Initial Reactions
- Supreme Will is the real deal, you're going to want to max out on that, I strongly think
- Hour of Devastation is fantastic, and in tandem with Sweltering Suns, has definitely rendered Bontu's Last Reckoning irrelevant before we even finish arguing about it...:D
- Bolas can do some very powerful stuff but does need a ''window'' to shine; unlike Chandra, he's not going to save you from an opposing board full of dudes...
- I'm tempted to add a second copy of Hour of Glory, either the 3rd Magma, Commit or Disallow is the slot that would make space for that. Waiting to see more of the meta...
- I really don't think we need more finishers i.e. Scorpion/Locust God wouldn't bring much to the list.

How's your removal doing in your main? Do you feel like any of them outshine the others or any of them feel useless?
July 3, 2017 2:31 p.m.
EastsideRock says... #4
No, but they all have their matchup where the shine more, hence the varied suite. Bigger spells such as Disintegration and Slaughter gets boarded VS weenie/tokens, whereas Magma and Lightning and Abrade might get boarded VS bigger decks.
Obviously if you want to meta-call VS zombies, you put more Magma main, if you meta-call R/G/x midrange you prioritize the bigger spells.

WHAT?!?!? This is grixis control man, you have been waiting for like 5 months to get to Hour of Devastation, I want to see Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh as a 4 of. Just because it is a 7-drop doesn't mean you can't play 4. NICOL BOLAS!!!!!

Are you thinking about time after rotation? Of course we don't know much about Ixalan but if you have to choose cards between the kaladesh and the HOD, which would you choose to replace the rotating cards?

Bloodborne I don't ever think of this because there is usually no point to it until the upcoming set is fully spoiled but we will still have access to great removal in Disintegration, Lightning, Magma - our best wincon Hulk - and we just got great support cards in Supreme Will, while Glimmer will also be legal. I'm not too worried!...

EastsideRockThere are very few times Glorybringer dies on impact unless you opponent is sitting on removal which isn't unheard of i guess.

Vextierium Yeah, he does have haste so at least it's easier to net value right away I guess but I still don't think we need more finishers?

EastsideRock I mean I guess you don't, it's hard for me to turn down removal attached to a 4/4 flying body with haste.

In the last few days there's been some cool videos of Grixis control decks being played in the VS series on Starcity. The decks looked solid.

So why are you keeping Harnessed Lightning in the deck when Abrade is a thing now. How often do you ever get to use Lightning as anything more than 3 damage, given the small amount of energy generating cards?
July 5, 2017 10:43 a.m.
You also really need Consign to Oblivion MB. This deck has serious problems with Enchantments once they're out and Consign can get it off the field, and you can hulk Oblivion to force discard on draw step. With the amount of times I've had people down to top decks, being able to force them to discard both the card we bounced plus what they drew is amazing.

Noctem Cool, do you have a link of their list?
Onahail Often. Abrade is a cool tool to have but you rather have Lightning pretty much against any deck which don't run artifacts (or artifacts we don't have problems with). Unless you are talking about your occasional Fevered Visions or Cast Out, I don't see which enchantement are problematic. Consign is cool and I could see it replacing Commit, but I just like having the extra counterpsell against other blue mages, I think. Thx for bringing it up though, I'll keep it in mind.

Its not just about the enchantments though. A force discard 2 is bad no matter what the situation. Its huge card advantage. Especially at instant speed.

Sure but you will need a sub to the site in order to see the content.

Onahail It's not at instant speed....wait a minute...unless you cast with Hulk! Now that's pretty interesting, certainly even more than the second half of Commit...hmm I'll add to maybeboard and test with it!
EDIT: Tapped Out won't let me add it. If someone manages to, let me know.

Noctem I'm not sub to them...are you? If so, do bootleg us the lists brah lol...

EastsideRock A lot of people seem to miss that interaction so you're not alone. Consign being instant speed is the golden ticket since you can target it with Hulk in the yard. It's amazing. And you don't really need Commit since we're running To The Slaughter. In most cases if you're in a mirror match and they drop a sphinx, that will be the only threat on the board. Consign does Commits job of getting rid of bothersome permanents while also being able to force discard, at instant speed, in response to their draw step. It's a beautiful thing. Don't need to counter a spell if its not in their hand.

Also I've been running 1 copy of Lost Legacy in the sideboard because my local meta has a lot of energy decks. The hydra is the only thing that's a huge pain to deal with so I just legacy it away, and I replaced Grasp in the MB with 2 copies of Fatal Push. Its currently in my SB but I think I'm going to remove it completely in place of Hour of Devastation since it deals with the gods. I'll probably MB 3-4 copies of Consign since I can also use it to trigger revolt for push. You can use it to bounce your Hulks back to hand to Hulk back Oblivion if you don't need to bouce something of theirs. Instant speed discard is that good.
Think about this. Consign a PW or Enchantment or even a creature, Hulk Oblivion in response to their draw, you're now up 2 for 1 in card advantage.
Consign your Hulk on their end step, then Hulk Oblivion AGAIN next turn in response to their draw. Going against an empty hand as control is probably the best fucking scenario you can get.
July 6, 2017 12:19 p.m.
I'm seriously debating running 4 MB Hulk 4 MB Consign because of that bullshit. No matter who you are, having an empty hand sucks dick.

Onahail Seems awesome in theory, but you would have to keep their hand low for this to work every time. Perhaps would have to build around a discard theme a little bit more. FYI another Grixis deck recently out-grinded me with Doomfall and GDD back the Doomfall and then Bolas +2 me. Cold muhfucka.
July 6, 2017 1:16 p.m.
So what you're saying is your considering adding Doomfall to the list?
July 6, 2017 3:55 p.m.
EastsideRock says... #25
Not really, although I am considering to replace Commit with Consign. What I'm saying is that if someone decides to go the all-in 4 Hulk + 4 Consign, they probably should probably reinforce this interaction with Doomfall and other discard effects such more Transgress and the other potent 2-mana Escalate discard card.

MattN7498 Never liked her, both her +1 abilities entice us to play at sorcery which we rarely do, and the -3 is not necessary since we already have access to plenty of premium removal.
