Suggestions and Help wanted!
Dimir Mill deck for Vintage format. I spent some time looking at a lot of Mill cards and I came to this as my final decklist.
Suggestions wanted for replacements.
Combos:
Evolving Wilds
+
Hedron Crab
Mills 6 cards + another 6 for every Hedron Crab in play.
Haunting Echoes
+
Traumatize
Allows me to search threw my opponent's library, and remove and possible threat that I have milled at least one copy of. If the deck is one that runs at least 2 of every card, this is a great way to wipe out most of the deck.
Brain Freeze
+ many low cost spells
This can really add up, especially with spells that cost 0 or only one or two mana. I have even milled 18 card in one turn before.
Best comboed with Black Lotus , Mox Jet , Mox Sapphire ,
Ancestral Recall
, Visions of Beyond , Thought Scour , Brainstorm and these are just the spell with a CMC of 1 or 0. Not including the ones with 2 or 3, which can still be low.
Crypt Incursion
+
Traumatize
You're probably thinking "What about decks like Goblins? They use a lot of creatures and you have very few creatures." Well, this combo can solve that (though waiting for Traumatize may not be the best idea when playing against Goblins.)
Visions of Beyond can allow me to run (basically) 3
Ancestral Recall
instead of just 1.
Sphinx's Tutelage can work well with
Ancestral Recall
, Visions of Beyond , Jace Beleren , Thought Scour , Treasure Cruise , Brainstorm , and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
as well as your draw at the start of every turn.
Jace, Telepath Unbound
with the second effect will allow you to use Time Walk ,
Ancestral Recall
, Glimpse the Unthinkable ,
Breaking
,
Brain Freeze
, Brainstorm or Demonic Tutor
If I have nothing in the graveyard, possibly due to Treasure Cruise I will use his first effect giving me some defense. His third effect is probably the most useful, but I usually use the second effect to reuse one of the above. The Emblem will allow even faster milling, even when you don't use a mill-based card; such as Visions of Beyond. Pair these two with Sphinx's Tutelage and that is at least 11 cards.
Side in Surgical Extraction to remove any card that has the same effect as Emrakul, the Aeons Torn that could easily ruin all of your hard work, and since it is an Instant you can use it in response to Emrakul, the Aeons Torn being put into the graveyard.
If your opponent has a threat that you feel could easily beat you before you can make them deck out, use
Set Adrift
. The reason we use this over a card like Unsummon is because with
Set Adrift
the card elk go on top of their deck. What do we do with their deck? We mill it, forcing that threat into the graveyard, and if it's a creature, which can be further removed with Crypt Incursion.
Ravenous Trap is another way to deal with threats such as Emrukal, the Aeons Torn, but Ravenous Trap will remove all of the cards in the graveyard, and it leaves any copies in the deck still a threat. So there are wins and loses with each. I've even used this against cards like Elixir of Immortality stopping them from returning cards, but it still let's them return Elixir of Immortality their deck.
Haunting Echoes
is like combined Surgical Extraction with Ravenous Trap.
(Wanting to buy/trade cards from you if you are willing to sell/trade; however I barely have anything worth trading and I am poor to it will take time for me to get the money.)
