Dude, a stifle would beat this too

If we go first, they can't play Stifle. Also, no one plays Stifle in competitive legacy unless you are seriously driving your meta off the deep end. If they were going to do something like that they would play Force of Will, Surgical Extraction, or Tormod's Crypt

Generally, this archetype is called Oops, All spells. Not a very good name, but best being yet another breakfast item.

This is a very cheap and fun way to get into legacy.

One point of improvement would be 3-4 Cabal Therapy. It is an invaluable tool for these kinds of decks, since it can get rid of problematic hate cards and at the same time be pointed at yourself to discard a crucial combo piece. It would be the first upgrade to make to the deck, probably replacing chancellors. In addition to that, 3-4 Chrome Mox are very well suited to produce mana off a useless chancellor.

Also, there is new tech in terms of playing 1 Bridge from Below and 1 Underworld Cerberus. I have no idea why, but here it is: http://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=8300&d=247712&f=LE

Boza, I do agree with you on all of your points. However, Cabal Therapy is a $8.00 card. This is a budget deck. Chrome Mox costs even more and serves less of a use. I will test replacing the Summoner's Pacts with Cabal Therapy.

I may not have mentioned it, but it is good for budget decks, especially legacy ones to provide points for upgrading the deck once you are satisfied with the current state of the deck. Not a single deck is ever finished and providing some guidance on how to do it is a good idea.

I really should have stated that before, but as far as budget goes, this deck is about as low as it can get. Both cards I suggested are a way to bring the deck away from its budget nature.

After playtesting, I did realize it was more important to have Cabal Therapy than Summoner's Pact. Cabal Therapy even costs less. I did have a section called What should I add if I want to upgrade the deck? but I suppose that might have been a little bit brief.

I would replace a couple of chancellors with 2 Spoils of the Vault. Makes it easier to search for the combo piece once you have enough mana.

Thank you for the suggestion, Boza. I will be testing a singleton copy of it.

Awesome deck, I'm planning on building it to annoy my friends with but I don't need the spoils or therapy for that, do you have any ideas for alternative cards I could use? Thanks.

Have you looked at the non budget list under what should i do if i want to upgrade th deck? Also, sorry about the messed up description...

It's done very well, sorry I should have mentioned I was looking for something cheaper, I'm currently running 4 desperate rituals, they have been working alright.

Maybe add some Tinder Walls? Extra ramp is always helpful. I do disagree with you that the Cabal Therapys aren''t needed. If you draw a combo piece, you have to wait a turn to discard them. If you went first, it could take a long time.

I'm building this deck to get into Legacy, but was wondering what the sideboard should look like.

That is where the deck gets way more expensive... Goblin Charbelcher is an alternate win condition and makes their graveyard hate useless. Also played are Leyline of Anticipation and Lion's Eye Diamond. Basically throw in the charbelchers and maybe that leyline. With your budget, just add more ramp and make it a day. Maybe more Spoils of the Vault...

Also, I opened a a Bridge from Below from the one pack of Modern Masters I opened. Should I run it? Can I take out a Cabal Therapy for it?

Probably not... However the tokens are exiled by Angel of Glory's Rise and your library is already milled so you lose without the maniac. It is only good for if you have too many Narcomoeba in your hand.

I was also thinking tinder wall, thanks. I'll come back after I test and see if I find anything else good.

Spoils of the Vault is so risky, exiling more than 1 Narcomoeba, and you might as well concede

Thank you for reminding me of that. I will fix that...

I'm fairly new to Magic and a friend recommended it. I also don't want to spend too much money on my first deck. I don't know how much the lower deck costs but I'm hoping it would be under $20. But I didn't see how many lands so could you tell me the amount of lands you recommend and of what kind?

Jhereg2467 says... #22

This deck is for a very expensive competitive format. The lower deck would be more expensive if anything. You should look up mono red Red Deck Wins standard decks, as those are usually the cheapest competitive deck to build.

Jaceblue12 says... #23

ardellian, the point of the deck is that there are no lands. read the description; it tells you how to play the deck

how do you play the cards with no mana?
