Draft s a fun way to interact with good folks who show up to play a fun game. It's also a very good way to get cards to make a "new" standard deck.!

Scarab God pricing is insane. Doubt I'll be getting a couple anytime soon.

I think Treasure Map could be equally good as azcanta (possibly better). It gives the scry, doesn't mill yourself, and when you go to play the scarab god you won't be tapped out cause the three treasures from flipping. If you don't need the treasures draw three cards. What do u guys think?

I think the required mana investment, the multiple investments needed to flip make it too slow in the current meta to be worthwhile. Not to mention that you don't have a choice to flip it on the 3rd activation.

Plus, in this deck it's frequently better to put the card into the graveyard instead of on the bottom of the deck for either Gearhulk or the Scarab God

Vampire_Lord Sideboard plan is pretty straightforward, against aggro prioritize cheap answers, obv all 4 Gifted. Against control you want all counters and hand hate, against Approach specifically just make sure you counter it after the first one and apply a lot of pressure. Against energy and other midrange it is a little more tricky but you adjust based on the threats they have, Doomfall and Bontu's against hexproof, counters if they have powerfull non-creatures and PWs, Vraska's is usually good, Swindle if they will have a hard time to recuperate from the tempo loss, etc.

Azcanta is pretty much the best card of the deck haha! When played early, it's almost gg...Honestly it is insane, when played on 2, you have to realize that by 7 you scried 5 times, that is an absurd amount of value...then it flips and completely makes the scale tip your way if opponent is stuck in topdeck mode (which is just about where you should be at this stage of the game).

Eragon also said it: Hulk and Scarab are a thing!

Oh jeez I didn't realise these little synergies and stuff with Search for Azcanta. From the ways you guys r talking, I wonder how good a deck would be if you try to flip the Search as quickly as possible. :o

I'm starting to think I brew too much as well lol

Well if you meta is super aggro, take out the expensive answers like Vraska, Hour of D, Disallow, and -1 Disintegration.

Illuminate21 Usually you wouldn't want to flip until you've cleared the board and opponent is exhausted, until then you'd rather keep scrying on. That's the great thing about Azcanta, YOU decide when it flips! By flipping it too early, you don't have the mana to activate it because you have to keep using all your mana to kill stuff.

Also scrying is kind of a strong theme of the deck now, sometimes we get to scry 2-3 times per turn with Azcanta + Scarab + Harsh/Voyage...Being in control of what we draw is VERY POWERFUL.

Hmm you're giving me some ideas. When talking about exhausting the opponent I'm thinking discard spells, board wipes, cheap counters, and that sort of stuff. And if you able to put consistent pressure on the opponent since u r manipulating your deck through scry's... as fun as that sounds tho I don't think there is a type of creature or spell that can hurt the opponent through this sort of stuff. Maybe Torment of Scarabs although that's kinda slow. Actually Torment of Hailfire is a good finisher for that.

Btw soz for raving about this sort of stuff xD. The way I'm writing seems like I'm trying to make a Standard version of Modern Grixis Control lol

EastsideRock says... #20

Bro, we've been exhausting the opponents ressources for 2.5 years now haha. Our goal is to exhaust them and finish them with Scarab, Hulk, Bolas. Azcanta just slides beautifully in that plan ;)

Look no further, try the list ;) Unless you insist on wanting to indulge your jank-self! :P

Of all the archetypes in Magic, my favorites r Control and Combo, if that isn't janky then idk what is. To prove it, my fav decks in Modern is Lantern Control and Ad Nauseum lol

Tbh tho I did start to play your list when Eldritch Moon was released, but like everyone I have adapted it to suit my playstyle, which happens to be extremely janky and wants to play "underated" cards, which is why I got The Scarab God when Hour of Devastation came out. Now he is everywhere in every deck xD

Dude, you do deserve the credit for selling me on him from day 1!! I just didn't see it until everybody started to!! He's so important.

Lol I love how everyone was saying stuff like "omg this will be great in EDH" and Im just sitting there thinking that in standard if it lives for the turn, u get to pay 4 mana for a 4/4 at instant speed... And it also helped that it was a Dimir God; that pretty much convinced me to buy a couple lol

Hey guys!

I know it's not exactly a grixis control deck, but I wanted to show off my latest creation: B/W Approach

October 3, 2017 1:11 a.m.

LordNahkiin says... #25

eragon795 omg I am not joking when I say that I started a deck similar to that when Hour of Devastation was being spoiled. Mine however focuses on the opponents creatures and winning by draining them. These sort of decks r SOOOO fun to play with :3
