Hey I need some help deciding what deck to play for new standard ( I know what you'll say but it's worth a shot) I like grixis but is Esper just a better option?

I want to be sweeping boards early and often so no way I'm not playing Sweltering Suns and Chandra. The best ''catch-all'' kill spell is also still Disintegration, while Magma Spray is the best removal spell at 1 CMC. So NOPE, Grixis all the way cuh!...;)

Ok well I decided that our god pharaoh would be displeased with me if I played Esper so grixis here we go!But I will need some help First off I can't break the bank on those lilianas if they are gonna rotate so quick what could I slot in for them? Fatal push?Next up a lot of my meta is energy so how could I side in against those decks And finally ( I would hope so) are you gonna update for hour of dev?. If so what seems to be making the cut?

Hmmmmmm that card is pretty interesting. Flash 3/1 Flyer which can be deployed to ambush stuff or at EOT so that we can bash/finish a PW on our turn. OR you just Stifle something and draw a card. As I was saying earlier, I LOVE options. I would like to playtest with him. The only flaw is that he doesn't synergize with our instant/sorcery Hulk/GDD plan. Still....interesting...

Vampire_Lord If you don't have Lily, add more removal yeah, especially if your meta is R/G Energy. Against that deck you just want to prioritize ALL removal. I will definitely update the deck as soon as the set is fully spoiled (as I've been doing for the past 2 years :D).

Vampire_Lord As a general rule if you take something out of a control deck that isn't a WinCon, Card draw, or land, you can replace it with removal.
The scorpion god seems like the best for our deck, but I think it'll be a sideboard card that comes in vs. Midrange decks.

Vampire_Lord I am no expert on this, but in my deck I don't have the Lilis so I added an Ob Nixilis which functions as both removal, draw, and a win-con against other control decks, and a Pull from Tomorrow because that card is nuts.

EastsideRock with the spoiling of Nimble Obstructionist, and considering we're going to be playing the god-pharaoh in this deck, I'm really feeling that Dark Intimations is going to be worthwhile to play. Sure it costs 5 but it lets us reuse Nimble Obstructionist (or bring back a PW), cantrips, has hand disruption, AND gives Bolas extra loyalty counters. That's pretty fucking solid for a 5 drop.

1 MB 1 SB. It's expensive so we're not going to want a lot of them but having another copy in the SB will be good against mid-range and control decks. Especially control decks because it's basically a must-counter ability given the advantage it gives. Play it on turn 7, hold up a negate, and if it resolves we just went 3-for-1 in card advantage. They lost a counter, discarded a card, and you got a creature or PW back from the GY.

WOW!! Good luck against this in late-game midrange decks!

EastsideRock I should probably have explained why I liked The Scarab God when I saw it. With my Esper As Foretold deck I have been making, I tend to NEVER tap my lands after turn 6. Im not exaggerating either, the only time I tap my lands is to combine a Bontu's Last Reckoning or Oketra's Last Mercy (or both) with a Liliana, Death's Majesty. I noticed with the deck that I need something to take advantage of my untap lands, so I went looking. From the top of my head I thought of the gods, but the only viable one would be Kefnet the Mindful and even then it took more than a few turns to fill up my hand. A couple of hours of testing later, The Scarab God got spoiled.
I'v been testing it since then, and it's perfect. While of course I am still testing and changing things in preparation of rotation, so far the deck is going perfectly. Ppls, if u got some ideas or questions about the deck, feel free to tell/ask me!

Untap.in, it has its faults like every game, but for a free way to play it's really fukin good!

EastsideRock so I built the deck and started playing it and I LOVE it. Plays smooth (with the exception of a few instances of color fucked) and just seems to have answers for everything. I've been testing it with 2 sweltering suns and 1 Dark Intimations and it's been working beautifully. 1 in the deck is plenty, drew it when I needed it and I always have been getting value for it. I can't wait to try it out with Bolas in the deck.

Awesome dude! I also can't wait to drop Bolas. I'm not sure about Intimidations but I'll probably end up at least testing with it. Cheers!

14 damage to the dome in 2 turns is nothing to sneeze at lol.

EastsideRock do you think Summary Dismissal deserves a SB slot now that Marvel is banned? Also, what do you think about Pull from Tomorrow because I've ran into some situations where I've been running super low on cards dealing with their threats. Anticipate and Glimmer are great but I feel like 1 copy of Pull would be worth running since it can be used to refill the hand later in the game. Problem is I just don't know what to pull out for it.
June 26, 2017 7:52 a.m.
doraemon1088 I feel like that card is really expensive. The cooperate half is really nice but I dont know when I would ever use the Refuse half. If the spell they're casting costs enough where Refuse would deal a good chunk of damage, I would much rather counter the spell as it's most likely bad.

I'm not really hyped about The Scarab God. His only true solid use will be in EDH but we already have a general for U/B zombies deck which fuels an unhealthy amount of infinite combos!...See my Zombies of Mass Destruction deck for an example.
MadLuckKing Glad you agree. The only Grixis God that I'm really considering is the Scorpion King as a recursive Removal/Card Draw/Win-Con all stapled to one card for 5 CMC seems like a great deal and tool to have against some decks.
