with Eternity Vessel, although I"m having a hoot with Erebos, God of the Dead + Venser's Journal . I just gain life at the end of the previous turn.

Geth's Grimoire How did I not see this...

Thoughts?

If you have Darksteel Forge and Mycosynth Lattice all your shit is indestructible. Not that you would have much reason for lattice though

Why in the world would the deck need Erebos' dictate when there is a precise 0% possibility it will work?

Have you considered Curses? Curse of Death's Hold and the like?

December 20, 2014 9:48 p.m.

Eboksba says... #15

Curses fit with theme but are more cute than effective.

Just to pop a misconception, the deck not a gimmick deck. In fact, I have lost only twice with it in about 25 games (its current lifetime). It's not a weak deck but has proven to be very powerful against some of the more powerful decks out there (Azami Wizard Storm, Damia Tutor doom)

The curses are a quick way to irritate someone, but they take up very precious deck space to do so. If you don't have the one card (Curse of Misfortunes) then they're usually too weak to be effective alone.

No Mercy is already included.

As for Shizo, I benefit more from having a Swamp than something that perfectly emulates a swamp, both from Liliana and Cabal Coffers. Erebos won't be attacking, more like a massive chump blocker.

sorry i just noticed that no mercy is already in . Then maybe Hatred

Still has nearly 0 place in a non-aggro deck, but good effort.

You can use it on erebos paying 15 for 21 commander damage.

The same could be said of most any black commander, except they'll likely have many more toys to mess around with blocking. In order to have Erebos attacking people, I need to take out several cards in order to facilitate that, as he can be chump blocked all day easy. In fact, Erebos himself is a great chump blocker, able to take on lots of things as he is a god thing and therefore indestructible. Also, that 15 life seriously hurts you, you're supposed to bleed along side everyone else. You'll need to manage your life to turn into cards at the right moment.

So, Hatred is a great card but not in this deck.

This deck is similar to my Face-Melting With Mogis Punisher-style. I may have the cards to build this one as well without disassembling mine at all, so I'll let you know how it plays in my meta if I do.

+1 for good taste in cards

Thanks, glad to hear someone enjoys the deck. I'll look over yours soon.

I'm contemplating making a Pharika, God of Affliction variant of this deck with things like Drop of Honey.

December 22, 2014 2:57 a.m.

WorkHorse says... #24

I like that idea. Some combos come to mind like Reclaim + Isochron Scepter to keep Drop of Honey out of the graveyard to create a green version of The Abyss. Too bad you couldn't use Humility in that deck.

Sorceress Queen would be great with it in a deck that supports creatures, but I digress... I'll post here if I can think of anything good for a deck like that. I've been needing to make a green deck for some time now and your Pharika idea may be a challenge that inspires me.

At least you know you could ramp well with a deck like that and drop some bombs early.

Keyword with Pharika, God of Affliction is indestructible, and bury from Drop of Honey refers to destroy. Pharika is therefore immune, when it arrives at her, it stops, constantly destroying her to no effect and effectively creating a barrier where no one can have thigns less than a power of 5.
