Freezey hmmm dude...they are two COMPLETELY different cards and serve very different purposes. Now, I could stop here but for the sake of putting this one to rest, here's the breakdown:
+1: Mode used 70%+ of the time. Ideal when we are leading and opponent's board is cleared. Amazing finisher because it is very hard for opponent to deal with; 6 damages in 2 cards which have to be killed at instant speed, leaving wipes useless. This mode is also solid when ressources are equal, dropping a 5 loyalty PW and 6 attacking power is no joke. The opponent's focus almost always goes to this, buying us even more time to set a soft-lock.
-x: Mode used pretty much the rest of the time. Even more important now that we lost Languish. This mode often not only one-side wraths the board but leaves us with Chandra to make dudes the next turn. Love it.
0: Fringe application here, but still a very nice-to-have! Sometimes can be game changing in late game.
+1: 19 of our 34 cards are best played at instant speed during opponent's turn. I'm not saying this is useless but when board is stabilized, I much more prefer having two dudes attacking for 6, than dealing two damage.
+1: The ramp is very attractive but again...we are playing most our deck during opponent's turn. In many cases we have enough mana and don't need the main phase RR. This WOULD BE the best mode for our deck though. Landing a GDD turn five and keeping 3 mana open would be the dream.
-3: We are Grixis, our creature spot-removal is the best in the format, we don't need a 4CMC deal 4 to creature...
-7: Christmas land mode is insane, no denying there. But as we all know, you never really expect ultimates to really happen more than in 5% of the games...
In conclusion, Torch IS a great card, but not for control... Its place belongs in the top end of a RDW, or in pretty much any and every midrange deck ever.

WOW! The deck looks amazing! I love the new Torrential Gearhulk (otherwise known as Fatcaster Mage) and Goblin Dark-Dwellers in the same deck.

DarkAngel367 thx for staying with me since the beginning! The deck is really really fun to play with and honestly really holds its weight VS pretty much any kind of matchup. For the first time since 2013 I am actually thinking of officially buying all those cards and doing a legitimate return to Standard (been playing Standard strictly on Cockatrice since 2013).
Haha Fatcaster Mage! He's really great and I can't see him leaving the list for as long as he'll be legal! It's really not that hard to get a 3 for 1 out of him and that's just the tastiest thing ever!!

I love this deck. Have you tested this against "Hot Wheels" yet? Played against "Hot Wheels" last night at my local FNM. Was wondering if you have played against it and how it performed.

Hey wuddup kickerv, thx!
YES I faced a SHITLOAD of wheels. In game 1 they obviously have an edge, although I have managed to win a few. Sidewise, what works best seems to be: +3 Kingpin, +1 Flames, +1 Ceremonious, -2 Paths, -1 Live Fast, -1 Insidious Will, -1 Saheeli. You can also consider Call the Bloodline which I haven't tried yet

Hey, I was just curious on how ob would work in this deck. card draw and hard removal is good but I'm guessing the mana cost is too high

Hey warthog177, you just missed it! I was running a copy of Ob in the Side against Brisela, but Black Hulk has outclassed him on every aspect. Sure I love repeatable draw, but I prefer a 5/4 beater that will net me 10 life when killing Brisela/Metalwork Colossus!! + he's a 5/4 menace beater + can be copied by Saheeli!
Strictly on both the card advantage and removal aspects, sure he's very decent, but generally too slow compared to what we can currently do with all the recursion and instant speed answers we run!

Thanks EastsideRock for getting back to me on this matchup.

This'll be short.
Went to WNM tonight, I went 3-1.
Round 1 lost to Green/Red aggro, well actually more to just bad draws. 1-2.
Round 2 beat Green/White humans?ish. 2-0.
Round 3 beat Green/Red aggro. 2-0.
Round 4 beat Black/Red aggro. 2-1.
The deck works very well! Good work.
The only difference between my deck and this list is I have two harnessed lightnings in the sideboard. I took out dispel and ruinous path for them.

DarkAngel367 Awesome man, congrats!! I would think that you piloted it very well to manage out a clear 3-1 VS a field of aggro!!
Lightnings are EXCELLENT and it is certainly not wrong to run more as you did! Thx for the valuable feedback.
Did you have identical mana-base? How did you find it?

EastsideRock says... #15
...actually you know what, thx for the inspiration: mainboard +1 Lightning, -1 Path. With all the Copters n shit running around, Harness is just better than Path most of the time, + lightnings are better in multiples + since aggro is strong we will likely see less PWs so less need for mainboard Paths anyway.

I had zero problems with the mana base. It was smooth as a baby's butt.

Cool good to know! Made some minor changes recently, including -2 taps lands for 2 Hubs, been pretty happy with them.

Last night I went 3-1
Game 1: Panharmonicon shenanigans, 2-1
Game 2: Temurge, long grindy game, lost to emrakul into emrakul into emrakul. 0-1
Game 3: Red/White dwarf tribal, 2-0
Game 4: Mardu Superfriends, 2-1
I had some problems with emrakul game one, I don't know how well the sideboard works against emrakul, I ran out of time.
My LGS is doing a big event today, (20th anniversary of the store) and their is a TON of prizes (like 2 packs per person and a $100 store credit for first and $50 for second.), and I'm hopefully gunna Grixis people out :D.
October 8, 2016 11:32 a.m.
How would you sideboard in/out for black white control? Thats the current king at my lgs
October 8, 2016 12:50 p.m.
In your sideboard description, you said this about Call of the Bloodline, "Super secret tech VS Fevered Visions! Can clear up to 2 cards from hand prior to trigger while making 2 lifelink dudes." On the card, it says you can only activate this once per turn. How do you get 2 lifelink dudes?
October 8, 2016 2:07 p.m.
I meant Call the Bloodline not Call of the Bloodline. My bad.
October 8, 2016 2:40 p.m.
DarkAngel367 says... #22
Activate Call the Bloodline on their turn, then on your turn before fever visions trigger.
I personally would sideboard in Transgress the minds, negate, ruinous path, Mechrataal(Noxious Gearhulk) and maybe Metallurgic Summonings
take out Radiant flames, maybe harnessed lightning, IDK about other people but I almost never sideboard the same, even against the same deck, always slight variations.

DarkAngel367 says... #24
If it really prominent at your LGS run more Noxious Gearhulks in the side. but definitely put in transgress the minds, and Noxious.
October 9, 2016 3:02 a.m.
Awesome, sounds good. Thanks a lot. Any thoughts in fevered visions? Fevered visions is what really drove me towards grixis but this deck doesn't even side it. Why's that?

Scytheman7 Funny you mention it, my first draft had some copies of it because I was thinking that it would probably be good to have a card to empty all this E incidentally created by cards I already wanted to run. In the end I realized that we better have good clean kill spells because once opponent board is empty, we have enough big dudes to end the game anyway. Dynavolt begs to be built around, so I'm sure it will show up in an interesting deck, but I didn't feel like keeping the space for it in my build.
Harnessed Lighting and Demon alone are good enough users of the E, I'm very satisfied with them so far.
