I REALLY want to play Jihad but it's just so bad I can't bring myself to.

Hot Damn, Ben! A truly inspired take on a challenge that you well know is near and dear to my heart. Awesome work. So what percentage of this deck do you intend to have altered? When this comes to fruition we're going to have to find a time and place to meet for a game!

How did you manage to get our alter in the commander box of this page? The forum led me to believe that the altered card system is sort of hopelessly broken at the moment and that new alters simply won't work any more. Any hints would be so appreciated; Hazezon is put to shame by this page!

Thanks so much Tim! That means a lot coming from you, and trust that it was never my intention to put Hazezon to shame! Your deck has inspired me for literal years to achieve this dream. If anyone is to thank for helping me get across the finish line, it's you.

Right now my plan is to have the 6 revised duals altered into a panorama of the background image on this page, have the 6 shocks altered into a zoomed-out panorama with the duals image in the distance, and then have the 6 shocks altered into a panorama of a character looking out into the desert with the same worm convergence on the distant horizon. Gaea's Cradle, Lord Windgrace, possibly Hazezon, and probably a good number of other cards will be altered, but I haven't planned them all out yet. Still refining this deck so I'll probably wait to fully alter/foil it until this list has settled.

In other news, one of my best friends ever lives in the Bay Area and plays EDH, his name is Nathan, and he loves rock climbing (and I saw somewhere that you do too) and I was thinking you two should meet up. Let me know if you want his contact info.

On the subject of alters, you should be able to look at all of my alters on here somehow, but I've added a bunch in the last few months and have never had any problems adding my altered commanders to my decks to make them show up. Send me your phone number in a DM and I can text you pictures of what I did on here. It's hard to write the code out because it doesn't appear as normal text in a comment. But I didn't do anything special beyond writing the alter code after Dune-Brood Nephilim and then labeling as normal as my CMDR.

I absolutely want to make it out to the Bay Area to visit Nathan, and now you! If you're ever headed East, let me know too. I'll be in LA next week but I realize that's unfortunately far away from SF.

Nice coding on the deck, love the background you chose! +1

Thanks scotchtapedsleeves! I think it's still your style sheet. Btw if you have a link to a style sheet that will keep the accordion blocks transparent while they're expanded, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me :)

Just looking at your stylesheet here, it's not mine. Once my computer gets fixed I'll make a basic stylesheet that makes things transparent like the one you have here

This is fuckin' amazing, bro. I admire your passion and attention to detail in crafting this piece. Funny thing is the only sandworm movie I knew about before this was Tremors lol. I see that Dune was unfortunately reviewed pretty poorly. Too complex for its time? How do you think they may change it to improve the reception while keeping it true to the material?

Yeah the first book is almost a thousand pages and they tried to cram it into one movie, which was an obvious mistake. To me, after having watched it many times, there is greatness scattered all through it: Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck, Duke Leto, Baron Harkonnen, Jessica, and definitely Paul all have amazing performances. But the movie was too weird and random, trying and failing at early special effects. It leans on narration as a crutch too much to skip through vast sections of book.

The new movie will be the best movie of 2020 no contest. It’s being made by one of my favorite directors, Denis Villenuevev, who made Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, two of my favorite movies of all time that are visually grand and overwhelming. He has exactly the write eye and creative mind for Dune and what’s more he loves the source material, which I think is crucial to success in doing an adaptation.

Ridiculously complex and thorough, forget about Magic this makes me wanna re-read the series lol +1

Chiming in with another round of fantastic work. As a Dune and EDH enthusiast, this was as fun to read as a tribute to one of the best SciFi books ever written, and interesting to see a great primer for a powerful deck. I really love the Vorthos flavor in connecting the cards thematically to the major characters. On another note, I saw that you currently lacked a connection for Amulet of Vigor to the series, and I wondered if you wouldn't consider it emblematic of the Weirding Way itself. The books describe the Way as a perfection control of muscles and nerves which enabled a physical quickness to strike faster than opponents could react, and also deal more damage. The Amulet seems to share this connection with speed and celerity. Great work!

spiral_te duuuuuuude. You're so right. I'll include that in an upcoming rev of the description after the list settles a little. Thanks so much for the upvote and the comment. I really appreciate it.

So VietMoneys, I got your boy Hazezon out tonight with an Attrition and Strands of Night in play and was able to get him to set up three triggers a turn for a couple turns in a row as insurance against board wipes. Even brought him back in on my next turn with the delayed trigger on the stack during my upkeep to set up the next turn before immediately sacing him again. Paul absolutely rekt the Harkonnen scum :)

Love it! Black definitely opens up some crazy potential.

I'm on another read-through of Messiah right now, so I'll keep your deck in mind!

I love the theme!! And I always recommend going for flavor over effect - throw that jihad in there! It’s a perfect fit!!

I almost don't want to mention this after getting very focused on making 50+ 30-card non-repeating smash-up decks, but you have enough card variety so that one player could play Atreides, one player play Harkonnen, another the Bene Gesserit, and one player play as Dune itself. Legends could repeat, as indicative of their involvement in the affairs of the various factions and events. This deck and the write up you made with it are astounding.

Also, Jihad , the low-hanging fruit. Your contention over whether to include it or not mirrors Paul's own questioning the merit of unleashing the Fremen across the known universe. That is awesome.

Wow, I had no idea that so many people love one of my favorite masterpieces! Lol, but seriously, this deck is amazing, man. Really balances the (awesome) flavor with playability. You, sir, are a genius and are truly worthy of the +1.

Just wanted to mention that Dune is my favorite piece of sci-fi literature and I think you have done a tremendous job making a deck representation of it. Also hats off to the editing on this page!
