Damn, x4 Angrath's Rampage, im guessing either instant speed edict wasnt needed, or the fact it kills walkers for 2 mana is just too strong.

Im getting so excited to play the new list, its gunna be a good year or whatever with these cards, grixis control seems stronger than ever atm.

illegalKross Yeah! The PW killing mode even if sorcery is just way more useful than instant speed Lili edict, so I maxed out on it! I like the playset for game 1, I sometimes take out a copy or two if the opponent is very heavy on tokens.

Personally, I like Bedevil much better than Angrath's Rampage . They're both useful cards, but adding one black mana to be able to target and gain instant speed is well worth it to me.

I would also trade Essence Scatter for Sinister Sabotage . There are so many ways to remove creatures once they hit the board that having a counter that only hits creatures is rarely good, even if it deals with gods. Besides, there aren't many situations were your opponent will be playing a god where you don't have two blue mana.

Feltrix I could see various splits between the amount of Bedevil and Rampage, for me I just found that the deck curves better like this. It's not just about adding 1 black mana but to give us a chance to cast more than 1 spell per turn / search with azcanta / charge up Blast Zone, etc..

The Essence Scatter / Sabotage discussion is the same. It's about curving, casting many cheap spells in the early turns is crucial, so the more 2-drops the better. Unless I'm against control, I don't really use/need Sabotage.

Think about Mission Briefing also, it's a lot easier to cas UUBR and 1UUU then UUBBR and UUUU!...

Ya, we early plays are so crucial for us since unlike esper we dont have a catch all board wipe to rely on, also adding too many thing like sabotage (UU) and bedevil (BBR) can put a huge strain on our mana (since we run blast zone/field of ruin) which causes game losses.

Maaaaaan this Blast Zone I tell you....it's good VS literally any deck and at any point in the game, never bummed do draw it.

I'm gonna test with 2x Enter the God-Eternals in the side now. Main -1 Rampage +1 Moment of Craving. Side -2 Craving

Since there's going to be a bunch of crazy brews around new Archetypes and what not, why not have the 4x Thought Erasure for being effective in all the non-aggro matchups?

Hi Everyone!

It's been a little while since I talked about grixis, as I've been low on it most of last season. (EastsideRock I did play your list for a week right at the end and it was brilliant, the base black was far better last season than my base red).

But now with WAR coming back out I'm jumping back on the bandwagon! I'm super exited to play with new Bolas.

I do wonder why you aren't playing the full playset of Thought Erasure ? That card is one of the main draws to Grixis for me (aside from Bolas himself of course). I just feel that it is so potent across the board that playing any less that 4 is criminal.

Also, I have been testing myself and I came up with this list: No Dead Cards. It isn't the most powerful of decks, but it was very interesting to see how far you could push it.

Finally, you play on MTGO right? I was wondering whether we could test sometime together - I'm playing in a MCQ in a month and would like to hear your ideas more. (Or if you have MTGA that might work better, I don't know). Either way though, thanks for your hard work, I prefer Grixis to any other control deck at the moment.

eragon795 Nice to hear from you! Yeah Thought Erasure is awesome and I wouldn't blame anyone for playing the playset, I might come back to it but for now I'm still testing with different cards. I just found myself boarding it out often because of the need for so much removal this time around. A lot of decks just keep dumping and dumping dudes and PWs so it's important to stay ahead removal wise. I'm happy with 2 so far though, which I also sometimes copy with Kefnet and/or recast with Mission anyway.

I do play on MTGO man! User: Eastsiderock. Until WAR comes out on MTGO, I've been doing my testing on Cockatrice. I'd be happy to do some testing with you for sure, hit me up over there!

Noticed you took out dreameater. Kefnet is all around better, but what about having something to deal with Reclamation?

April 24, 2019 11:19 p.m.

EastsideRock says... #12

Hi kakuzu7, BLASTTTT ZONNNNNEEEEE! :D also destroys instead of bouncing. And if ever this doesn't suffice, we can look into running 1-2 copies of Ugin in the side, but I highly doubt it.

