Crawlspace is another defensive card to help protect yourself. Also Minds Aglow is an excellent spell for group card draw.

To use Crawlspace never even occurred to me and I like Minds Aglow maybe I could swap out Skyscribing for it kind of unsure what to move for Crawlspace though

Maybe keep the Skyscribing but drop the Opportunity for Minds Aglow . Also Crawlspace might provide more useful than Dimir Guildmage . Also Venser's Journal for larger hand-size and lifegain. Perplex or any other card with Transmute 3 is great to get True-Name Nemesis or Jace's Archivist . Bloodchief Ascension is super easy to use with your commander too.

I definitely like Bloodchief Ascension I looked over it before because I didn't realize it was "from anywhere" instead of the usual "from the battlefield." I've been back and forth on Venser's Journal because I don't care that much about lifegain but perhaps it's time I say screw it it generates a big advantage and that's a big deal. I think I'll keep Opportunity over Skyscribing though because it earned it's place as a pet card when I played a match with my sister copied twice with Echo Mage made her the target each time for 12 damage then Viseling dealt another 14 the next turn then at the cleanup she took another 21 from Megrim and Liliana's Caress .

It goes without say I won.

Black Sun's Zenith , Cyclonic Rift , Skull Rend , Decree of Pain , Blasphemous Act , Damnation , and Life's Finale don't really fit the theme I'm going for and all but Damnation and Black Sun's Zenith have uncomfortably high casting costs. I might use Dragonskull Summit , Sulfur Falls , and Drowned Catacomb but shocklands are to expensive on top of what I've already spent and their optional speediness really isn't all that necessary for commander and Desolate Lighthouse is pretty obsolete compared to all the other extra draw power

And Jace's Archivist can already create a repeatable Windfall

Desolate Lighthouse is a land, though, so it doesn't hurt to use it. It's not taking up any extra space in your deck.

Also, Blasphemous Act usually costs <4 mana by the fifth turn of a game, and can easily wind up only costing you the R mana to cast it. You don't like "R: Destroy all creatures"?

I understand you're trying to make a themed deck, but at some point, you're going to need generic "good-stuff" spells to deal with your opponents' shit, especially if they're drawing so many cards.

There's no harm in having 2 of the same effect in EDH and Windfall is already an exceedingly powerful spell.

Also, Jace's Archivist is a dude and can (and most likely will be) killed the turn he comes out.

I already have Font of Mythos and Kami of the Crescent Moon maybe I could use Anvil of Bogardan but I'm not sure since it could possibly decrease the amount of damage done by discards at the end of turns. Thanks for the input :)

Actually, you are right. Probably forget about the Anvil and play Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur instead.

Also, not sure what you are going for with Crawlspace . If you plan to swing away with a ton of creatures, you can keep it. If not, maybe Silent Arbiter is the better play.

Not sure about your budget, but Wheel of Fortune seems like a solid add.

I might swap out Crawlspace for Silent Arbiter whenever the time comes I'm ready to spend more on the deck but I don't think I'll use Wheel of Fortune though since it's a bit costly I also think Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur is cool but that cmc is like a stab in the face

I think your deck would have some very good synergy with Sygg, River Cutthroat as well. I like Chromatic Lantern for mana fixing.

Almost forgot one of the more important cards! Phyrexian Tyranny seems like it was custom-made for Nekusar. I can just never find them locally :(.

January 21, 2014 5:35 p.m.

jwe94 says... #18

I thought about Phyrexian Tyranny when I was first coming up with my deck but chose not to use it because tapping out to avoid damage prevents room for new cards and I'm to afraid of accidentally killing myself

Darksteel Forge has a high CMC, but some of your key win conditions are artifacts. It also protects utility artifacts like Chromatic Lantern . The reason I like the lantern so much is that utility lands now become even more useful. Reliquary Tower taps for anything I need. There are times when Maze of Ith isn't needed to protect me, but I sure could use just one more blue mana.

Your deck has me excited, but Nekusar is the next deck I'm putting together. I'm collecting the pieces still, but you have given me some good ideas.

I'll probably use a Chromatic Lantern I just need to get one or since I have 4 in a 5 color deck I could probably just drop it to 3 since I don't really need all 4 anyhow I don't think I'll use Darksteel Forge because of the high cost plus there's really not a whole lot of artifact removal in the local game anyway thank you for the suggestions and I'm glad you got some ideas from my deck

I run a commander deck very similar to this and board wipes are ALWAYS nice, especially Decree of Pain . Sure, if has a high cost, but you should be able to get there in EDH and the cards you draw are awesome. Also, you have Infest , which is essentially included in Decree of Pain, though for 2 more mana you get to draw as well. I run three (Decree, Life's Finale , and Blasphemous Act ) and even that isn't enough sometimes.

A note on Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur : Yes, the mana cost is really high but you have to remember two things. 1) Its EDH and you should be able to cast a card with CMC 10 before you die. 2) If he is not dealt with FAST, he wins you the game. Period.

Cyclonic Rift is also a game-winner when overloaded (and let's be honest, if you casting if w/o overload you are going to lose anyway).

One final suggestion: Take out True-Name Nemesis . Yes, I am aware of how epic that card it, but it really doesn't help you so much in this deck. (Plus, if you aren't using it, it is worth a lot).

Take my suggestions as you will, but I am speaking from experience in all cases. Take it or leave it, but however you slice it, Nekusar, the Mindrazer is just fun to play.

Hmm now that I think about it Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur might fit in pretty well since commander games do tend to last long enough for it to be playable same thing with Cyclonic Rift since it is one sided since a big part of not like board wipes was having to recast Nekusar, the Mindrazer . I'd probably take out Viseling for ol' Jinny since they don't get along very well and I'll think long and hard about taking out True-Name Nemesis for Cyclonic Rift because I see your point in removing it but I oh so love it as an invulnerable blocker I'll probably take it out though cause it loses a lot in 3+ player games (which commander game tend to be)

January 24, 2014 2:31 p.m.

gavoryn says... #23

I very rarely play 1v1 commander games, and my Nekusar deck isn't finished yet, but I would probably never play it in a 1v1 match-up.

I have to agree completely with Remyth, and I'll go one step further.

If Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur is on the board, and then you overload Cyclonic Rift , your opponents are going to be hurting EXTRA. They get all those permanents back, and then have to discard anything they can't play in one turn.

I play a very similar deck and have had a lot of use of Sword of War and Peace
