You will see a decent amount for sure. It's a tier 1 deck after all. figure 1/4 of all decks there will be ramunap or something like that.

What do u guys think r going to be the in the top tiers? Should I just expect to mostly vs Ramunap Red and Temur Energy? And also do u guys think there r matchups where we r at a noticeable disadvantage? Ik I could just go to Mtggoldfish or something like that, but I wanna hear your opinions and problems u have found.

I feel like we need spell pierce on thr sideboard?

Top tier will most likely be a combination of Temur Energy (I include 4 color energy here), Sultai Energy (Won the dallas open), Ramunap Red, UW Approach and arguably God-Pharaoh's Gift decks...

Just go to mtgtop8. Almost all the peeps in my LGS netdeck thus, the builds are more or less predictable.

Guys, we have no problematic match-up, the deck is very well positioned. Perhaps do some minor tweaks to have a stronger game 1 against aggro (at the detriment of having a weaker game 1 against the rest of the field). But keep in mind that as a control player, it is normal to typically lose game 1 VS aggro...With the 4 Gifted and Magmas (and sometime Negate), We have a strong game 2 and 3 though.

eragon795 4 Hulks are not needed. As long as we draw either a Scarab or a Hulk by turn 5-7, we are good. With all the scrying digging and drawing we are doing, we can easily find a win-con when we need one. Early game all we want is removal.

Do you find you use Star of Extinction a lot? Is there room for a second Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh in the main?

October 3, 2017 1:23 p.m.

EastsideRock says... #10

Every time I see a Carnage Tyrant! I don't think a second Bolas would accomplish much, unless the game goes long, you don't want to draw him.

Vampire_Lord I had replied you on this already...

Well if you meta is super aggro, take out the expensive answers like Vraska, Hour of D, Disallow, and -1 Disintegration.

Hey East. Did some playtesting earlier at my LGS. Basically used the same setup with the main deck but tweaked the SB (+2 Gonti, -1 Gifted, -1 Commit). Here's my report:

1-3 vs Ramunap RedGame 1 - got overwhelmed at the blazing fast aggro. Game was done by turn 4 or 5.

Game 2 - mana screwed

Game 3 - removal cards never came up.

Game 4 - Gonti went clutch. Stole Chandra and Soul Scar. Scarab God went out of control.

2-1 vs Naya Dinos

Game 1 - FU Carnage Tyrant. Friend out-tempo'd me.

Game 2 - Bolas got resolved. Stole Ripjaw Raptor, Carnage Tyrant and Regisaur.

Game 3 - Hail the Scarab God. His whole graveyard was basically attacking him.

So yeah, thanks for the template. Will tweak the deck to include Gonti because he sure as hell is one damn clutch.

As a point of reference for how the metagame is shaking out, day 2 of SCG DAllas looked like this:

36 Ramunap Red at the start of day 2, 18 of which made the top 64 of the event.

Foul Color Energy had 23 at the start of day 2, 11 of which made top 64.

Sultai Energy had 8, 5 of which made top 64

Temur Energy had 7, 4 of which made top 64

U/W approach had 17, 9 of which made top 64

Esper gift had 4, 3 of which made top 64

All of these have about a 50% conversion rate. These are top decks of the meta as of this moment and these are what we should all be getting ready to deal with.

Been jamming a lot of games since release on MTGO. Since these results came out I definitely been facing more aggro stuff than dinos and Tyrants so I'm switching the Bontu's in the side for the 3rd Magma.

Deck is holding up though! It's a blast to play and is performing really well!

So what does the ideal hand look like? how many lands should i be looking for? how much removal is enough?

ive been having a lil rough time playing against energy. Any tip??

EastsideRock says... #21

Vampire_Lord The most important thing is to have 3 lands. I only keep a two-lander if I have some cheap removal to play right of the bat, or ways to scry. Making land drops for our deck is primordial. Don't focus on win-cons until turn 5-6...early game all we want is removal + digging/drawing.

aliensoupp There's a few different lists but mainly you want to maximize your answers based on what they have. If they are the type to go large (many creatures), prioritize sweepers. If they are more midrangy, focus on tempo-gain. If you link me a list I could tell you exactly what sideboard plan I'd recommend.