Eastsiderock yet again i love ypur new build alotive been following your builds for around 2 years now always pleased by the performance of your grixis builds. Lastly, how do u feel about saheeli in sideboard ageasnt the new addition of war of spark

EastsideRock says... #14

deathbysnusnu Thx for your message! Glad you enjoy the Grix life :D

Saheeli is a fine card but does not fit so well with what we are doing. Sure we would have the potential to create a lot of thopters but it's not like we need this as wincon. The minus ability would usually be dead as we only run 2 copies of one creature and it's Legendary! In a Grixis deck, we usually want walkers to do 3 things (yes we are demanding) 1) card advantage 2) removal 3) win-con, which both Ral and Bolas currently provide, and I love them for it! :D

Bought 2 boxs tonight from preorder it was destined for me to play Grixis yet again. Foil nico box and another regular nico in second boss. Been testing all night with other proxy deck builds been wrecking hard felt that cry of cranium was better main board for my meta instead of ritual of soot

Made an account just so I could stop by and say:

This is one of the best and most interactive threads regarding a deck / playstyle I've seen. No pretension, great knowledge, in depth explanation of strategy and planning that moves a degree or two beyond what most folks might consider at face value.

EastsideRock, fantastic job mate.

I was looking around on how to use the nice shiny Bolas I pulled on MTGA, and while I've always gravitated towards control in U/B or U/R, I believe I have become a convert. Can't wait to slap this list or as close to it as I can afford together and give it a spin.

Wish I was still on MTGO but I cannot control my finances with that thing haha...

Great stuff and I am staying tuned!

deathbysnusnu haha that's destiny, Bolas doesn't get chosen, he chooses!

Terryth Hey thx a lot for the kind words man! :D I really like the list now, everything sits pretty solid, I will therefor update the description in the next few days!

What does:

What is a mes?

Ran the deck as listed tonight at my local fmn end was 2-2 worked great ageasnt most decks until i just hit big ole land pockets.

First game ageanst feather buff deck won 2-0round 1 kill creatures kill about 10 then he scopes both games- creature control worked great

Game two 0-2i played ageasnt a esper control deck now thats a tought match up vsing lillians and ulgins and damn that narset he sideboarded in game 2 and 3 Just couldnt keep up he had so much hand control and countspells and his "war"teferi 1 locked me down. Whats your suggestions ageasnt a easper control deck pretty much

Game 3 was 1-2 ageasnt gate control Round 1 he just played rams and collosses non stop Round 2 i got unmored ego off turn 3 on rams then turn 4 got his expansion explodes won that round fast. Round 3 he got me with quick ram and collosses hitting the field every turn and he negated my vraskas contempts attempts on them. :(

Game 4 won ageasnt a simic adapt deck with nissa man is she hard to deal with. Only had 1 round because. Nissa elemental 3/3 creatures was insane to deal with but eventualy i killed nissa and poped nico and won.

EastsideRock I only play the best of 3 format, so I definitely use the sideboard.

Though I've had a LOT of trouble with Reclamation decks, even with Blast Zone available, I have a poor like 10-15% winrate against them. Anything you recommend against it? I tried x2 Narset, Parter of Veils and it seems to work the best so far, it also doubles against control too, forcing removal from them.

I also tested some Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage , he does nice work against non- mono red/white decks, he gains so much advantage and keeps our opponents out of fuel.

Blast zone has been too good of a card, enchantment removal makes us basically gods, but... Commence the Endgame has won at least 60% of my games, this card is insane, make a big dude, draw cards, and "Cant be countered" is soooo relevant. I've had a handful of people try to counter it already, its hilarious.

EastsideRockCurious as to how your games have went recently. I'm running a Grixis build as well with some similarities but I still run into certain troubles against certain decks. The one deck I never beat is a Simic Nexus build....disgusting lol. If you'd like here's my deck I run in MTG Arena, feel free to take a look and suggest anything, I'm always looking for ways to improve it. The Nicol Standard

Grixis for life!

deathbysnusnu Thx for the tourney report man! Always highly appreciated!

illegalKross I'm usually doing well VS Reclamation, just make sure you counter those enchants or strip of their hand, definitely bring in the Egos for this one!!

MisterHanzo Nexus is a weird one, you gotta tempo them out. Egos can break them so definitely bring those in!
