Illuminate21 It depends on the matchup and what they deploy but USUALLY a turn 2 TITI is too much of a good gamble to not take. If I'm playing VS control, I'll usually wait to at least have Dispel or Negate mana up - even if I don't have any counters in hand ;). I've gotten a lot of free wins to TITI. Keep in mind that if you play TITI while they are tapped out, even if turn 2 or 3, on their turn either they let it live and you can block with it, or they spend their mana killing it when they should really deploy more threats so you're good either way, and THAT's what I love with TITI. 2-mana investement is not hard to say goodbye to even if they kill it right away (not like Kali which is more tricky to drop).

MadLuckKingg That's AWESOME man. I like your little variations, seeing all those Censors your meta must be really fast!! How have they been for you yesterday? Are you gonna make any changes before next event?

Ppls! What do u think to be better as a boardwipe? Yahenni's Expertise (with 12 targets to cast off it) or Cataclysmic Gearhulk? Tell me your thoughts for both cards plz.

@EastsideRock My meta is extremely fast!!! I went 3-2 today, had some mana problems, got bad some bad draws. My version of the deck needs more spirebluff canals because of the increased blue two drops. Tomorrow I'm going to try straight black/blue control though.

Illuminate21 I assume this is for your Esper deck. I don't like Cataclysmic, they get to pick and chose what they keep...so not a board wipe. Definitely Expertise, and don't forget the TITIs for pseudo board wipe!! If you're going to have access to white anyway, Fumigate is definitely the way to go though!..

MadLuckKing Sounds good! What's your minding on going UB VS a fast meta? Aren't you gonna miss things like Magma, Harnessed and Suns?

EastsideRock I love the deck! I do have a question for you. I've been playing Grixis control at FNM for a bit, but right now my FNM is full of WB Aristocrats/Aristocats decks. What would you recommend sideboarding for that matchup? Hidden Stockpile and Anointed Procession are annoying, and seem to be pretty resiliant to board wipe because they can get tokens back quickly.

Did Blue/Black control, did bad went 2-3. But I've fixed up my grixis control list.

Deck Link

Commit//Memory is an amazing card!! It gives you a temporary answers to enchantments and gods which you have two turns to get a counter ready. And at their end step you can play gearhulk and cast memory (because one half of the card is an instant it is targetable and you can choose to cast either half), then start your turn with a full hand and it recycles your used removal for another run.

Wuddup Facebeater, thx for dropping by! Indeed this matchup can be tricky, but once you know how to take it, it should be in your favor. Their two cards you need to focus on and get rid of are Zulaport Cutthroat and Hidden Stockpile. You want to be prioritizing cheap removal, exile clause, and a few counters. My sideboarding against this deck usually looks something like:
-2 Disintegration, -1 Slaughter, -1 Transgress
+1 Sweltering Suns, +1 Magma Spray, +2 Kalitas

Be patient, pull the trigger on Suns wisely and try to counter their main engine (Stockpile), and you'll get em! Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the advice! I will try it out next FNM (I faced 3 of them last time so I'm sure I will get to again haha).

Facebeater If you'd like to get some more practice games in, I highly suggest you try out Cockatrice! (I play my deck on MTGO but the first 2-3 weeks between the day that a set is spoiled until it is release on MTGO, I test out there!)

MadLuckKingg Commit/Memory was on my short list until the very last minute before testing out this version of the deck. I'd like to give it a try but I really did't see what I could swap out. I guess the least useful card of the 75 has been By Force so far, so I might try it out! I'll add it to maybeboard, thx brotha. For one thing I guess that I wasn't sure that delaying a threat for a turn or two for 4 CMC was worth it + didn't quite see the appeal of the Aftermath mode since our goal is always to get our opponents out of gas, but I can sure imagine the end of a grindy matchup going our way by drawing 7 fresh cards at their EOT.

Recently I have lost many games being SOOO close that I'm actually considering replacing By Force with Part the Waterveil. Imagine having a resolved Chandra, clearing the board at instant-speed on opponent's turn, back to our turn and either hit for 12 if we have nothing but 6-mana and a Chandra, hitting for 16 if we have only a Chandra and 6 lands including a Fumarole. Or in grindier games imagine the fucking jackpot: We have only have a Chandra but we have 10-mana: TAKE 24!!! The ultimate KO!! Good night!!

