Dual Decks

Dual decks are my attempt to create a series of interesting casual decks, designed to be played against each other. The twist is that each dech is built using two separate creature tribes, and tied together with Maskwood Nexus which gives all creature types to all of your creatures. Each deck aims to show off both the strengths of its tribes, as well as a few famous MtG combo mechanics used in unusual ways. Each Dual deck is 61 cards, with the last card being an Un-card or playtest series card which is added for silliness, and can be removed if you prefer.

Summary

Vampires have a long and wildly varied history, but for this deck we focus on hitting opponents with our creatures. The deck can also get a little political, as both Vampires and Pirates should be.

Opening hands

Malcolm, Alluring Scoundrel is an excellent start since he begins working through your deck. Changeling Outcast and Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator is an effective treasure engine. In general, this deck is pretty forgiving when it comes to opening hands.

Combo Mechanic: Combat Damage

Including old Malcolm, there are lots of benefits to hitting an opponent's face, and many creatures that are eager to do so.

Combo Mechanic: Lords

While it's a common mechanic for all Dual Decks, this one has a particularly high number of creatures that buff their tribe. There are 7 of them in fact, and that's not counting Cordial Vampire. Such an awesome card...

Small combo: Stromkirk Captain + Vampire Nighthawk

An oldie but goodie. Wizards has been careful to not make Deathtouch and First Strike on the same creature a common mechanic, but when it does happen, it can be shockingly effective. Later on, we give all of our creatures both.

Final combo: Maskwood Nexus + Vampire Nighthawk + Widespread Brutality + (Optional) Coveted Prize

Possibly my favorite combo in a Dual Deck: kill everything you don't control and gain tons of life doing it. Even better, Coveted Prize can search and cast Brutality, and Cordial Vampire/Mari both get huge benefits from the wave of death.

Even Finaler combo: Etrata, the Silencer + Mari, the Killing Quill + Ramses, Assassin Lord (+ Maskwood)

Perhaps the most stylish way to win:assassinating everyone at once. Note that although Ramses is an incredibly creative and fun card, he does come with an unfortunate caveat: you need mature, good natured friends. Otherwise they can technically concede in response to your attack to deny your hard-earned win.

Un-card: Loose Lips

This card is alright just for the Flying, but the real value is in holding your opponents hostage. If you love asking, "Do you pay the 2?" then you'll definitely enjoy asking, "do you say the thing?"

Recommended sentences include "I'm a little teapot, short and stout... Borborygmos." and "Hey guys, let's let (your name) win this one."

The goal of Dual Decks is for each deck to be relatively balanced against the others in a 4-player FFA format. Due to its devastating boardwipe potential, this deck outperformed the others; I am downgrading its land base slightly to compensate.
