Spoiler alert: Jaya Ballard is fucking BOSSSSS

...especially in tandem with Sweltering Suns and Glimmer of Genius..., the card filtering is super useful, and her ultimate is Snapcasterlicious!!!...

Therefore took out all the black removal save for Vraska's Contempt, and am banking on Red removal. Description coming soon!

I tried the decklist and it's a hit-or-miss against WG Aggro and Mono Green Aggro. Those Steel Leaf Champions hurt like a bitch. Will give it a few more run throughs before I edit it.

It shouldn't be so bad post sideboard, WG will definitely be one of the strongest deck though so it's good to test against it! I have had no problem at all VS mono-green.

Why no Spirebluff Canal, Fetid Pools, or Canyon Slough? Especially the cycle lands there they really help in my control deck.

I always prefer not to play tapped lands if I don't need too. With the 12 duals + basics I run, I never have to play any tapped land, which is great. The cycle in times of flooding can be good, but I prefer not to lose efficiency because until turn 6-7 I absolutely want every land to come in untapped!

Just got hammered hard by UW Control. Teferi and Karn are two SOB's that need to be dealt with, and combo'd with Approach means one hell of a headache. Might have to SB Lost Legacy just to remove approach.

EastsideRock says... #8

Haha yeh, I've had some good battles with UW control. We have enough counters to deal with Approach but we need to have mana-up while also killing their threats, not easy, but with patience it's winnable! I need to test more against though tbh, I see a lot of aggro now so they are my focus atm.

Ive been finding that a couple of cards have been clutch for me - Cast Down and Metallurgic Summonings as a one of main board- it means the stalled board state is never stalled for long, and enchantment hate isnt huge. It also means you get 3 for 1 value with Gearhulk for example. Cast down has been amazing vs Steel Leaf where I've struggled a bit when they go under you.

EastsideRock says... #10

Tried Cast Down a little bit but it didn't really shine so I took it out when I nerfed black, I recently added Moment of Craving, I find it is bringing a lot more to our deck, that 2 life-gain is huge VS red decks!!

I ran Summonings in the side for a good while in past metas, it was helping a lot VS the combo decks. Haven't tried it in a while, will keep an eye open for it!

most of this deck rotates soon and grix's won't be the same after rotation i guess play it while u still can is that your theory ?

May 22, 2018 7:29 p.m.

EastsideRock says... #12

mikeb388 Been playing nothing but Grixis for 3 years man. After the core rotates, we find another core. As long as we have a couple win-cons (Scarab God still rules), removal + card draw, we make it work!

EastsideRock - I have been using your core for over a year now and it's been a lot of fun to play with. Outside of FNM I do play a fair amount of competitive Magic which your build has been doing well. Just wanted to say thanks hoping many more years to come. Thank you.

MrKabar Nothing warms my little cold shriveled heart like reading something like this. You're welcome Sir! Here's too many more years!

Welp, after playing esper approach for the last year, its starting to feel very boring. Ill be coming back to grixis now.

So what are the best/worst matchups in the current meta for grixis?

EastsideRock says... #16

MadLuckKing Welcome back then! The deck is very well positioned I'd say. And this RB aggro which just was all over the top 8 of the pro tour is no big deal for us - it doesn't have enough synergy for us not to able to control them.

Our main bane remains white decks with white enchantments - as well as decks running 3-4 Carnage Tyrant although these are pretty rare these days.

MadLuckKing says... #17

Have you tried Precognition Field or Nezahal, Primal Tide in the 75 at all?

They were pretty strong when I was playing Esper.

doraemon1088 says... #18

Time to reconfigure my deck. The players at my LGS are mostly netdeckers so this should be easy picking.

LordNahkiin says... #19

MadLuckKing What do you like about Precognition Field and what do you use it for? I personally like the card and its design, but I don't know how or what to use it for

June 4, 2018 5:20 a.m.

MadLuckKing says... #20

Illuminate21 You use it against control and grindy matchups. It basically just helps filter through your library, but also gain advantage over time because you can cast removal from your library instead of hand.

I like it because of the unique design personally, and also seems very much like a control card.

June 4, 2018 7:46 a.m.

EastsideRock says... #21

MadLuckKing Yes! I played with Precog and although it is EXCELLENT vs control and grindy matchups, I just wasn't facing enough of them! - I have more use for the other 15 in the side.

Another card I was using VS grindy matchups was Yawgmoth's Vile Offering - but didn't end up boarding it enough.

June 4, 2018 12:47 p.m. Edited.

LordNahkiin says... #22

MadLuckKing Thx for the info! Its kinda sad, bcs I want to make a deck around Precognition Field, but it may be too slow against all the common aggro decks that are swarming atm. Still, I'll attempt to create said deck and see how I go :D

Thx again!

I've had trouble with this list fighting the new Pt RB Midrange lists; how do you usually side against them?

June 8, 2018 12:06 a.m.

arglebargles says... #25

Worked out well in my first run on Arena, quick queues so no SB at all. Not many decks I've seen can do much against a resolved Bolas.