Hmmmm yeah....the card just decreased in price. I'm definitely trying that out, like now! :D

MadLuckKingg says... #13

I agree that by force is the most useless card in the 75, every time I've sided it in it hasn't actually accomplished anything. As for Part the Waterveil, it is too slow for my meta at the moment, out of the about 20-25 people that play standard at my LGS, there is 3 control players (one would be me), about 2-5 combo players (Marvel and New Perspectives), and 14-16 aggro players every standard night. It's brutal.

Hey East! Currently using a modified version of your deck. I still lack Suns and opted to go a bit budget-wise with Lili DM instead of LH. Got 4 Gearhulks and will main probably 2-3 Things. Booted GDD out temporarily to feel things out especially against Zombies and Marvels.

MadLuckKingg Yikes! Maybe you would benefit from more TiTis?

doraemon1088 Thx for the feedback! Please keep in mind that one of the best plays against zombies is recasting Suns with GDD though! So if you're having problems with them definitely consider these red MVPs! ;)

Hello! Is there a chance that we could get a sideboard guide? Thanks!

I'm having trouble playing this against a Gruul value deck. Creatures like Lathnu Hellion, Rhonas the Indomitable, and Bristling Hydra are constantly hitting me in the face for 4-9 damage per turn. If they have any removal for Thing in the Ice  Flip, I'm stuck either dedicating mana to protecting it, or if it gets removed, hoping my opponent's deck will run out of steam and allow me to stabilize (which doesn't seem to ever happen). Any suggestions for what to sideboard against this matchup?

aliensoup Look closely, there is one! ;)

FakeHair This matchup is a tricky one. You do want ALL removal you can bring in. Most of the time what you want to be prioritizing is clearing the board (don't worry about them taking out TITI), because whenever they spend mana killing it, they are deploying less threats. To the Slaughter is awesome in this matchup since it's usually my go-to card to take out the Hydra or the Gods. Keep a very close count and look at their Energy, if ever they chose to deploy hydra without at least 3 Energy, wait for it to hit the board and then take it out at instant-speed while the trigger is on the stack before they gain the Energy. PRIORITIZE REMOVAL: all of it. Only run 1 or 2 counters at the most, depending on what they have I usually end up with 1 Dispel and 1 Disallow and that's it. Once you got the board under control and answering their every threat with a 2-for-1 (GDD/Hulk), they are toast. I more often than not run Kalitas in this too (although sometimes only 1 copy); extra body + lifelink is hard for them to deal with (all depending on how much removal you think they are running - usually they will adjust after game 1, so if you dropped TITI on turn 2 expect them to run removal so Kali not so good, but if you just showed them Hulk, then maybe 1-2 Kalis is advisable). P.S.: I'm still testing out Part the Waterveil in that matchup since clearing their board with a Chandra and then coming back by dealing 12 damage and keeping mana open is the kind of insult I like to deliver!...more on that later! Cheers!

EastsideRock Awesome! Thanks a lot for your advice. I'll be grabbing a few extra To the Slaughter for this matchup. I might try out Soul-Scar Mage as well. Have you tried that one yet? My only concern is that it dies very easily and will be wiped by your own Sweltering Suns. Casting Sweltering Suns as your second spell, perhaps after a Harnessed Lightning would keep it alive with Prowess though.

FakeHair Yeah as you said it I wouldn't recommend something that doesn't survive Suns, + he's kinda to feeble so becomes a very lackluster top deck later in the game whereas TITI is always relevant!! Add MOAR TITIs!!

EastsideRock I ended up beating the aristocrats deck at my FNM, thanks for the advice! Lost to UR Control though haha.

What are your thoughts on Enigma Drake? Also seems like a decent option. Lives through Sweltering Suns and gives a flyer that just gets bigger.

May 27, 2017 3:10 p.m.

EastsideRock says... #22

Facebeater That's awesome! Happy it worked out for you. Drake was on my initial shortlist when I was making this deck but in the end I just didn't have space for it and I judged that I already had enough win-cons. Titi is kinda taking that that spot right now and it keeps winning and stealing me games (especially those games when I drop Titi on 2 and win on like 6-7). I might give it another look when Titi rotates out though, it is a very decent card and could see someone who doesn't have Titis replacing them with Drakes....althouuuuughhh, TITI ROCKS!! :D

Yea TiTi has been one of my favorites since it released. It's going to be a sad day when it rotates out.

Thanks again for the advice!
