We use Read the Bones over Painful Truths because we can reuse it with Goblin Dark-Dwellers.

WOW! I guess I wasn't wrong to say that Grixis was back in business! 3 copies of Grixis Control made it in GP top 8s this weekend!! (1 in NY and 2 in Tokyo). All lists seem to max out on Kalitas, Dwellers and K-Commands, and playing only spells with 3CMC or less for Dwellers. Seems to be working great! I might have to drop TITI and try that myself. I guess we don't need TITI as much as anticipated since there is simply no red aggro in the meta i.e. the meta allows Control to go bigger, for the first time in a loooonnng while!

Just made a bunch of changes in the 75, based on how the Meta has evolved, and on the great performances of other Grixis decks;

-3 TITI: Basically as I just mentioned, TITI doesn't get to shine much right now because super aggro decks (usually with haste), are inexistant in this meta.

+1 GDD +1 Kalitas; they continue to impress and have positioned themselves as 2nd and 3rd most important Grixis cards against the present Meta. Almost all changes that follow are based on these two dudes.

-1 Epiphany, -1 Languish, -2 Flaying Tendrils, + 1 K-Command, +1 Read the Bones, +2 Radiant Flames: not wanting to nonbo Tendrils VS Kalitas or wipe them both with Languish. Giving extra stuff for GDD to target.

-2 Horribly Awry + 2 Duress: Not many Hangarbacks, Den Protectors or Deathmists in the Meta anymore...CoCo and PWs are the nastiest threats around now so Duress is just better against those.

-1 Choked Estuary, +1 Foreboding Ruins

Is it possible to do this deck if you don't have all 4 Flip Jaces? I only have 1 cuz they're expensive. Could you substitute for things like additional GDD or Dragonlord Silumgar or Chandra?

EastsideRock says... #6

nikinelk, this is the single most FAQ I get! I'm still glad to answer it though because Bolas is always going hard on recruiting new souls! Jace is the single most important card in the deck, but yes if you were to go build it on a budget, 4 GDDs would be a good place to start. You could also get more digging with Anticipate and/or extra Read the Bones / Epiphany at the Drownyard.

Personally I would sub in Anticipate as the extra life loss from the fourth Read the Bones might cost you the game.

Great thanks you guys! I will try this out. For now I'm trying out proxies to get a feeling for the deck.

Oh and I was also wondering what kind of side boarding you might do against a white weenie matchup? Or possibly a Collected Company or Token deck matchup?

Hallowed Moonlight, hand disruption, Negate and Dispel, are the best against CoCo there may. Flaying Tendrils and Kozilek's Return and Radiant Flames against white weenie but you need to be ready for avacyn to drop down, Languish is goog and there may be others.

nikinelk, ArmyJM07 is correct. I did really enjoy Thing in the Ice  Flip against any weenies, but they are just not present enough at the time to justify TITIs over GDDs and Kalitas. If your local meta has a lot of weenie, then definitely consider TITI too!

We recently turned down the Knob on Languish but Grasps take good care of Avacyn already.

May 10, 2016 3:38 p.m.

Why did you get rid of Thing in the Ice  Flip?

May 10, 2016 4:25 p.m.

ArmyJM07 says... #13

Not enough white weenies in his meta, I have been experimenting with Thing in the Ice  Flip in modern inside a Temur and Grixis shell, it might do well in an Izzet Counter/Burn deck I can definitely see that, Running things like Lightning Bolt, Disrupting Shoal, Pyroclasm, Spell Snare, Gitaxian Probe, Gut Shot, Izzet Charm etc. The Temur version can run Mutagenic Growth, heck you can splash that in either because of the Phyrexian mana, Flip Thing in the Ice  Flip on your opponents end step and swing in for 9 on an open field, if you run Thought Scour you can run Become Immense and swing for the 13. A lot can be done with "Thing", it's just a matter of finding where he fits.

Mastermaximo02 I'm pretty sure we'll get to play with TITI again in standard. As of now weenie is too nerfed but it's just a matter of time (probably next set), until we see another red haste deck which we will lose too much to if we don't have early blockers (obviously TITI being perfect).

Right now GDD and Kalitas are too good in the meta, so I got rid of the 3 TITI copies that were in the main to make place for more of them.

ArmyJM07 I've been curious of what a Modern optimal TITI deck would look like. Again, in my personal Grixis control, it doesn't have a place, the threats I'm running are just superior, BUT the shell you described seem indeed to be the consensus of what kind of deck TITI really would want to be in, LAWLZ on the Become Immense splash, you should build the deck and durdle with it a bit and let us know how it goes!

Here you go threw this together in 15 minute check it out tell what you think it needs Temur Crazy

EastsideRock says... #17

Looks like it would be pretty funny with the Blood Moons! Personally I think I would probably play less creatures and more spells though.

May 10, 2016 9:41 p.m.

ArmyJM07 says... #18

Yea I was play testing it with the blood moons but it is very hard to play around it with three colors, probably better to to stick that in an izzet deck rather than temur, I keep shutting myself off of at least a single color every time I draw a blood moon.

Added the Side Board and Autumn's Veil, Atarka's Command; Moved Blood Moon to the Side board. Reduced creature count, not too sure what to do about deck like Tron and Eldrazi, this deck functions like a burn deck so tron can potentially go over the top if I draw badly hopefully by turn three I'll be ready to flip Thing in the Ice  Flip or burn them out with Lightning Bolt, Rift Bolt, Atarka's Command, and Snapcaster Mage.

I really like your deck, +1 from me! I put together a budget version, was wondering if you could check it out and give me some input. Im just getting back into magic after about 5 years off.Grixis Dragon Control (budget) Thanks a lot.

ggomes2 Thank you much! I went over and left a comment on your deck. Actually your build greatly reminded me of how my own Grixis in Standard really started with!! The deck started out banking on 5 central pieces: Silumgar Drifting Death, Kola Storm, Scorn, Tongue and Dig Through Time. I chose to step away from dragons after we lost my two main dudes + DDT! But as budget builds goes, I'm sure you have the potentiel to wreck a lot of other budget builds! Have fun!

I only have to say one thing: thanks for this decklist.

I've got only 2 To the Slaughter (sick as f**k when delirium triggers, holy s**t), so while I was searching for some cards to replace those through the binder I saw Exquisite Firecraft, 2 copies, then I've cut also the 4th Grasp of Darkness to make some room. The next thought was GDD+EXQUISITE FIRE-F***KING-CRAFT.
I've experienced it's a nice card to have when Fiery Impulse can't target a f**k (PW or buffed tokens), even it's spell mastered. It also works with a flipped baby Jace, so I think it suits really well in the deck, even only one copy.

I'm also thinking of cutting off 2 Epiphany at the Drownyard in favor of bringing to main deck 2 Ruinous Path, keeping only one of them in the sideboard and put a pair of Negate in it.

I'll keep working on customizing the list to fit my LGS meta, thanks for inspiring!
Cheers from Italy (and sorry for any errors, but I do no apologize for those F-bombs, I dropped them in honor of GRIXIS).
